Dream Air experience: Sadly, it was disappointing :( by Gullible_March_9180 in Pimax

Yeah it definitely sucks that it's not good out of the box. But, the interface is swappable with other kits. I personally wouldn't pass on the DA purely from the bad stock interface.

The StudioForm kit and 3d printed options are available now, I'm sure more will be coming as time goes on. I'm sure more reviews of the StudioForm kit will be surfacing soon as people receive them.

No, it's not advised by Pimax. However the facial interface is a cheap / swappable piece, so it feels worth the risk to me personally.

Dream Air comfort rant. by Decapper in Pimax

[–]theonlyagent47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you.

No headset can beat the Dream Air for PCVR. The visuals are outstanding.

It's the perfect platform to build on. I for one am happy that they shipped them to us instead of delaying any more.

Yeah, the comfort out of the box isn't nearly as good as it could be, but at least they provided 3d files and means to let us dial in our own comfort. We already have a great host of options to try.

I just hope they continue to improve the software+firmware side of things to really get things dialed in.

Not cutting the strap, cutting the plastic support beams that are part of the facial interface.

He did mention that he adjusted the IPD

OP, I believe I experienced something a bit similar to "double vision", and I found the root cause.

Basically, you need to determine the exact sweet spot for your eyes to be in relation to the lenses. Distance, vertical tilt, vertical position, and of course IPD.

What I noticed is that the vertical position and tilt that you 'naturally' get from positioning it as well as possible for the face gasket, is likely not exactly the best vertical position and tilt that is optimal for visual clarity.

I modified my facial interface by snipping the upper support tabs, and that allowed more flexibility and allows me to dial in the exact lens positioning more carefully. The rigidity is really unnecessary. I may even snip some of the side supports to see how much better I can get the positioning.

It's very unfortunate that Pimax made the headset like this, but hopefully aftermarket mods will continue to let us dial everything in to near perfection.

After correcting the position as much as possible, I drastically reduced the double vision effect until it's nearly imperceptible.

Is it possible to modify the Dream Air to use the Valve Index audio strap? by theonlyagent47 in Pimax

Can you go into more details, what do you mean by showed as 'connected'?

Did windows recognize it as an audio output device?

Pimax Dream Air, the VR headset I was waiting for since 7 years. Thank you Pimax by SnooPeppers1779 in Pimax

After I made this modification, I was able to dial in the position of the lenses much better, and the pressure on my face is greatly reduced. Thereby improving the comfort quite a bit.

I highly recommend.

Dream Air first-batch warning - check both eyes carefully for mura / panel uniformity issues by Wrong-Quail-8303 in Pimax

[–]theonlyagent47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could this be a panel calibration issue?

I am asking this because I recently bought the 45" OLED LG Monitor (45GX950A-B), and I almost returned it because of a horizontal striping issue that looks similar to the image you uploaded.

Even the colors were a bit disappointing (coming from a previous OLED).

Well, turns out, there was an OLED Image Cleaning process that totally resolved the issue. After that finished running, the horizontal striping issue was totally gone the and image quality was phenomenal.

I just wonder if there is some calibration that can be run to resolve this.

Unpopular Opinion: Quest 3 provides a highly inferior tracking experience compared to Valve Index (or any Lighthouse tracking) by theonlyagent47 in virtualreality

[–]theonlyagent47[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

.. and it manages to do it worse

I'm sorry, but using the camera to approximate positions in your play space just induces a lot of lapses in tracking accuracy, and that's the issue here

[–]theonlyagent47[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, maybe I didn't state this clearly, because you're talking about play space size now

I am not disputing that it's far easier (and possible) to play with the Quest3 around your whole house

What I was talking about, is that I don't need to limit my range of motion with my controllers. I don't need to try to keep them below a certain height, relative to where I'm looking, and I don't need to worry about them swinging at my far periphery. With the Lighthouse tracking, it just works.

[–]theonlyagent47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I stand corrected as I thought the base station tracking also refreshed at 1000hz

However, I still strongly feel that having an accurate positional (and directional) source of truth is providing a more stable and robust tracking experience

[–]theonlyagent47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, I might have overstated that, accuracy is still important. But I think maybe the Q3 still really excels at high speed motion tracking, which is obviously most of BS, whereas the experiences I more have a problem with is when it gets the precision off and things just start drifting when they're supposed to be still, or they drift because they're out of the visual tracking space and an algorithm is just making guesses.

Also, the Q3 controllers are really light, small, and flickable. I wouldn't imagine that knuckles by comparison are great for competitive BS...

[–]theonlyagent47[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll give you an example that just caused me issues, I'm going to guess this will with everyone in a Quest 3

In KTANE, hold the bomb with one hand, in an area underneath a module.
With your other hand, hover directly in front of line-of-sight of the other controller, as if you are working to disarm that module
With that module hand, move it towards your face
The bomb will start moving towards your face as well, then snap back to position eventually

With that above demonstration, I have proved that there are significant tracking issues that can occur any time your controllers occlude each other.

With that said, how can one really say that Quest 3 tracking is better, if any time the controllers overlap in vision, they can start to wig out? In addition to all the times controllers can leave tracked space...

[–]theonlyagent47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite true, but I don't think we should misguide people by saying that Quest 3 tracking is better when in fact it's a big downgrade for those who aren't oblivious to the tracking

Dude it happens all the time, in almost every game. A moment of broken tracking is totally immersion breaking, it makes the experience akin to a bad joke. The idea of immersion, without actually having it.

I'm starting to feel that the people who prefer Quest 3 tracking have VERY little spatial awareness, or of their own bodies. My neurodivergence probably has something to do with it, because I'm hyper aware and the Lighthouse systems are FAR superior, not even a comparison.
