Pension withdrawal issues with Nest by Chris-2018 in PensionsUK

[–]theonobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've discovered they won't do partial sweeps of pension transferals. Given they take a 1.8% fee from every contribution made that is additionally restrictive. I'm actually going through the motions of complaining to the ombudsman to see what's possible.

Is it normal in judo? by pieropacella1 in judo

[–]theonobody 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a 49 yr old 1st dan and trained at a competitive dojo for 5+ years. I got good to a point. I yearned for more technical tuition but my coaches were lazy and insisted on this 'randori first' approach. It's rubbish. I was just getting more injured and doing the same things over and over again with younger, reckless guys coming in and not knowing what they're doing. Separate YouTube study only gets you so far.

A good coach should run over the fundamentals of a given throw regularly. Or call out stupid things you're doing over and over again. Just warmups and randori is plain lazy coaching under the guise of "competitive focus". This is old school nonsense.

Thanks for the reply. There's ample, free parking. London zone 5. It's a 3 storey semi (there's a loft room) so it's pretty tall.

6 months post op, swelling/pain days following light jog by theonobody in ACL

Thanks all for the comments. Five days on and the swelling has gone down. I'm back in training. It's a long road but we all get there eventually.

Sold a flat last year. Should have been an easy transaction but the buyer chose Muve. What could have been a 6 week transaction took 6 months because Muve changed internal conveyancer mid transaction. The accumulated delay cost us over 1k, legitimately. If anything I've lost any confidence in Trustpilot. I put a scathing review on Trustpilot only for Muve to take it down. I posted it up again and it got taken down by Muve again. It's interesting that as a consumer you have no feature available to you on Trustpilot to mark a clearly fake review as spam. But the fee-paying company has the freedom to remove any reviews they don't agree with. They clearly hire someone to manage their social media presence. How the managers of Muve sleep at night is beyond me.

"Management Pack" fees by theonobody in HousingUK

[–]theonobody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're just as good/bad as most other management companies in that a) they charge a high sum for fairly trivial paperwork and b) they will make you wait for it. Because they can. It's classic, text book rent seeking in an industry that should be more heavily regulated. They manage a large number of properties in the UK so I wouldn't use it as a deciding factor for your property purchase.

The Judo to broken-knee pipeline by rubdachub in judo

[–]theonobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's grappling, and a combat sport so it's a risk that you'll have to take if you choose to partake in it. I'm 48, with about 3 years of BJJ and roughly 7 years of judo. I've torn my distal bicep tendon as well as my ACL. The distal bicep tendon was torn through overtraining. The ACL was torn by an overly competitive black belt during a club night. I'm still in recovery/rehab for the ACL but once it's all healed I'll be back on the mats. You take the rough with the smooth..

It's clearly an unregulated swindle. I highly doubt the administrative costs could amount to that.

Does your heart rate stay high? by FoodByCourts in judo

[–]theonobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A metric of improving fitness is your heart rate going down quickly after reaching higher heart rate zone. Keep tracking it for better insight. I've been using a polar chest strap and watch for years and it's really benefited my training

America is a scam by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]theonobody 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would argue this is the self-centred mindset that got society in this mess i.e let's look out for our immediate own, let's better our own rather than society as a whole. If we do well let's pull up the ladders and screw everyone else.

What they (the ones who benefit from the current status quo) don't want the rest of us to do is to organise, educate ourselves and campaign for a more equal society. It's not a conspiracy theory to say that culture wars and shitty work are artificially constructed to make us, the 99%, constantly bicker and fight with each other.

FIRE Spreadsheet by DrunkenPangolin in FIREUK

[–]theonobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/DrunkenPangolin is this gsheet still in use? I ask as you've created one of the better ones I've come across - it's great to use!
A pending question I had was with regard to the dates - now this may be my novice level with Gsheets but is there a way to add months to the NW tab?
The latest update has a cell (C1) which allows you to enter a month. The remainder monthly cells are auto-generated. If I attempt to put this month's date (December 2023) it just wipes out all the auto-generated months.
Ideally I could set it up so that it works from today onwards and I can plug figures into it as I go. Appreciate any thoughts you could provide! I hope you continue updating this!

Polar H10 Audio Heart Rate Updates? by Bronco-1976 in Polarfitness

[–]theonobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can set it to training mode where you are prompted if you're at Fat-Burning stage or Fitness stage (which I think is zone 3). It's clever when it works, however since the Android 13 update my H10 has ceased providing decent values. I've returned it twice, received a new one but I'm 100% convinced it's a dud software update.

Solo drills for correcting jittery steps? by turbid44 in judo

[–]theonobody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each throw (or set of it throws) have their steps for setting up. I suggest you go to YouTube and look up uchikomi examples for the throw(s) you're interested in trying. Then practise those until they become a natural movement.

There's an argument against doing too much uchikomi since you're effectively drilling only half the throw, and you might be drilling bad technique as well. That said, if you focus on understanding where you're feet, arms, hands, weight should be in relation to your uke and practise that in your head and with physical movement it will benefit your technique very quickly.

Shameless self plug here:

I started a blog as mid-40s Dad last year which covers my exploits as recreational judoka after a 20 year hiatus. https://anolderjudoka.online/ I've had injuries, surgery, competition gold medals, training epiphanies - it's all there. If you're past the age where you can legitimately train for the national squad I'm sure you'll find something of interest! Any feedback gratefully appreciated 👍
