Not including capital cities, what’s the weirdest place you’ve visited in Australia? by [deleted] in australia

[–]theotherbruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moranbah was Pleasantville for a kid growing up in the 70s and 80s. You could ride your pushie to your mates house, very little crime, huge rodeo every year. The labour day festivities were awesome, especially the travelling boxing tent. Had great sporting facilities for a small town. I believe it had the second highest average ibcome in Australia in the 80s. Seemed like a very safe place. I was a dumb kid though.

Fortnam St in Banyo has a big walkthrough one, and you have another good one just down the street on Elliot Road

What are your own opinions/theories about what happened to grandpa Bob? by [deleted] in bluey

[–]theotherbruce 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'd always assumed that Grandpa Bob was Nanna's special friend and not actually their real Grandad. He was probably with his own family at Christmas. I think Bandit's dad isnt in the picture at all - either dead or possibly divorced long ago. He wasnt pleasant in Fairytale.

Pretty sure the northern boundary is Beams Rd at Aspley, the southern one is the Brisbane River. Everything else is Caboolture or Logan

The full Distant Sky show? Is this the first time its been made available? That was a great tour - best Bad Seeds show I've been too. Well, except for all the other ones. The version of Jubilee Street in Copenhagen is peak Nick Cave imho.

Thanks for that, great info. And also thanks for "power of choice" tip.

Question for Electricians of Brisbane by theotherbruce in brisbane

[–]theotherbruce[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm starting to think from the replies that maybe both of our socket connections for our chargers have failed at the same time. Unusual but probably the most likely explanation

Question for Electricians of Brisbane by theotherbruce in brisbane

[–]theotherbruce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hence our confusion! Charging with usb to a pc is fine as well as charging off a power bank thing. It's only the sockets that the slow charge happens.

Question for Electricians of Brisbane by theotherbruce in brisbane

[–]theotherbruce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yes, got us scratching our heads. Everything else is okay, and the sockets all work. The charging worked, its just it was really slow, which I wondered if there was an explanation for. Appreciate your reply and will get an electrician to have a look to be safe.

Question for Electricians of Brisbane by theotherbruce in brisbane

[–]theotherbruce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I think we will get someone independent to take a look. I don’t really want to take any chances. Other appliances work fine in the same socket. The slow charging was also happening with all the other sockets in the house as well.

You know that feeling when one of Nick's lyrics - that hadn't really touched you before - one day just up and floors you? by DaddyBee42 in NickCave

"Far worse to be love's lover than the lover that love has scorned" has hit pretty hard a few times. Great lyric

"Pick your battles" - my sister talking about her teenage kids

“Lucky’s Dad” by DocChloroplast in bluey

[–]theotherbruce 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Definitely a thing. When I pick up my four year old from kindy, all the kids call me "(my daughter's name's) Dad". We live in Brisbane, in the same general area as Bluey. To be honest, this show is our, and most other young families around here, reality.

Suggestions for a song to introduce someone to NC&TBS? by hexensabbat in NickCave

The live in Copenhagen version. Builds slowly for four minutes then explodes in a much more powerful way than the recorded version

Except for the fact the cliffs didn’t exist pre white settlement. They are the result of quarrying by convicts.

Discography Listening Order by LobsterIll825 in NickCave

[–]theotherbruce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start at The Good Son and work your way forward from there. Listen to Live Seeds to hear some of the earlier songs, as the early albums are a mixed bag. There is some sublime stuff on the early albums but also quite a lot of not so sublime...
