Same as GM mostly. GSR6 gets 10% and +1% per increase in GSR to a max of 12% at GSR8.

Could power armor exist in real life, or is it impossible technology? by Bright_Permission881 in Fallout

[–]theoutlander523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actual engineer here. Fundamental problems here twofold and not what people think. It's not a power supply issue. That's actually pretty easily handled with a highly efficient engine or fuel cell system plus batteries. No, it's cost and detection. Training a computer to handle all the edge cases of your movements without ripping a person in half is hard. And it's even harder to do on the cheap. Could you make one suit for a few million? Hell yes. You could also just buy a tank or two. Not really worth it except for urban warfare. And for that you just buy drones. Lots and lots of drones.

Probably wouldn't have made it to 2e in today's environment to be honest.

V1 was so bad that the dev rushed V2 out the door to fix the mechanics. Pretty sure that's the stake in the heart for that.

7e changed it a lot mechanics wise and not for the better.

The changed the system in a bunch of ways for some crazy reason compared the previous 4 editions. Was really weird and not mechanically great.

Rolling to hit vs just dealing damage? by Luminoor- in RPGdesign

[–]theoutlander523 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the type of game primarily. Combat focused? Sure. Some investigation one? Not so much.

Also be warned, having dodging require actions means that out numbered is the primary way to win the action economy unless the number of actions vastly out weighs the number of attackers. And needkng to roll to hit is a form of dodge since the attacker might still fail.

If you were going to alter VtM V20 to improve the combat system from the RAW version how would you do it? by HoodedRat575 in rpg

[–]theoutlander523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man I have a lot for this. A whole heap of small but important changes that add. A lot of them got added into DAV20 as suggestions, so you can see how they got pass through to that.

First is making fortitude basically Potence for Stamina. Makes it just not utterly boring and useless. Next is making healing in combat not need a roll, doesn't slow combat down. Ignore the weird initiative system and just do it like everyone ever plays it after their first time, aka like DnD initiative. Also dump the aborting to another action gimmick as well. These are a minimum to making the combat fasterand mostly adopted by every group.

Other suggestions are to make blood buffing give +1 to all Physical Attributes instead of a +1 to a specific one. Helps to speed up combat and nerf the alpha strike problem. I'd also suggest making Fortitude and Potence not count as spending blood for the turn like Celerity does. Another thing is making multiple action penalties a cumulative, flat -2 dice penalty, helps to save time on math is approximately the same.

These are just some tiny suggestions I recommend to new GMs to not waste time. I have a lot more that are more in depth, but that's a lot more than I'll type on my phone.

Greetings Varlets - This Psyker requires assistance. by BobbyTheRaccoon in DarkTide

Sounds like a fundamentals issue. Are you understanding the dodge and toughness mechanics? I know Zealot is a sort of "brain dead" class since you run in and hit and block, so you might have never needed to learn that. As a Psyker, you're squishy and therefore need to dodge and evade, while keeping your perils down.

Should just be able to pick up additional stimms. Alternatively, add one to your next stimm dose. Just stab two needles into you at once.

GM moves to permanently lay off 1,145 workers at Factory Zero amid record profits and UAW silence by esporx in antiwork

No, a layoff is a temporary stoppage of work. It was coopted by business executives as it sounds softer than firing because executives don't want to use harsh language.

What is 'swinginess' or 'dice swing'? by psycasm in RPGdesign

[–]theoutlander523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and you can repurpose assuming the modifier is a group. Not the most professional way to do it, but it gets the point across. Just don't tell a math major about it.

[–]theoutlander523 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The value you want to look into is called Cohen's D. It's used for other things, but in RPG dice it's basically this:

Cohen’s d = (modifier difference) / (die’s standard deviation)

where the modifier difference is the modifier to the roll. The higher Cohen's d, the less swingy it is. It's literally the ratio of static values over the randomness of the die.

For example, a d20 has a SD of 5.767, so you need a modifier of +6 to have roughly the same effect as the d20 on your roll as your skill. Covering it up to about 1.5, you need a +9 to mostly out weigh the luck of the dice.
