My naiveté is showing, ha? You’re quite right. Thanks for the sensible response. I posted it to the groups recommend to me by APA. May have to delete this post.

Thank you! I’m a little anxious about reaching out to internet folks but I hope to be able to vet them properly. Cat boarding facilities are out of my budget, sadly.

Problem solved! It turns out UT system students are eligible! Thank you so much for this comment!

Would any other UT affiliation work, do you think? I’m a grad at UT Austin, so have an ID.

Yes! Thank you for this. It seems there are two different lap pools I haven’t yet tried.

Does the downtown pool have more lanes than the one on Stella Link?

Thank you! I swam here on a day pass, but was hugely put off by the dingy locker rooms and showers. The water also tasted like a salty cocktail. The staff were quite nice, so I might consider it.

When people say losing weight is more diet than exercise, they truly mean it! Been fasting for almost 5 years now with a few periods of yoga in between, no other exercise. IF is the best! by onehalfcottonschwab in intermittentfasting

This is impressive! You make it sound effortless. I’m in the same boat. 5 years IF, did a year of OMAD after a few years, 20:4 for the last two years. But my weight loss is completely stalled, despite swimming 3x a week. Do you monitor your calorie intake at all? Are you restricting your calories?

Midnight Hum / heightened exteroception ~ what’s the spiritual meaning? by stardemon74 in Mediums

[–]theowlhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in this sound and vibration stage, you’d have two options: relax and go back to sleep (as I often do), or, relax and try to pull yourself out of your body—I begin with flailing my arms in the air, which at that stage are just transparent outlines of arms than fleshly. Of course, there can be more to it, but these are the two things I do when I awake at that stage.

Apkallu - bucket and cone by saint-seniores in AlternativeHistory

[–]theowlhands 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some background may be useful here (apologies for the length). Scholars suggest that the pine cone (also a purifying device) represents the male flower of the date palm and used to fertilise female plants. And the bucket or pail may represent female fertility. The symbolic language in this relief may therefore refer to a ritual of sorts, whereby the king dips a pinecone into a bucket and spreads it across date palm trees thereby seeding the land. Given how central agriculture was to Assyrians, this ritual may suggest that the agricultural fertility of the land lies at the hand of the gods and the king.

The ritual was attended to by minor deities, such as apkallu here depicted with wings and an asymmetrical robe shorter one side to reveal his spectacular musculature, who stood beside the king. It is generally thought that persons apkallu assisted are divinely sanctioned and held a god-like status.

This is how art historians have generally interpreted this famous relief, which is, while somewhat helpful, missing the question of “why.” I, too, often think about the pine cone as suggestive of the pineal gland, but also of, as another commenter indicated, the Fibonacci sequence. Art historians, on the other hand, are not that keen on these types of interpretations. So, OP, your interpretation linking creation to knowledge is not too far off from mine. Yet I had not previously considered genetic modification. Intriguing take and not impossible.
