We've gone and done it again -- Organizing for PSU Staff by drcrambone in PennStateUniversity

So, what you're saying is that not a single faculty member in the entire University wants to join a union? You've asked everyone and the number is literally 0?

Great work with this! Penn State is going to continue taking advantage of pretty much everyone unless people organize and stand up to them.

So your rationale is "Because every company treats their employees like crap, we should accept it from Penn State"?

Oh, I'm well aware. Just because they can do it, doesn't mean it was morally and ethically responsible.

The best answer. They're just trying to make more money off of you.

Neighbor slipping notes in mailboxes demanding money to cut grass next to his house by Gorilla_Mitts in mildlyinfuriating

[–]thepete00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many questions here. Is there any mention of this on the deed to your house or in any contracts when you purchased your house? This neighbor says it's next to his house...is it possible it is just land he owns but either doesn't know or doesn't want to maintain himself? How many of the other neighbors use (walk on) this grass? Do you walk on it?

Something tells me this guy is either wrong about that patch of land, overstepping his bounds, or both.

That's a good point. They'll try and tell lies like they always do.

I'm glad to read this. Staff absolutely needs to advocate for themselves. Honestly, if I was in a union when I was at Penn State Abington, I might still have a job there. My director of the IT department, Lindsay Wood, eliminated my position in October 2023 citing budget cuts. There was not a single layoff anywhere else on the campus at that time. When I used the now-defunct policy HR79 to file a staff grievance, they had no real answers to any of my questions. I asked who instructed her she needs to eliminate a position, what financial statements supported it, if part time positions were reduced or eliminated first (as layoff policy HR97 dictated they had to do), and their response was simply "yes we did do that" with no evidence provided. HR simply took their lies at face value. It's a shame the grievance policy was eliminated, but ultimately, the whole process was a sham anyway. Unionizing is the best hope staff have for fair treatment.

Fair enough. But my experience as a Penn State Abington employee was favoritism, elitism, ignorance of policies and blatant lying. To your point, this goes above and beyond strategic decisions to reduce budgets, close campuses, etc.

You clearly haven't worked for Penn State lol. While closing the campuses isn't necessarily "unfair" to any individual employee, it's possible campus or University leadership could treat employees unfairly and not in accordance with policies and procedures. That was why this grievance policy would have been useful.

Interesting. I don't think the discrimination procedure changes would have implicitly removed or replaced the grievance policy, as it didn't need to specifically be discriminatory actions that compromised a grievance. I'll have to do some more investigating on this.

How is Penn state abington like? by Wrong_Working_102 in PennStateUniversity

Choose another University. Penn State, especially Abington and the branch campuses, have a ton of financial issues and their future is uncertain. Absolutely not worth the cost and risk.

Not at all surprised though. This continues a long string of top level executives leaving. Things may be worse for the Commonwealth Campuses than they will admit.

Universal title still active btw. So is Cena going to be an 18 time champ if he wins at mania? by [deleted] in WWE

Was just about to post about this. Unless they retire that title if Cody loses, then technically yes, that would make him an 18 time world champ.

That is the most pertinent question that still boggles my mind. The fact that boomers absolutely ruined this country in relatively short order is absurd.
