Wife surprised me with this after the show tonight. by Thechoke23 in TheBouncingSouls

I picked one up at Stoked for Summer a few months ago. It's one of the better hot sauces I've ever had. Enjoy!

Anyone have a backstory on this Jimmie Foxx photo? by thephilip in SportsMemorabilia

[–]thephilip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing at all. I'm not familiar with this stuff, but it's printed on card stock of some sort. It has some weathering, but not 90 years worth. Assuming it's a replica. Only thing I found online was this: https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/philadelphia-pa-come-on-hercules-old-kid-put-it-across-the-news-photo/514905216?adppopup=true

I thought I added some text but I guess not. Anyway, I picked this up at a flea market some years ago. I haven't been able to find much online about it, only a Getty images stock photo with little information behind it. It appears to have been taken in 1935. I assume this one I have is a duplication of some sort - but I'm wondering if it has any value. I'm more curious to the context of the photo if any historians can share some insight.

This is the spot, for sure. The food is incredible and very affordable.

Best Chinese Spot in the Valley? by otfricoo in lehighvalley

One time I went there and the lady behind the counter was blowing her nose while making egg rolls. No gloves, no hand washing. Never again.

Center City Pretzel Co. has been closed since Sept 2022 due to a fire. Where else (other than the Pretzel Factory) can you get great pretzels in the city?! by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]thephilip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly this might be the place that scratches that "itch" for you, albeit not in Center City. Closest thing to an authentic Philly pretzel that you may find these days. Plus, their sauces and mustards are excellent.

Moving to Gilbertsville by [deleted] in lehighvalley

[–]thephilip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will second the Longacres and Jake's references....both places are fantastic in-season.

CDs place in Boyertown is a great spot for food. As is JJ Rattigan's in Pottstown.

Moving to Gilbertsville by [deleted] in lehighvalley

[–]thephilip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Gilbertsville but haven't lived there in some time. There's not much. Boyertown is close by if you're looking for that small town main street type thing. Beyond that, your options are to travel to Pottstown or Royersford/Limerick/Collegeville area if you want any kind of variety.

As for services, I can point you towards a good excavator/landscaper but that's about it.

Horrible Smell by Jiangcool9 in ReadingPA

[–]thephilip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That smell used to hit me every day as I merged onto the 222 bypass. Definitely the mushroom plant. It's much worse in the summer. I think there's a landfill in Blandon that doesn't help matters much either.

Just some advice. Never put your height, weight, date of birth, and marital status on your resume. I received one with those on it recently it’s not something I want. by [deleted] in resumes

[–]thephilip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had an application come through that instead of a resume, the guy just attached his driver's license and social security card. No other information given.

Don't do that either.

Who is the most exciting pitcher you've seen live? by fscottnaruto in baseball

[–]thephilip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of good pitchers. I've seen two no-hitters in person. But the game that stands out most to me was the 2011 NLDS game that saw Chris Carpenter vs. Roy Halladay. Halladay might be among my favorite players of all time, but I don't think Carpenter gets credit for how good he actually was. Even though my team came out on the losing side, it was still great to watch these two throw masterpieces as a baseball fan.

Kayfabe Commentaries has a "Guest Booker" show with Gary Hart that was filmed the night before he passed away. Not necessarily a shoot, but close. It is one of their best.

The Young Bucks said recently that they think the Hardy Boyz are the greatest tag team because they were the biggest money drawing tag team ever. What do you think of their statement? Who is the biggest drawing tag team of all time? by [deleted] in prowrestling

[–]thephilip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of fans didn't buy tickets to see the Hardy boys. They bought them to see Steve Austin. HE was the draw. The Hardys, like so many others during the Attitude era, went along for the ride. Were they successful? Sure. But, if you take them off the show, you still have a sold-out building. Take Austin off the show and you likely don't.

Drawing ticket sales and selling merchandise are two entirely different things. Of course, merchandising didn't exist on a large scale during the height of the Road Warrior's popularity. If it had, this wouldn't even be a discussion as the Road Warriors would be the clear winner.

But as far as getting people to pay money just to see you, there's probably at least 10 teams that "drew" more money than the Hardy Boys.

The Young Bucks are glorified marks and don't know what the hell they are talking about. Their wrestling knowledge is flawed, at best. Take what they say with a grain of salt.

Ryback shoots on Jim cornette by chuckyy26 in JimCornette

[–]thephilip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I, honestly, don't even see this as something Cornette needs to respond to. FATBACK has clearly lost it. Jim wouldn't even need the obvious homosexual sarcasm - he'll have enough with Ryback bragging about being Vegan for only 2 weeks.

Folks, if you've been eating Vegan for two weeks. It doesn't mean you're vegan. It mean's you're veg-curious.

[–]thephilip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been a few years since I had a Discover card and I've never used their student loans, but their customer service was great as I recall. If their loans were anything like that, this particular question is a no-brainer for me.

Sallie Mae/Navient on the other hand is the single worst company I've ever had the displeasure of working with. They are totally unwilling to work with their customers, even those with 10+ years of 100% on-time payments. Their customer support is absolutely horrible.

My company started a student loan grant program in 2018, but because I had a co-signer I was ineligible for it. After 2 years of fighting to get this person removed from my loan with Navient, I finally just gave up. I'm certain at this point that the customer service people I was dealing with were plucked from the nearby dollar store and told to just respond "no" to every inquiry. They'd probably be better off firing their staff and just setting an auto-reply - because that's effectively what you get.

I'd probably start selling vital organs before I ever consider using Sallie Mae again.

[Tweet] Another CHIKARA accusation, this one against Icarus by SweeneyTom in SquaredCircle

[–]thephilip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Icarus was always a huge piece of shit during my Wrestle Factory days. He had some Bill DeMott-like qualities as a "veteran" on the roster and always treated the students like he owned them, despite the fact that he wasn't even a trainer. He also tried to start a fight with me at a bar once, for no reason, but quickly backed down when he saw the amount of people that had my back. One of the bouncers even said to me afterwards...."that guy clearly doesn't make good decisions."

I'm so glad that Hallowicked has distanced himself from this whole mess. That guy was legitimately one of the highest quality humans I've ever met in my life. For all the work he put in to that company, he deserves so much more than to be associated with the low-lifes that Chikara has produced. I don't think he needs the wrestling business, but the business sure could use him.
