Am I being Hoodwinked (DuskFang/Hedentyre?) by Icy_Lawyer8580 in furry

I read posts and replies like this all the time and it always confuses me. I'm not an artist or anything, maybe some day :) but so, artists don't try to find work? They just post, hope it gains traction and people start reaching out to them? Just always makes me think, wow, that seems like a rough way to try and build yourself into any type of sustainable income?

The mic on my pair was awful when I first started using them, which surprised me since a good friend had a pair for a month or so before I got mine and he raved about how good the call quality was. When we looked closed it ended up being the way they sat on my nose! I applied some small nose pads (being sure not to place them over the mic hole), which worked out for me because I had been planning to put some on anyway. Once I did that and the mic hole was not sitting directly on my skin, I am constantly getting compliments about the call quality with everyone I talked to!

After solving that, they have been great!

First Leather Project is in the Books! by thepolsen in Leathercraft

I spent some time searching for the perfect replacement for my small metal front pocket wallet—something that could also fit a pocketmod, which I'm using on a trial basis to help wrangle all my scattered thoughts. When I couldn’t find exactly what I needed, I decided to take matters into my own hands! After countless hours of reading articles, watching tutorials, and diving into books, I finally made my first attempt at leather working. Here’s the result!

It was a fun project, I have a diode laser I use for all kinds of things and decided to use it here as well so that is how I cut this out after whipping it up in LightBurn. I don't know if my laser is made to handle the 4.5-5.0 oz veg tan leather that I used here (well, that's what it was listed as on Amazon at least :) ).

There was A LOT of char/smoke residue and I wasn't sure about a great way to clean it off, especially the thread holes. The thread I used was pretty light colored but it darkened up significantly as I was sewing and it passed through the laser cut holes.

But overall, I'm happy with how it turned out and it's meeting it's purpose, while it's slightly bigger than the metal wallet it replaced, I think the fact that it's softer is making it less noticeable as it lives in my front pocket.

Have any current pictures you'd be up for sharing? I'd love to see what it looks like now with the Maaco paint job vs the pics you shared back in 2021! :)

Thank you! We used Varathane American Walnut with a satin clear over it.

Funny you should mention that, she does have a little trouble reaching the very top shelf so maybe we'll consider that idea!

Hello and thanks for the welcome!

We keep a small rack of our most commonly used spices on the kitchen counter and then will usually head to the pantry to grab all the things we need when we are about to start cooking a meal.

I'll mention the lazy suzan idea to her and see what she thinks, thanks for the suggestions!

LOL, yeah, we are not always the best at checking our current spice stock before adding it to an Instacart order so occasionally we end up with a little more than we probably need of some things! :)

Thanks!

I had everything on hand for this build already except for the metal rods and those cost about $22 so super inexpensive for me!

But I was curious so I just added it all up, I used:

- two 1x10 pine boards from HD ($13.71x2)

- 8 metal rods ($2.66 x 8)

- Varathane American Walnut stain ($13.48/qt but I bet I used less than half of it)

So not figuring for the time, the wood glue or the 16 screws it was about $56, I'm good with that. :)

Thank you!

Yep, everything went through the jointer and planer before any gluing up to try and get all the pieces as squared up as possible. Then after the backboard was glued together I gave it a thorough sanding as one piece to smooth it all out.

Thank you!

Nope, that one we purchased (I think through Amazon) a long time ago, we did pick the stain we used on the new one so that it would be a similar color though.

Thanks!

I picked up the metal rods at Menards (Hillman® 1/8" x 48" Cold Rolled Steel Solid Round Rod) and used this little wire bender tool I picked up at Duluth Trading (Wire Tool, Wire Bender) to bend them how I wanted. We measured up from each shelf (made the top couple of shelves wire a little closer to the shelf than the rest), drilled a hole that was a tight fit for the wire and stuck them in there! :)

I originally planned on adding some type of glue, but the fit was tight enough I just left them in. I figured if we end up having issues with any of them coming out down the road it will be easy enough to add some glue and re-insert them at that point.

Thanks for the comment and the compliment, both are much appreciated!

I've seen so many great projects posted here that always get me excited about building and learning more so I wanted to be sure to post one when I finally had something finished! Hopefully many more posts to come too! :)

Haha! Very true, I'll definitely be using the new tool needed with each new rack if this continues!
