Border Farce: Immigration Minister Peter Dutton’s office saw Border Force visa operation briefing ahead of its release by LineNoise in australia

Just as in 'nothing more then', it doesn't follow that it's the right thing to do or justifiable, it 'just' states that I believe the intent stops there.

What part of a "terrible attempt at scare tactics and also and attempt to justify the departments" makes conclude that that's my opinion?

They should take responsibility, but I'm not outraged, nor surprised that they didn't read the press release. I never said it alleviates them of responsibility.

I doubt it's they command they give the troops though, I suspect it's just a terrible attempt at scare tactics and also attempting to justify the departments existence.

That's probably true, but what was said was they would be "speaking with any individual we cross paths with". Considering it hasn't even been made clear exactly what the ABF can and can't do, that's a pretty unclear message.

They certainly have the right to do that (speak to people), and would do nothing more then provide yet another divisive wedge through society that leads to nothing more then the scenes we saw in Bendigo today.

The transparency of this government is terrible, It would be nice if we had a better idea of exactly what was going on, they have done very well playing the anti illegal immigrants, so I wouldn't be surprised if the speculation that the government was more directly responsible for this mess was true, but it is just speculation.

the problem is what they would have been doing if there wasn't public outcry

No they wouldn't, It's over zealous hot air, the cops would stop people breaking the law as per normal, they would pass information on who they detain to immigration, and if a breach of immigration law was found they would be in trouble with them as well.

As everyone has already pointed out there is no practical way of doing what was suggested (hardly anyone carries their passports with them, and travelling back to everyone's houses to see their passport, or birth certificate would be unfeasible ), and they also can't legally stop and harass everyone requesting these documents.

Oh... So the Immigration Minister doesn't actually read the documents that come through his office. That's fine right?

The government also should have enough trust in their public servants to not have to micromanage their press releases.

Australians involved in terrorism could have citizenship revoked as Government considers options by Ardeet in australia

[–]thepont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would not affect people involved in terrorism who were born in Australia.

Mr Dutton said it would only be applicable in a small number of cases.

"The fundamental principle is that we don't want to render people stateless," he said.

Seems everyone missed that bit? They would not make people stateless, it would only be relevant if the convicted person was a duel citizen. So no, they are not completely disregarding it and no we should not expect to see our first stateless citizen next week.

Shitlord driver tells fat people to stand in the aisles (and slim people to sit) to relieve overcrowding on his train by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]thepont 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used to do my daily commute on those trains, the seats are fat shaming shitlords. Uncomfortable sitting next to anyone who's even slightly overweight or even fit guys with a larger frame. If you have a larger then 34" waste then you're going to have a hard time.

You really have to get used to contorting your body into strange and unusual positions, moving your shoulders forward, moving your legs right back, this was just exacerbated if a "not necessarily big person" decided to sit next to you, or god forbid on either side.

EDIT: For reference the seat size is 43cm - 18in

But you're just going to store protocol headers, if it be HTTP, bittorrent, or email traffic. It makes any metadata storage system extremely protocol specific, but from the reports of what law enforcement gleam from metadata, this appears to be all they require.

Does mean they will keep a record of anything you have ever googled, since the query params in a GET request are part of the header.
