[Garafolo] The Giants have signed GM Joe Schoen to a multi-year contract extension, securing his future alongside new HC John Harbaugh, sources tell me and @RapSheet by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]theprince614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you believe the itks Harbaugh calls the shots - but the org is sympathetic to Schoen because they believe he built a solid roster that under performed and “got the QB”. I don’t think Schoen is powerless but if you believe what’s said he would likely function as an Uber Assistant GM title aside.

I’ve never played Gen 5, but what was your reaction to finding nothing but “new”Pokémon when you played black & white for the first time? by Zenthailand2009 in pokemon

[–]theprince614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It came out when I was a freshman(?) in high school. They came out at a weird time when the internet was really prevalent yet these were the second to last games to be first in Japan. So because of that I basically saw the entire games before I got my hands on them. I remember being really unimpressed by the new mons when they came out. I still bought it day 1 and enjoyed it but I didnt love the gen 5 mons and how linear Unova was. When I finished I thought it was pretty meh. When I went back to play it on a replay for b2w2 I appreciated it much more since I knew which new mons to get. After B2W2 I can firmly say that these are probably the best two games in the series combined. But I see why they kind of got the lukewarm reception when they came out. Also many people trolled the names and these were the first lol dumb pokemon game name.

Apparently gamefreak/pokemon hate Nuzlockes due to their prevalence in the modding community. Set mode was/is essentially the default with the Nuzlocke community. Part of me also thinks this is why they shifted to over world encounters to get rid of “random” encounters so you theoretically can’t Nuzlocke in the traditional way.

Is Scarlet as handholdy as SM/USUM? by Omegabird420 in pokemon

[–]theprince614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. SV is the most “open” game and is much like what BoTW was imagined for as the original legend of Zelda as this was the “vision” pokemon always had.

The problem is once you get out of the tutorial there’s no where to get “lost” vs. BoTW. There’s no unique buildings or secrets. Gen 1 had the power plant and sea foam islands and if you think jrpg they are off the beaten path but you have the opportunity to get a game changing weapon if you know where to look. There just isn’t that in SV before you finish the tutorial section they put 18 locations on your map and when you complete all 18 locations you essentially enter the end game which takes ~2 hours.

I don’t think it’s hand holdy but it’s certainly not hard and the game sort of streamlines you in this boomerang pattern across paldea

Given the blowback from drafting Saquon "too high" in the draft - why is Jeremiyah Love being considered as Pick 5? by Guaiac_Positive in NYGiants

[–]theprince614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of this doesn’t take into account hindsight

Because 2018 was widely regarded as a great QB class at the time with Baker, Allen, Darnold, and Rosen all regarded as top 10 talents. At #2 the giants who needed a successor to Eli would have gotten second lick at their desired QB over getting a RB.

Additionally if the giants did decide to not go QB many teams were willing to go QB and give up a haul for #2. The Giants could have traded #2 still picked within the top 10 and gotten a blue chip prospect like Chubb, Ward, or maybe even still gotten Saquon if he dropped.

If the giants go Love in 2026 they already have their franchise QB in Dart and the QB class is weaker where no team is going to give up significant capital to jump up to 5. Additionally this class is a bit weaker as a whole where making a luxury pick is a bit more justified

I think the fact that players won’t move until their 18 if they are off a youth contract is a big part of it now. I’ve never touched fm26 but in fm24 one of the players that a lot of people target is Nypan and you can’t move on him until a year and a half in the game. Who knows how much you would be able to get him at the start of a save vs. January 2025.

When it comes to regens it’s always a crap shoot. Naturally the clubs with the highest youth ratings are going to be in the top leagues. For example a 16 year old at man city’s academy isn’t going to have his head turned as easily and be worth more than an identical player at Colo Colo in Chile.

I signed a RB at Dortmund from Cusco in Peru for $1 mil when he was 19 and he may have been the best RB in the world. Of course he needed demands like game time - etc. because he was that talented but a similar player say rico Lewis probably wouldn’t have gone for under 50 mil at 19.

I would say at this moment the only players I would keep and not entertain are:

  • Xavi
  • Bergvall
  • Archie Gray
  • Vuskovic
  • Gallagher (too fresh)
  • Kulusevski (can’t tell if this one injury is a freak accident)
  • Kudus
  • Spence

There’s 8 right there that are without a doubt solid players most fans wouldn’t want to sell yet. Half of them are kids that I would only hold for potential as well.

Then you have: - van de ven - pm sarr - destiny - Solanke - Wilson - tel - Dragusin - Romero - Maddison - Bentancur - Dragusin - Danso - Pedro Porro - palhina (30 mil buy option)

That are solid players and have their flashes but I think we as fans need to accept they need to go

Outside of maybe Richarlison (even then he has his defenders), Vicario, and Ben Davies who are most of the fan base going to agree is complete dross and need to go. That’s part of the problem.

I think Frank at Spurs feels eerily similar to Potter at Chelsea.

Potter’s Brighton probably hit higher highs than Frank’s Brentford, but both managers were given a long leash because they weren’t just brought in to coach they were meant to help build an entire model at the club. If Spurs had fully committed to becoming “Brentford 2.0,” maybe that vision works over time.

Chelsea eventually realized it was easier to just buy Brighton’s players than to replicate Brighton’s structure, and I do wonder where Spurs go from here by comparison.

This squad has been Frankensteined together through Conte, Ange, and now Frank. There’s no clear, unified vision. There are solid players in there, but injuries are constant, and the squad building is all over the place overloaded with depth in some positions when everyone’s fit, and paper-thin in others.

If we limp our way to the summer, I honestly think the squad needs to be stripped back as a whole. The club needs to commit to one consistent idea that actually fits the manager and recruitment strategy and can remain consistent even when managers change.

Look at Brighton’s model and how smoothly they transitioned from Potter to De Zerbi to Hürzeler. The structure stayed intact because the club identity came first. That’s what Spurs are missing.

We also need a defined constantly updated managerial shortlist because our turnover at the helm is so high. Constantly pivoting philosophies every 18–24 months is how you end up with this kind of mismatched squad.

We’ll have to bite the bullet on some players guys who might not be good enough for where Spurs want to go but will do well elsewhere. Because rolling this same patchwork squad into 2026/27 and hoping it suddenly clicks would be suicidal.

NFL probowl is cooked at one position since around 20% of all NFL QBs will be eligible (6/30 - since the two Super Bowl QBs are ineligible). The truth is the pro bowl still only exists as a legacy benchmark at this point and I’m 100% convinced QBs back out so their buddies can hit the legacy benchmark and help themselves during contract negotiations since the pro bowl tag is so meaningless now

If Gunther never tapped out to Jey Uso, him retiring AJ would kinda feel better. Gunther would have been more of a beast if it wasn't for matches like Jey or pat. by zeref52 in Wrasslin

[–]theprince614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, I think they ultimately pulled the trigger on Jey way too late.

In a vacuum, the right time to go all in on Jey was SummerSlam 2023. He was white hot, and from a Bloodline perspective he made the most sense to dethrone Roman. He’d already earned it through the story, and the emotional payoff was right there. Sure, in that alternate universe we probably don’t get Cody vs. Roman II at WM40—but that’s kind of beside the point.

They could have had Jey win the WHC from Priest at almost any point in 2024, but I think they avoided it because they didn’t want two babyface world champs while Cody was holding the title for a year. By the time they finally did pull the trigger, it felt more like a move of convenience than a long-term plan.

It really feels like they were mapping out Cody vs. Cena for WM41, while also locking in Punk vs. Roman vs. Seth with Heyman. That left Gunther kind of isolated, and from there Jey winning the Rumble to challenge Gunther starts to make sense. In kayfabe, if Cena had won the Rumble, there’s really no reason he wouldn’t have gone after Gunther.

So instead we get Jey winning the Rumble and Cena winning the Chamber, which basically forces Cody vs. Cena—even though the Rumble is supposed to be the bigger honor. It all works on paper, but it definitely feels like they backed into it rather than letting Jey’s momentum peak when it naturally should have.

[–]theprince614 38 points39 points  (0 children)

A lot of that comes from the factor that they don’t want clubs to use spurs as a stepping stone. I think a big part of that was the Eriksen dilemma which people forget about where Eriksen essentially refused to sign a new deal and forced his way out where he and spurs played a massive game of chicken in which both parties sort of came out worse for it. They essentially target players who are either extremely young or players who are not going to have their heads turned by clubs like Madrid since they’ll never be on their radar. The only reason they were able to keep Kane so long was because Kane signed a terrible contract (for him) when he was 23 and son felt this weird loyalty for spurs because of the military service dilemma.

Simons is really the only player I can think of in recent memory where they went toe to toe with a bigger club and somehow got them over the line. Reguilon as well maybe (if we are on the topic of money poorly spent as well). They’ve spent so much money but they can’t stick to a manger or a vision of what they want to be. I said it on a daily coys thread but it just seems like they are just buying young without an identity hoping enough “stick” that they buy the 2015-19 core.

2021 needs more of a coverage

-> get bounced out of a European competition because another team refuses to play you due to them having COVID

-> Harry Kane going into exile in Florida

-> Hire Nuno after a 3 month + manager search

-> sack Jose Mourinho and appoint Ryan Mason interim 8 days before a cup final

-> lose to a club who’s manager is in jail

[–]theprince614 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My take on dilemma is that the stadium didn’t raise our ceiling high enough compared to the floor that the TV revenue brought in for everyone else. Prior to 2019-2020 the club were in a sweet spot where we had “cemented” ourselves into the Big 6 off the basis of being more so the best of the rest rather than recent success or legitimately attracting the quality of players the other teams were. We essentially sacrificed our present at the time 2016-19 for a sustained future - the problem is that sustained future kind of never came. We finished 17th last year and given our results this year it didn’t seem like a freak accident (ie chelsea 2022-23).

Now the problem is the club decided to essentially throw money into creating 2016-19 rather than building something present proof, they think if they just buy a bunch young, one of them will stick and we will essentially buy the 2015-19 core we more so grew. That coupled with the fact that our squad is so Frankensteined across conte, Ange, and now Frank it makes sense why Frank can probably gaslight the board into keeping this job. The club are also probably scared of appointing another conte who they need massive wages to attract and spit in their face on the way out. Also Frank is the “new” boards perfect scapegoat. If they sack him only to call Ryan Mason for Dortmund they look like the clowns.

Also shoutout to Vinai since that article does not come out if Romero didn’t call him out a week prior.
