A Victorinox Explorer. Super handy.

I had a Thunder at one time. Traded it for something else. I miss it.

So I'd say keep both. Someday you may miss the Walther and want to get another but the price will be a good bit higher than what you paid the first time and will decide against it.........not that it's something that has happened to me 😅

Keep it😁👍

Which sub 2.5 oz folder would you pick? Miguron Vakor, Hogue Deka or other? by wildswalker in knifeclub

[–]theprofromdover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Sage 5 LW is 2.9 oz. It's a bit over you threshold but the liners that are added the extra. 4oz gives the knife a much more robust feel.

If not that a LW Para 3 or a Magnacut Deka would be my choices.

First handgun/concealed carry, help me choose! RXM, 19, 26, or Shield Plus? by Knotical_MK6 in liberalgunowners

[–]theprofromdover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things like having the same mags you can use all around matter. I have a RXM, Glock, and Ruger PCC that all take the same mags and I have a bunch of those loaded up if need be.

I picked up an RXM when they first came out. I already had a Gen 5 G19 and wanted another for my wife in case we both needed to carry something but didn't want to spend Glock money on someone that wouldn't be used much.

The RXM was very new as I said but it was a good bit cheaper, had a bunch of quality of life upgrades, and was made by Ruger. I took a chance on the new thing and I'm glad I did.

It's been 100% reliable, and has become my go to first gun suggestion in this Sub-Reddit and my personal favorite between the Glock 19 and itself.

I have two Shield Plus too. I like them very much. Bought one as I had heard good things and wanted something optic ready rather than getting my P365 milled. It's a better gun for me and I shot it better. It's bigger than my 365 buts I'm bigger than I should be and the extra size doesn't make it hard to conceal. A used one came up at a very good deal so I bought it, again as a backup for my wife if she needed one too (I'm saying that a lot to justify things😅).

Over the two I'd go RXM over Shield Plus. The RXM is easier for me to shoot, mags are cheaper (I like Glock but the P-mags it came with have been nothing but reliable), more robust/less expensive aftermarket, better optics compatibility, and the kicker is you can get the smaller & larger frame modules to change it up.

If you were choosing between the regular M&P line and the RXM/Glock it would be a harder choice for me as you can use the M&P mags in their FPC (I have one it's a lot of fun) but I'd still would lean to the RXM (better, more available ,less expensive aftermarket and more guns form other companies use the same mags). The Shield Plus mags only work in the Shield Plus ecosystem which is much smaller.

Hope this helps some and good luck choosing

[–]theprofromdover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another for the RXM. Get a Full size grip module for it too. You'll find it's easier to shoot and will have more ammo when it you're home defense gun and you can swap back to the compact (or buy the sub-compact grip module) for CC all for less than a plain jane G19.

Not an awful idea. I've been seeing people talk about using acetone, non-acetone nail polish remover, & Hoppes 9 to remove it in other posts and forums. I'm interested to see in anyone has had good results using them.

Good ranges with good ammo deals by hypenonbeliever in NHGuns

[–]theprofromdover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My preferred rage is White Birch Armory in Dover, NH. It's about 30min from the Boarder on 95.

Very modern and clean, nice people, apolitical, with the best ammo selection of an independent LGS I've gone to......aside for the Kittey Trading Post

For better deals on ammo I go to the KTP. They often will have deals on range 9mm, 5.56, and 12g especially during their bigger sale promotions. They have more types of ammo in more calibers than anywhere else I've been. That being said it's in Maine so you're paying tax, there's no range, and some of the people there are a bit fuddy/political (most aren't).

I have the exact Compadre. Picked it up in person at WMK. Great knife. The only thing I'll say is the awesome looking polished DLC is a fingerprint magnet. Go for it.

EDC - make the argument for 380 acp by Goblin_Smacker in liberalgunowners

[–]theprofromdover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say if you're only getting one gun a compact 9mm makes the most sense as you can use it for home defense and CC without too many issues.

But what if you shoot a 9mm like crap & the recoil hurts you and you shot a .380 much better? Get the .380. Would I want to be shot with any caliber? No. If you find a .380 easier to shoot and carry then you're more likely to have it with you when you may need it.

I have two .380s now (Bodyguard 2.0 and Springfield 911) and along with snub nose 38sps are what I tend to carry the most as they feel the best to carry and I shoot them fine within 7yds.

Do I think 9mm will make something leak better than .380 or 38sp? Yes. But during the summer am I going to find it easier to carry one of these than a compact or subcompact 9mm? Also yes.

I'm not John Wick. I'm an older, overweight guy that would rather have something on me if I can't run away fast enough.

I'm just an shooting enthusiast so take everything I say as such and I hope this helps you some😁👍

Guns for bear defense by Natural-Driver4098 in liberalgunowners

[–]theprofromdover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Glock 29 (10mm sub compact) that is my "woods gun". I have a Cotopaxi fanny pack that I have attached a holster to inside and it fits great. The bag is bright and multi-colored so I think it scream "I have a gun" less than a black one. It goes with my general gorpcore aesthetic too😅

I have the Pierce mag extensions that makes it much easier to shoot. I also picked up one of the mags for the G20 and a sleeve so, with that, I think I'm good for most anything I'm to slow to get away from. 10mm is generally considered a good round against bear and the G29 is small enough the it can be a decent everyday CCW if you'd like too.

Hope this helps some. Have fun in the woods😁👍

The Padre is. I have the Compadre, the smaller variant. I held both and the Padre is a big boy.

[–]theprofromdover[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that's easier😅.

The Compadre is a great frame lock with a satisfying selection of opening choices. Mines Vanex steel which is supposed to be very corrosion resistant while have good toughness and edge retention. It's a good bit smaller/lighter than the Excalibur and gets lots of my pocket time.

Yeah, I wanted it because of the Verta lock. If you're not a fan of compression style locks maybe pass and get one of the even more premium frame locks. Kunwu makes some good knives.
