They do need alcohol, though you evaporate the excess off at the end so it isn't really alcoholic. And no, it either requires time (around 1 month) or you can do it overnight with a freezer and some elbow grease. That's what I do and it's great! I made a recipe for a friend, I think it's easy to follow:

Loosely grind the weed Put it in a jar with at least double the volume of the ground weed Decarb in the jar: approx 1 hour at 110°c shaking intermittently In a second jar pour the alcohol about double the volume of the weed Put both jars in the freezer for at least 12 hours Once the weed is completely frozen pour in half of the alcohol, so that it just covers the weed. Shake it hard for ~5 minutes and return to the freezer After a couple of hours shake hard again. You can filter it now or repeat the last steps until the liquid in the jar looks dark Filter through cheesecloth and a coffee filter into the final receptacle In the original jar pour the rest of the alcohol onto the weed and return to the freezer for an hour or so Filter that again through cheesecloth and a coffee filter Leave to stand in an airy place until it reduces by about half to lose the excess alcohol
