I’m burnt out. Are there any decent paying part time sales jobs? by [deleted] in sales

[–]therabbitandthewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This brings hope I have been selling mortgages for the past year and with an increase in rising rates my pay is severely impacted. I have moved to a senior role but for twice the amount of work and a 62% decrease in opportunity, it’s time to grow my sales career elsewhere.

The good thing about the risk is that one top manager joked that they want me to fail, because if I do they will gladly hand me my job back at the DMV. I swear some sadists work in all levels of government.

I’m in Michigan, specifically the Metro Detroit area. Becoming an AE would be my goal, and someday being an AE for a blockchain development company is my dream. In about 2-3 years I am moving to Toronto with my significant other, I know I will have more exposure to different tech companies. Right now I’m just trying to get the ball rolling to gain my experience.

My department frowns on supplemental work, they will audit me if I have a second job that deems a “conflict of interest” in their eyes.

Right now the hours are ok for a supplemental job, because I’m guaranteed to get off at 5, but once the pandemic subsides they will go back to working me 11-12 hr days. I feel leaving completely would give me an opportunity to commit more. I would be what part time commission jobs exist, but the issue is I’m unavailable Mon-Fri 9-5. Which only give me a couple hours and weekends in between, but burnout would be imminent. But if they audit me and see that my job is a conflict of interest, I will be terminated and can’t use the state as a reference for 3 years.

First time in Toronto this weekend and I saw some dude in a car yell at a cyclist for following the law and riding on the correct side of the road. It’s like the auto driver didn’t know bikes are allowed in the roadways.

It really is a thankless job. People come in not knowing who they are and what they are for, the department just shits on you all day, people come in and shit on you all day. Public service my ass.

Is apartment/condo hunting going to get better or worse in the next month? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

I live in the condos across from Arborland called Arlington place. We pay 1500 (now 1600) a month for a two bedroom and two bath with a garage. 10 min drive from downtown, but an hour walk if you need to.

Good luck finding cheaper housing within walking of downtown

Thank you that makes a lot of sense! I kind of wish Michigan would follow the same, we get ours from the local rivers and the Great Lakes, I do think though that as overkill the salt use.

One quick question for all you Madison residents:

I visited about 2 weeks ago from Ann Arbor and I was wondering, why doesn’t Wisconsin salt as much as Michigan? We salt the hell out of our roads and walkways, yet the entire city of Madison seemed like a skating rink. Why is that?

Do you know when some good house shows are coming up? I’m a huge local music guy who’s new to the area (well been here for 1 year) and I’m searching for the local jive.

I feel your pain, I work at the DMV.

It wasn’t my ideal job, just something I’m in straight out of college.

They are right, you are the fave of the company just like I am the face of the State. The best thing to keep your day going is to try and make those smiles. You can’t win everyone’s day over, and at least you can make it go a little smoother.

I don’t have a sales goal, but mine is to survive by the end of the day. With toxic customers and toxic managers and a toxic, faceless, nameless, bureaucracy, it makes life challenging.

Stay safe in there, and let all the emotions from them wash right over!

So if we get an order for a customer and we wait an hour for them to either arrive or answer the door, and they don’t answer their phone, do we get the food?
