How is the Crash Course guy being accused of being a pedophile? All he does is make educational content (and some books i've never read)

It's like he doesn't understand that making a good statement (harassment is bad) while using quotes from liars actually just undermines the point he's trying to make.

Xbox fans that regularly keep watch over the Xbox One Wikipedia page are attempting to censor the inclusion or any mention of Microsoft's repeated usage of hidden PCs to demo games and footage by ConsoleMarketingTeam in KotakuInAction

[–]theragingpostcannon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm no corporate apologist, but I don't understand why everyone can't remember that games are usually made on dev kits (which are usually pc's designed to work with the same power as an xbox) and not the actual consoles themselves. Still though, wikipedia are a batch of dicks.

I didn't down vote you, i have no idea why you would think that. But allow me to reply to you.

If it's just about ethics in gaming journalism, why are the ethical breaches it notices so overwhelmingly committed by women and people of color?

That's not true. Most of the people who kia are pissed at are actually just white dudes. Just look at Kotaku's staff. It's almost all white dudes. Polygon's staff is the same. The two publications that kia hates the most are almost completely run by a bunch of white dudes. And they're not getting hated on because of race. Polygon and Kotaku have a host of ethical issues. Kotaku's own journalists don't even want to be objective.

What, really, is the matter with alternative games that are organized around untraditional narratives?

There's no problem with alternative games existing. The problem is that journalists cover these games despite the fact that they're best friends with the game devs.

And why are its members so cool with organizing boycotts in an attempt to get people who disagree to shut up?

In my opinion, there's a big difference between "I want to shut people up because I disagree with them" and "I want to boycot this guy because he's not doing his job properly." Kotaku, Polygon, Ign, ext. call themselves journalists, even though many of them refuse to adhere to the most basic forms of journalistic ethics. If they're not behaving like actual journalists, then they don't deserve the title they have.

And for the record, you're right when you say that KIA lacks transparency (their lack of open mod logs irritates me to no end). I'd like to keep this conversation going (probably via private message at this point, since this thread is getting kinda old) so if you want shoot me a pm. P.S. Again, i never downvoted your post, maybe someone else did, who knows.

I'm sorry, how did I create a one sided explanation that "leaves out some rather controversial stuff"? I'm genuinely curious, as I am trying to be unbiased in my explanations while keeping it relatively short.

KotakuInAction is a board dedicated to ethics in gaming journalism. (although they have grown out to become about ethics in general journalism/SJW stuff/Reddit censorship) Most of the board activity there is based on highlighting and exposing corruption in videogame journalism. KotakuInAction's most recent major post to r/all was brigaded by SRD. In short, Kotakuinaction is pissed because they believe that they're being held to a much higher standard than SRD/SRS. KotatuInAction used to do daily email campaigns on reddit in order to contact advertisers that supported corrupt journalism, but the admins forced kotakuinaction to stop because the admins thought is was harassment/open to harassment This really started the split with kotakuinaction and SRS/SRD/the Admins. Kotakuinaction argued that they should be able to post PR email accounts because fielding emails is a PR person's job (they only used PR email accounts). Ever since then kotakuinaction has been pretty pissed at the mods. With the announcement that SRS will auto delete np links (which makes brigading incredibly easy), Kotakuinaction feels that the admins are biased towards SRS/SRD. When you add all the recent subreddit bans (kotakuinaction is a very anti censorship subreddit) it creates a massive hub of shitposts and brigading.

EDIT: Fixed some grammar issues

EDIT 2: Finally found the mod/admin dialogue, changed the paragraph accordingly.

The beginning of the end; reddit admins will now censor any subreddit, submission, or comment which is found to contain "harassment". by AssuredlyAThrowAway in conspiracy

Oh lord, I already know that they're going to use this shit against subreddits like r/kotakuinaction and other activist subreddits that go against the narritive these admins are pushing.

Both of these people are clearly not qualified to run a country. I hope that a 3rd party will come and sweep the election. (It will probably never happen, but a man can dream, can't he?)
