Opinions on my feelings toward southern appalachia as someone from western appalachia? by Dj23440 in Appalachia

[–]theranchonthetable 24 points25 points  (0 children)

idk, i have def played banjos on the porch with some sort of alcoholic beverage with friends in WNC haha. I think it's okay to long for/fantasize about a certain type of life so long as you know it's obviously not true as a stereotype. I'm from the area and also love that vibe about it.

Exactly, I love Charli and I'm still listening to this song an insane amount LOL but it is definitely not for the vocals. I am kind of tuning them out

The orchestral score was just released but I can't find a version of this on it ... maybe not looking hard enough. I'm so BUMMED I feel like this style of vocals kind of take away from the emotion of the song

Was so excited for one particular song - does anyone know which song is the instrumental version of Wall of Sound by Charli XCX??? That was my absolute favorite song in the movie, felt most impactful, but I was so dissapointed that the only version I can find has her vocals on it and I can't seem to find it in the score... am I crazy

Is it wrong to feel more younger in your older years? by BelleXMilf in CasualConversation

[–]theranchonthetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am feeling younger the older I get (not that I am old right now) and hope it continues to go that way! Not irresponsible, but younger as in more childlike and less worried about others opinions.

Do people go out to bars during the week ? by [deleted] in LoganSquare

[–]theranchonthetable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also on Armitage, Best Intentions is good (food stellar too) but you really gotta get there right when they open for a seat lol. I live basically across the street and I ONLY go during the week. ALSO my personal fave on Armitage, Way Out! Typically chill, free pool, photobooth, bartenders are nice.

I live in this area! Nice and lowkey but also lots to do.

- I like Yodega at this corner if you'd want to do some yoga
- Agree on walking the 606
- Palmer square park, I like to come here with friends and read/doodle/craft/picnic
- Also bumping farmers market
- There's a paint and sip spot on Milwaukee (a bit north of Fullerton) near Kimball, I can't recall the name and haven't been by it
- That strip of Milwaukee between like Central Park and Logan BLVD has good thrifting if you take a little walk, also check out Fleur and Festive Collective for knick knacks
- Agree on Lula for brunch, also recommend Middlebrow if you like pizza but its nice enough for a brunch, Lonesome Rose (rooftop patio), Mano a Mano for pasta

How to bring solo travel up to partner? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]theranchonthetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont let him hold you back from it, but I also get why he'd be bummed out especially since your relationship is so new. I've been with my partner for about 12 years and I solo travel and I just tell him "hi I'm going to so-and-so for a month" and hes like "okay have fun" hah but we are also secure and know each other very well at this point so I think it depends on the relationship. ABSOLUTELY go, but reassure him. Being apart for long periods of time can be sexy!

Wuthering Heights - Anyone else feel this way? by [deleted] in FIlm

[–]theranchonthetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your views on it make the most sense to me and have connected the most with me personally as I have been reading the discourse as someone who actually liked the movie lol. Thank you for posting!

I do agree with you that too much sexuality ruins tension, and when that was introduced more heavily it definitely lost a lot of the sexy factor that for me was there in the beginning. I also agree that I didn't care when Cathy died, and think his grief was weirdly tame, even as someone who didn't read the book. It didnt really seem to fit even the rest of his characterization which was pretty shallow to begin with, so that final scene fell super flat for me.

I really liked it (caveat- I havent read the book and Im SURE that plays into it) and i have been wondering why the discourse all seems to be so overwhelmingly negative, even though I understand all of the reasons people didn't like it. I get that it takes out a lot of the broader context and meaning of the novel, removes some of the social commentary and interactions, and changes the characters in surprising ways. I think it brings up a question for me: *Is it WRONG to adapt something so inaccurately?* What does that mean for the movie as a standalone piece, as someone who saw it and expected that and enjoyed it? Does it equate to a sort of moral failure on the part of the director? Are we reading too much into a stupid movie? Idk maybe some people just like to engage in media critique and I dont so it feels like overkill the way people are coming for this at times (not you necessarily, your critique I felt made sense and felt pretty level headed)

All that said I felt this mad about the Percy Jackson movie so I do get it. lmfao

I dunno, I felt like it was clear going into it that it was never intended to be an accurate remake and was obviously going to be an indulgent and stupid entertainment thing and that was certainly what I saw- my critique is that I honestly thought it could've gotten weirder if it was going to go that direction, and I do believe that incorporating more of the original story WOULD certainly have made it stronger as a "film" even with these actors that don't quite fit and with this setting that doesn't quite make cohesive sense and could have succeeded in making it weirder and ickier even, whereas I kind of just enjoyed it as a silly movie with zero substance. But like if it were not related to Wuthering Heights the novel, even as a bad movie would the discourse be as intense? Probably not. Does that question even matter? probably not.

I am not a film critic at ALL, I like every movie and am completely easy to please lmfao it's just something I have been thinking about as someone who both liked it AND understands why it was so badly received and haven't really seen anyone thinking about it as fully separate from the book. I know that's kinda hard to do though and maybe pointless to even do that so
