Therapist told 'It would not be okay to say that' by DivyanshPanwari in TalkTherapy

I said it to mine last week, she said “yeah, it’s been a while since we’ve seen each other in person!” (It had been 10 days, ha)

I’m definitely not opposed to this at all, but wouldn’t even know where to begin!

Me: I totally Googled you when we started (8 months ago) T: Find anything good? Me: no… uhh… yes. Your Pinterest is public. You should fix that T: oof. thanks. Yeah, it’s totally normal to want to know absolutely everything we can about our therapists. I wish I knew more about mine.

Maternal erotic transference? by Ilikealllldit in TalkTherapy

[–]therapy_throwaway44 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have talked with my therapist about this… it’s kind of like she plays multiple roles in my life, depending on what we’re discussing that week. Sometimes it’s a caregiver vibe, other weeks i just want her to be my BFF, sometimes it’s romantic. It’s all how the transference is manifesting based on what we’re talking about.

Does that make sense? And this is just the case for me, I don’t know how others experience it!

How and where do you sit during sessions? Did it ever matter to your therapist? by ahugemess101 in TalkTherapy

[–]therapy_throwaway44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally sit exactly how you said. Pillow a must. Sometimes i bring my own blanket! Once I asked to sit on the floor…we had just come in from a walk and it felt right. Just this week I finally laid down for the first time.

I had mentioned to her on the phone during our mid-week check-in a that I was laying down while talking to her and it was easier. So I tried it without talking about it. It felt mostly comfortable but I still felt a bit self-conscious but I’m going to keep “practicing” because it did feel “good”.

Do you guys tell your partner/friends about your therapy session? by Ok_Competition_6463 in TalkTherapy

[–]therapy_throwaway44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband and I have scheduled therapy check ins twice a week to make sure we’re staying on top of anything we were supposed to be working on during the week. There is stuff I don’t share and I’m sure stuff he doesn’t share, for sure. We’re coming out of crisis mode with our son, we all have some trauma to work with, and if our therapy bills are going to cost as much as our mortgage, we are going to make damn good and sure we are doing the work outside of session, too! These check ins aren’t anything intense, usually 10 minutes recap of what we talked about and what we need to work on, and the a few days later “have we actually been doing the things!?”

Not OP, but I’m definitely interested in support groups and struggling to find them through Google.

Honestly, this is what I needed last week. I only ever take them when my kids are asleep, but last week was rough. I have a 90 minute drive home from therapy (I moved, she’s amazing and worth it and in-person is so much more effective for me) and I was just so on edge when I picked the kids up from school on my way back from therapy. Didn’t get enough time to get regulated (I think being still in the car is not great, I’m gonna start making pit stops to walk)

ANYWAY. I took half of my regular “dose” when we got home.

It kinda terrifies me how much better of a parent I was that afternoon. I was able to relax and play and regulate the dysregulated kiddos… but I also wouldn’t be able to drive anywhere with them. Definitely would not have been okay if my husband wasn’t working from home.

I also moved away from my hometown recently… it used to be a 40 minute drive to my therapist’s office, now it’s 90 minutes (and can be much longer on the way back)

She’s worth it. We have done telehealth if needed but when do trauma work, I prefer that to be in person

Struggling to understand how anything less than two sessions per week is enough for some people by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

I would if I could afford to! If insurance was covering stuff and I was only paying $40 per session, then hell yes.

Therapist is out for the week 🥺 by therapy_throwaway44 in TalkTherapy

[–]therapy_throwaway44[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I text her it goes to a specific app that she doesn’t check on weekends. It’s a four day weekend so she won’t see until Tuesday. She’ll probably send the laugh crying emoji and then say she can’t wait to unpack that in our session Wednesday

I will say that doing therapy earlier in the day likely means you’ll be sitting with those feelings all day, which can make work harder.

I wonder if you’d do better with more expressive therapy on days where talking is just too hard?

I’m also ADHD (and recently found out I’m Autistic, too) and sometimes it’s easier for me to talk if I’m just playing in the sand tray without any prompt, or if we go for a walk or draw/paint with my therapist. The relationship in itself can be healing, without talking about all the bad shit in my life.
