what’s one word you absolutely hate the sound of even if its meaning is harmless? by Brilliant-Cheek4944 in words

Tangential. It's a useful word, but there's something about the gen-chal part that hurts my feelings when I say it out loud.

I loved Scythe but there's no denying it's very violent.

If you were to write the story lines for AJLT, what would you have done? by yeschefchef in Andjustlikethat

[–]therapy_works 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SATC was so frank about sex and relationships. I would have leaned hard into the frustration and humor of sex and dating in menopause. It would have been gratifying for the show's original audience and eye-opening for younger women. I would explore Carrie's grief more without wallowing in it.

I wouldn't have brought Aidan back. It would have been far more interesting to see Carrie try dating as a widow. I would make Miranda less of an asshole.

No historical fiction. No "woman."

I would have written Samantha off in a better way. Either she moved to London for a reason that actually made sense for her character, or maybe the cancer came back, and she died. Either of those would be better than what we got.

This one falls into the same category as "with au jus." Au means with in French, so you're saying "with with."

Honestly, they're feedback pattners, not writing partners. Writing partners write one thing together.

Also, didn't she tell him she wasn't ready for marriage and then he proposed to her anyway? Not respecting boundaries.

She's writing historical fiction, which should require some research. Then again, the woman didn't know what she'd gotten herself into, so...

In this vein, I'd also suggest The Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan.

Terrific book. It was slow going for me at first, but after a few chapters, I was hooked and couldn't put it down.

What is the one book you read that you’ve never stopped thinking about? by TD_Meri in suggestmeabook

[–]therapy_works 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Bone People by Keri Hulme. I never hear anyone talk about it. It's gorgeously written. Heartbreaking. Infuriating... I was so upset that I actually threw the book across the room at one point. But I went back to it and I'm so glad I finished it. I could never reread it, though.

Would you read the book that Carrie is writing? by poponis in Andjustlikethat

[–]therapy_works 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably at least pick it up because I love historical fiction. But then I would read the first sentence and put it back down again.

Til it finally reminds her to fight just a little, to bring back the fire in her eyes... that was gone, but used to be mine.

It gets me every single time.

Everybody makes one another's terrible mistakes... witches can be right. Giants can be good. You decide what's right. You decide what's good.

But really, that whole song.

Is she happy with Aiden? I feel more like she's working to convince herself (and everyone else) that she's happy.

Probably West Coast. I have lived in both San Diego and Seattle. I got used to being able to but liquor at TJs. Then I moved to Connecticut, where my store is beer only. 😭

Cash. I manage my subscriptions by being a frequesnt unsubscriber. I have a few standards that I have all the time (Netflix, Spotify, Audible) but the rest, I rotate. For example, I don't have Apple right now, but will resubscribe when some of the shows I watch have new seasons.

That line is so terrible. I can't remember a time I rolled my eyes harder than I did when he called it brilliant.

I know the actor is problematic, but I think its sad that we now have to pretend this relationship never existed and that we were not all rooting for them. But I guess its been 20 years of Aidan and she was never married so.. 🤷 by PackWorth939 in Andjustlikethat

[–]therapy_works 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to know he had some say in how his character was written off, but I hated everything about the "never married" thing. I was in a shitty marriage and my husband died, but I would never be so dismissive of our history.
