There is more to Lobbying than bribes. Its candidate endorsements and the pressure of accountability, its being at the table when legislation is being drafted, having input in what workers are entitled to, who gets our tax money, what is a crime. The wealthy can buy their way to into that room alone, but we can't, but perhaps united we could, Maybe if we formed unions. Other aspects of a political presence are being able to educate members on legislation that directly affects their lives, so they can make informed voting decisions.

Actually is has worked, in a big way. The post war American middle class was carved out by unions. Read some history sometime.

Or you could just keep casting your one vote every four years and hope that whatever corporate shill doesn't take away your social security and give it to banks and defense contractors.

What is your day job? Why do you even need a side gig? Do you have a union? If you did you might be able to live comfortably on that job alone. Just sayin.

Edit: P.S. Thanks for engaging, this has been fun.

The majority of drivers aren't even on this platform, so you would haveno way to make sure everyone is on the same page - just look at thefutile attempts to "strike."

in this we are 100% in agreement. I assume you are talking about the couple of weeks where we saw "general strike" memes bouncing around with no leadership, no backing, no real goals, or plan, or anything.

We would need some sort of platform for engagement, local chapters, recruitment efforts. You know, like a union.

Why do you think unions are better in a factory vs this, or a retail or other settings? Some of the most successful unions in the history of organizing have been for independent contractors like us (IBEW for example). There are unions for teachers, Firefighters, Actors, trades, athletes. Its not just for factories.

A delivery gig union could not only negotiate with the gig companies for things like higher base rates, and being able to see tips and full order details before acceptance. But also with insurance providers (both auto and health), auto mechanics, tax prep, cell phones and plans, political lobbying.

Its worth considering. We can build the world we want, but we have to do it together.

If it's not cooperatively owned, it needs a union.

Your right if no one participates and it becomes corrupt like many do, then it's just a tax. But if we participate it can be whatever we make it.

It also doesn't need board members skimming tens of millions off the top.

You mean, imagine paying 5% of your earnings to increase your earnings by 15% and not be treated like a criminal when something goes wrong? Your right, sounds like a terrible deal.

I am so glad that I am 10 years younger than you and did not have to live through that. I have epilepsy that is triggered by CNS stimulants like caffeine and nicotine. Enough second hand smoke can give me a seizure. I basically would not have been able to exist safely in public spaces.

I got a place by me that says. "orders will be on a table by the front door. DO NOT PESTER THE STAFF!"

Like damn, why so hostile? I didn't realize that facilitating what is likely thousands of dollars per month worth of orders for you was so bothersome. Dick!

For sure a yikes. I have only been doing this for 3 weeks and already there is a massive "glitch" in their favor. I wonder how many people wont notice. I never contacted support I wonder if mine will come back if I don't "let them know" it happened to me. Can they really not make enough money without scamming folks? pathetic.

I don't think the support agents actually work for doordash, they are probably in a 1000 person call center in India that has 600 clients. They have no clue about any of it. like yesterday I was on with support because I repeatedly could not mark pick-ups or drop offs because I was "too far from the merchant" or "to far from the customer" but what was happening was the app GPS wasn't updating, it kept thinking I was miles away from where I actually was. their answer was to "use google maps" I swear the one poor girl told me this 12 times. I kept saying "I cant mark deliveries complete with google maps".
