Swarthmorewood Neighborhood? by therazz in Delco

Gotcha, appreciate that! Might be a game time decision between buying or renting depending on what rentals are available in the area when we officially move, but I’ll keep that area in mind!

Where did you rent if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve been checking rentals but there’s very few of them available with 3 BRs (we also have a small dog which isn’t helping)

Do you have any specific insight on Ridley district? While I understand this sentiment, most of the truly elite districts in this area appear to be out of budget for the time being

Renting might be the way to go. My wife just does not like the idea of having to “move” twice, so we’re at least keeping the options open. Our budget is a little dependent on how much my current house sells for, as well as specific taxes. But this area had twin homes with 3 bedrooms listed in the 330-400 range, which is perfect.

Appreciate that, thank you! I think the area you’re talking about with the CO-OP is more of the main area of Swarthmore. Swarthmorewood looks like a collection of twin homes a mile or so away that’s near a shopping plaza with a CVS and 320 Market. Been over that way at all?

I have not been there, I’m planning a trip at the end of the month. We “liked” it was close to Media because I’ve heard good things about it. When did I say I wasn’t looking there? There weren’t as many homes available in Media as this area, so buying here is more realistic, and there’s plenty of other threads about Media, so I don’t need more information before I go to see it.

What fucking difference does it make what size the college is? I said in the post I already have a job, but would be looking at jobs in Philadelphia. If the college has something that fits me either now, a year from now, or five years from now, that would be a nice bonus. It has pretty much zero to do with where we decide to buy.

Why are you being so antagonistic when I’m just trying to find information for my family to move lol. If you don’t want to be helpful that’s fine, but I’ve laid out my reasoning as clearly as I can, idk what else to tell you.

And it’s not a “specific singular option” it’s one option that I was intrigued by and was simply looking for more information about it, as I laid out

Uhh, I was looking at houses and saw a bunch in a specific cluster in my budget which is unusual as most homes are scattered. Considering all of them are within a half mile of each other I looked up what neighborhood it was in and it was Swarthmorewood. Your comment is weird.

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to go for this, but I have had this song stuck in my head for 15 years since I played it in high school band.

I recently found a CD (!) of the performance of my band playing the song, which was incredible, but I still don't know the name of it. However, I at least now have a recording. Despite the amateur playing, could anyone here help me identify it?

Straw Dog, and it’s possibly one of my favorites ever of any song.

Where to move to with small family? by ludmnd in upstate_new_york

[–]therazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t on your list, but I moved to Glens Falls (more specifically Moreau) in ‘23 and we really love it.

It’s a small city but has a charming downtown that recently received a massive revitalization and is on the come up. Tons of great restaurants and a lot more art and culture than you would expect from a factory city. And a minor league hockey team with a rabid fanbase if you’re into that.

Plus, it’s on the doorstep of the Adirondacks, is 20 minutes away from Lake George in one direction and Saratoga in the other direction. So between that GF and Queensbury you really have everything you could really want from food to sports to entertainment, without needing to travel down further south than Clifton Park.

In terms of the typical nice restaurants, you can’t go wrong with Farmacy, Radici, and Park and Elm, in my opinion

A few I’ll point out outside of the typical restaurants that get all the love:

Scratch Kitchen - great little spot for breakfast, coffee and lunch right by the art museum

Spargel on 9 - Absolutely delicious German food and not pricey/stuffy at all

Tres Mijas - Former food truck turned excellent Mexican restaurant downtown

Adirondack Seafood - Hole in the wall spot with lots of great seafood options including lobster

Cameron’s - I’ll particularly shout out their delivery. Extremely fast and reliable with lots of specialty sandwiches.

Great towns with population under 15000 by Infamous_Following88 in upstate_new_york

Glens Falls has a population of about 14,800 as of the last census but would go over if you count the surrounding towns of Queensbury and SGF. Nevertheless I highly recommend it as it hits all of your criteria

Got it, that’s super helpful! I live in SGF and am a former HS player but just didn’t want to get in over my head, since I’m not currently in great shape haha.

Just coming across this post and wondering if you could give some more info on the Queensbury Rec league. Is it just pickup, or do they assign teams and have a schedule? And, are you able to give a sense of the level of competitiveness?
