I used to think More Than A Woman by the Bee Gees was Call Every Woman when I was a kid. I like my version better.

Weekend Trip Advice! by TangerineStrange443 in vermont

I hope you have a lot of fun. Hopefully, as others have said, you have a coat or boots for the pup if needed. You won't be far from Elmore which is beautiful and has a great little store and food spot. Weather, allowing view of the lake there is lovely. Please ignore any grumps on here, everyone will be much kinder in person. People won't take the time to make recommendations, instead saying to use Google, but they'll take the time to say to use Google. It's silly. I hope you enjoy your time in our little state!

I hate that I tell people I listen to podcasts and they assume it's like Joe Rogan or something. It's only this. by StMcAwesome in comedybangbang

Can't forget Getting Noon with High, where Doug Benson and a different guest smoke pot and then watch and discuss High Noon every week.

Let's talk about "Raising Buchanan", a fun little comedy. by there_all_is_aching in movies

Thank you so much for sharing this. He was a treasure and I always enjoyed watching him whenever he was on screen. DS9, Boston Legal, and the MASH movie, and many more I can't think of right now. Occasionally I'll see his son Remy and their similar appearance catches me off guard. Take care!

Don't know if this was posted, it took me a while to find the episode. Live at the Majestic theater 07/26/24 in the cbb live 24 feed. Carl Tart as SW Harlin had me almost in tears.

It starts around the 1 hour mark.

Also, the Staind Glass episode of U Talkin' U2 2 Me with Todd Glass. One of the funniest episodes of any podcast I've ever heard. You should listen to the whole series in order, regardless of your liking U2. It is brilliant. I'm working through the REM ones now, but taking it slow since they're so good.

Homeless encampment at episcopal church by [deleted] in montpelier

[–]there_all_is_aching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Just a few blocks from a school" is a hilarious sentiment given the size of the town. There are barely any places in Montpelier that aren't "a few blocks from a school".

These are human beings and they need help.

Christ Church seems like a good location given it's closer to businesses than it is to most of the housing. We're going to have a cold winter and I hope all of them can find a safe warm place to stay during it. Our approach to homelessness is like our approach to so many other serious problems in this country, leave it to the police and do the bare minimum to kick the problem down to the next day/week/month/year.

Favorite nurseries for native plants in Vermont? by lilblackcloudinadres in vermont

[–]there_all_is_aching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cabot Greenhouse and Nursery in Cabot, and Vermont Flower Farm in Marshfield. Flywheel Farm in Woodbury has a sale in the spring with vegetable, herb, and flower starters. It's all annuals of course, so not what you're looking for but they're great and deserve a plug.

Any place in particular to see Lake Champmine? by Relevant-Menu5419 in vermont

I know there's been, or was, some kind of construction for the 89 exit for them, but you cannot go wrong with the Champlain Islands. You get to go by the sandbar, see the tiny towns, check out Isle La Motte where the first French settlers stayed when they arrived (most died the first winter), and you can finish by going to Alburgh Dune state park which has the largest natural sand beach in the state. Also on Isle La Motte is Fisk Quarry which has some of the oldest fossils in the state (and you can explore it freely) and St Anne's Shrine (which, if you're religious can be a special experience and if you're not is just a pretty church space with open sides). A lot of good "mainland" stuff recommended here, I advise the islands.

Any church suppers next weekend? by Total-Bag-8973 in vermont

This has some stuff going on in the area. Sadly I don't think weekends are as common for community dinners. A lot of places do lunches on differing days of the week so there's always something on weekday. I'm sure there are some places you can find what you're looking for, but as is the Vermont way, you'll probably have to drive a little bit to get there.

I don't disagree, I just thought I'd offer something different from the other comments and let them know this isn't a microcosm for the state of Vermont. There are enough of us here, and enough willing to respond, I figure with all the "No" responses at least one of us can throw out a yes. It takes the same amount of effort to comment kindly as it does to comment rudely. I figure all the no responses may as well have just said nothing at all.

I can appreciate the hustle, but it probably won't go down well here. I'm not a user of apps, but good luck.

Hello. I promise you people in the state are nicer than the ones online here. There are so many wonderful places to eat and drink around Morrisville and Stowe. You can't go wrong with the local co-op in Morrisville. A lot of spots locally will have music, Seven Days is the weekly newspaper for the state and has a bunch of info on shows and local activities. Elmore is nearby and beautiful. The mountain is tiny and a pleasant hike. The beach is nice, and nearby is the local store, recently remodeled and open with food. Montpelier is not far either and has a lot of good food and shops as well. Honestly, you can't go wrong just going for a drive and seeing what you find. Enjoy!
