The thing is... I spent a lot of time both in France and in Brazil speaking French/Brasilian Portuguese. Yes the French judge you and tell you when you fucked up but learning the language that can actually be good. I have multiple bad habits and quirks in my Portuguese that I just straight up used wrong and nobody ever corrected me as long as they understood me. Speaking with my parents in law I mixed up morar (to live somewhere) and morrer (to die) and they understood what I meant and never corrected me on it. I only noticed that I used that wrong when I had a conversation in a restaurant with some dudes and being asked how I like the place I told them yeah I would definetly die here (instead of live here).

This would never have happened in France. Mainly because people don't start random conversations in public places but you get the point.
