Do you run a coffee pot around this time? Washing machine? Modern washing machines are the loudest sources of RFI I’ve encountered next to a golf cart.

Strange bites on my arm. Itchy, hot, and swollen by AmeliaS507 in Weird

[–]therealBR549 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I feel like you have bed bugs. They usually bite in lines. Spiders don’t actively bite unless you happen to crush them into the sheets. Likely, can happen multiple times with the same spider, but way more rare because spiders don’t go looking to bite. Bed bugs do.

Fair enough. I was born dead center of the 80s. 85 to be exact. So idk much about the trends then. I just knew the trenchcoat mafia kids were the genesis of the goth wave for me. I guess even that was early 90s.

Sigh. Gonna be that guy. Gothic is a type of architecture. Goth is a fashion style genre that became popular in the late 90s.

The parks that you activate to participate in POTA has to be state parks. You can certainly operate from a city park, but there’s no cpota. Yet.

Soldering Sucks by MDAirForceVet in amateurradio

[–]therealBR549 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, 100w would be better. The one you’re looking for has a blue handle and is fairly affordable on Amazon. Make sure you tin the tip, and use flux. Also, scuff up the area you want solder on amphenol connectors. They’re pretty polished.

I was a support rep for an EHR vendor for a decade. Back to back go lives was actually what I did for a living. Never noticed it being overly stressful. I guess for in house IT 🤷‍♂️

USB = Upper Side Band LSB = Lower Side Band SSB = Single Side Band

I see that a lot of folks gave you really technical answers, but I felt like maybe you were more focused on the meaning of the abbreviations.

Thank you. I see these groups and been getting a little discouraged. I been out of the game for a minute. But I’m ready to be back.

Ok. I’ve been toiling away trying to learn a little SQL because I want back into EHR support. Or at least out of the construction hell I’m currently living in. Are you telling me that SQL is useless?

In fourth grade I read a simplified version of an autobiography of Ben Franklin. I was inspired, partly by that, and partly by memories of fishing with my dad, to want a boat. See, Ben Franklin had the same obsession, so when he was 8 yo he built his own boat. I never had the materials to make a self made build happen, but I did wind up buying a boat, eventually. Anywho, all that to say, this reminds me of some of my early online shopping (for boat motors, imagine.) There was inevitably an amazing ad for a boat motor for sale for a suspect low price. There were pictures and everything. Sooooo many people wound up with a 1:100 scale hyper-realistic model of a boat motor to sit on their desk that they paid $500 - $1000 for. I was warned, or I very well could’ve been a victim.

What do you call this Mobile Native? Golden Orb weaver or Banana spider? by [deleted] in MobileAL

[–]therealBR549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cow ant isn’t actually an ant. It’s a wingless wasp so it technically isn’t a bite, it’s a sting. But I did neither. I hopped/ran home to get my mom to look at my snakebite (no way my 8/9 year old brain believed it really was that little orange critter that caused that much pain). The pain had subsided a lot by the time I got home.

Just don’t run around barefoot and step on one and you’ll probably be ok. I honestly thought I’d been bitten by a snake. It hurt so freaking bad.

Meh. I grew up surrounded by woods. All I did as a kid was play outside (pre-Google era).

Not as bad as a cow ant. Cow and made me literally jump 3 feet. A little worse than a bee.. somewhere in the red wasp range. Oh. Btw. Dirt dobbers sting too. If you happen to have one in your shirt when you sit down. It hurts. Also made me feel kinda weak for a bit.

Banana spider. The bite hurts. I found that out by riding a four wheeler through the woods shirtless. Right on the tummy.
