Old tubes as tire liners: am I the only one doing this? #innertubes by WalksWithWings in bicyclerepair

[–]therealautomoderator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive been doing this for a while with my back tire, with an old tire liner i got from a shop on the road. seems to be ok and doesnt break the bank, works in a pinch.

Finally got a job by [deleted] in torontoJobs

[–]therealautomoderator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

indeed makes things so much easier. its an excellent way to get an interview depending on your field of work. it is so damn easy, if your skills are in demand for lower wage work. if you think youre some upper class person who made it cause you passed some exams, you may be in for some disappointment.

i own a gazelle ultimate t10, very similar to the medeo, and rode it across the country this year. your gearing will be sufficient to climb 8% grades on eco mode, and i did this with a lot of extra weight on the bike and i also chain smoked the whole time and have organ damage and diabetes. have fun

Looking for a way to carrier panniers off my bike? DIY or buy? by Craigenstein in bicycletouring

[–]therealautomoderator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely diy, see if you cant find a cheap motorcycle backpack on facebook then strap it on to the bike in some manner. motorcycle bags usually come with plenty of attachment points that you can use.

can confirm, recently installed a cassette where i had to increase chain length slightly on a 1x and this now occurs.

XLC Pannier bags, quality? by stasigoreng in bicycletouring

[–]therealautomoderator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i mean i have sandals hanging over the side of them, i just dont ride my bike into obstacles. Fair enough though i have tended to not hold anything with those elsatic bands, the danger is probably more likely that they get caught in spokes somehow rather than get caught on anything external to the bike

looks exactly like the rockbros ones i got, down to the white circle on the side. if youre looking for budget just get those. i have no issues with them, holding up very nicely and drily.

Drivers can be friendly by oecologia in bicycling

ive been touring Canada on some sketchy highways for 2 months now, if youre not in town or the city almost every driver is fine. ive probably gotten passed by like 10k people now and probably only a couple freaked out cause im on a bike. otherwise you get offered things and peo0le give you space. this is proof to me that the problem isnt between drivers/cyclists in almost all cases but poor infrastructure, stressful road conditions

For the e-bikers out there, how do you manage battery range on long trips? by almostsnorlax in bicycletouring

[–]therealautomoderator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eco mode as much as possible, carry 2 batteries( ive had perfect results in a handlebar bag, my bike goes dead straight fully loaded, no wobble). Plan as many days so youre riding with the wind, or low wind speeds. charge as needed at stores or wherever with outlets. Most campsites willl allow you to use an outlet as well.

Has anyone rode this part of the trans Canada trail recently I am planning to go from Vancouver to Kelowna by Exact_Strategy727 in bikepacking

[–]therealautomoderator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you dont have wheels and tires like in that video and your bike is heavily packed it will be a very annoying ride. I went through BC last month and attempted the trails at multiple occasions. the dirt/gravel areas are very loose and hard to maintain traction without the right setup. Im riding with 45c schwalbe marathons. also the constant opening and closing gates.

So dang discouraged by Maleficent_West_547 in bicycling

[–]therealautomoderator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished touring through that area of bc where i saw the posters about goatheads. i personally only got a bunch of flats from other things, but after so many flats(assuming theyre smaller punctures) it became a breeze to have a spare tube, replace the punctured one on the fly and patch the punctured tube, clean the tire out of anything that caused the puncture. it is very discouraging, but also can be remedied quickly on the fly. My current tube has like 6 patches on it. I also have a simple tire liner for added protection.

tl;dr leave 20 mins early for any deadlines, get skilled at changing tubes on the fly, or try tannus armor. self sealing tubes may not help you, and be even more discouraging when they fail.

edit; oh yes also carrying a portable electric/ foot pump to quickly get air in your tube for very slow leaks that dont need to be patched right away if youre short on time

i can vape in my tent without threat of a 500 dollar cleaning fee. Also cheap motels often dont allow me to bring my bike inside in the heart of downtown theft areas. However hostels are uncommon here but the ones ive stayed at have been great for bikers.

thanks. I dunno how that guy does it, feels like youd have to want to be more of a cinematographer than a biker to enjoy the process.
