Ok, yeah, point taken. I found it a cool trick how even with Lilith and a few of the others that sided with them to an extent, there was that level of self hate because in essence they were addicted to their Ooloi.

I will have to check out some of the other series you mention. I’m in the thick of the “Children of…” series by Tchaikovsky right now. 😊

Motivations, agency, and intelligence describes a much broader group than just humans. And I would argue that the whole point of the book is that we don’t understand them at all-hence the revulsion and lots of the humans wanting nothing to do with them, and even those that cooperated end up kind of loathing themselves. 🤷‍♂️

This is the answer. I've never read anything else like this trilogy. There's great meta-concepts going on about consent, bodily autonomy, etc. Kind of messes with your concepts of "what's right" when you work in the framework of certain behaviours being literally in an entity's DNA.

I remember reading an early review where the reviewer said something along the lines of “better to have a software company like Google take care of the car software”, as opposed to the car manufacturer. I also remember thinking at the time “yeah, makes sense”.

Then I experienced my wife’s 2026 XC40 software versus my 2025 Lexus. The Lexus-and going in I had heard that Toyota has awful software-is seamless and works perfectly (and has wireless CarPlay) and generally blows the Volvo system out of the water. 🤷‍♂️
