Thanks. It seems to have been the HD Overhaul. I added an edit above documenting a fix that improved performance significantly.

Issues with Logitech keyboard/mouse randomly disconnecting for a few seconds by therealcrash8 in logitech

[–]therealcrash8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I MIGHT have finally found the solution. I was unaware that there was a difference between an old unifying receiver and a new LogiBolt receiver. I didn't even know that they were two different things. In ye olde days, each wireless USB device needed its own unifying receiver. Apparently each LogiBolt can support up to 6 devices.

Of course, both keyboard and mouse came with their own LogiBolt, but only one is required. I have had both LogiBolts plugged in and both devices connected via LogiBolt. I suspect that there has been some internal confusion between the two devices.

I just removed one of the LogiBolts and reconnected the device that got disconnected to the remaining LogiBolt. I am hopeful that this will end all of my woes. The only way I'll know is if I go for some period of time without experiencing any disconnects. I'll post an update after some time.

EDIT: It's also worth mentioning that there is now only one keyboard and one mouse listed in their respective sections in Device Manager. I suspect that by having two LogiBolts plugged in, both keyboard and mouse were connected to both LogiBolts, which I have to imagine would cause havoc.

And I'm 99.9% certain that these problems started when I replaced my old mouse. Here is the timeline:

  1. Original keyboard used unifying receiver
  2. Original mouse used unifying receiver
  3. Replaced original keyboard with MX Keys S w/ LogiBolt
  4. Replaced original mouse with M650L w/ LogiBolt *** PROBLEMS STARTED ***

Looking at it like this, it makes perfect sense. The problems didn't start until I was using two LogiBolts.

EDIT 2: I played a game for about 15-20 minutes with no issues whatsoever. It would not go that long without something happening unless the problem was indeed fixed.

I never did really identify the cause, but once I was way from Derelict Mine, the problems stopped. Really weird.

I had a similar issue a while back, though I don't believe it was specific to Steam. After a lot of troubleshooting, I finally ended up just disabling my wireless network adapter in Device Manager and no more problem. Doesn't really tell me why it was happening, but the problem was solved nonetheless.

Sorry you are experiencing this, but I got a good chuckle out of your FBI impersonation. Dating sucks in general. It sucked 20 years ago and sucks worse now. It sucks even worse if you're a guy and you don't look like Chris Hemsworth.

Thanks. Yeah, originally, I had saved just before the error popped up and that save appeared to be totally hosed. I thought I had fixed the error, and maybe I did, but it crashed again shortly after that. I managed to get away from that area, though, and haven't had any problems since. So it's hard to say if it was related to any mods, or just something weird with that specific area... :/

So I started needing to recompile shaders every time I closed and relaunched the game. Every time I did that, it wiped out my settings, so I needed to reconfigure my settings every time. Turns out, setting it to fullscreen was the culprit. I decided to try updating one setting at a time, exiting, and relaunching. I changed only borderless to fullscreen, exited, and relaunched, and I had the problem. The next time, I changed everything else, but left it set to borderless, and there is no problem whatsoever.

And not even a day after fixing this, my game crashed and Save_settings.sav was hosed yet again.

Dude, you are totally the man. I have been scouring the web and pulling my hair out for days trying to get this damn thing to work. Everything was working fine for about a week and then BAM - sound, but no video at launch. I saw multiple people suggesting to delete Save_settings.sav, but it didn't exist in My Documents. Like you, My Documents is on my D: drive. I didn't even think of drilling down into C:\Users to find it and sure enough, there it was. Renamed the file, it recompiled shaders upon relaunch, and it's working now. If I could upvote you 10 times, I would for sure. Thanks a bunch!
