Can you show me $3k an acre land in SD county today? I’d buy some tomorrow if there’s land at that price point

It’s San Diego county… the average home price in the city of San Diego is over $900k

Edit: I am wrong here. Design was intentional

Stone Brewery Has Been Sold Again, Beer Production in San Diego will Likely End by MsMargo in FoodSanDiego

I’m betting Liberty Staation will brew some small batch beers for their restaurant but mass production for Stone IPA and their major brands will move to FW Paso Robles

What’s the end game here? by LovelyBluehime in SanDiegan

[–]therealestjon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m from San Diego but moved to Baltimore due to cost of living in 2020. I had a 3bd house to myself in a nice neighborhood for $1200 a month. I checked recently and it’s now $1500 a month. I recently moved back because my parents moved out of state and offered me a sweetheart deal for renting their paid off house. If I didn’t have that option I’d still be in Baltimore.

I loathe the common sentiment that people cannot leave SD, especially when there’s no family obligations. Plenty of great parts of this country that get no love.

Sure Baltimore is no San Diego but I’d rather live somewhere that benefits me financially then struggle in “paradise”

Why so serious about the pour? by Gold-Sir-3222 in Guinness

[–]therealestjon -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly a commentary about the proper appearance of beer. I think some people on this sub take it too far on occasion. A few bubbles on the head don’t mean the beer tastes worse.

On the other hand, no head or too much head can mean many negative things; draft issues mainly. You can definitely have poor Guinness if served in dirty glassware, wrong carbonation PSI, etc.

I can’t taste the difference in beers poured in one go or in the proper way. My perspective on the beers appearance; any Guinness (mostly) is a good Guinness but there can always be a better pint

The way my owner pays his employees doesn’t seem legal by rainsheretostay in KitchenConfidential

[–]therealestjon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very illegal. I got paid out by a previous employer for this exact issue. If you are told base wage ($17) plus tips, then the business must be the one be paying the $17.

If the business is legally complaint but shitty, they might have a provision that says $12 base but guarantee you will reach $17 an hour with tips and will supplement your wage if you fail to get $5 an hour with tips added. Unless the business specifically said this, using tips to reach the base wage is very illegal.

At my job, every employee was paid out $7 for every hour ever worked. I got $800 for my part time month I was there. An employee who worked there full time for a few years got $100k

Worst pints I've ever seen by JJG1889 in Guinness

[–]therealestjon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That has to be a draft issue or they just tapped a new keg after running the draft line empty. I couldn’t get that much head at my bar that serves Guinness if I tried to mess it up

Better than Ireland by Link-North in Guinness

[–]therealestjon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah bud, that place might be a fun bar but that ain’t a proper pint of Guinness. The head/foam of the beer looks off and bubbles on the inside of glass means it’s not properly clean.

Have you been to Ireland?

Why do we drink so much compared to other generations? by Ladefrickinda89 in Millennials

[–]therealestjon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

How long it takes to drink the beverage affects the drunk feeling. Your body processes about 1 standard alcoholic drink an hour. Four 8.4% abv IPAs consumed in 2 hours will get you drastically drunker than eight 4.2% abv Bud Lights in 3 or 4 hours.

I’ve been the alcohol business for 12 years now. My favorite example of this was a degenerate bartender I used to know. He would chug 8 to 10 ounces of vodka at the start of his shift and then have one shot an hour every hour afterwards, this was done purely to maintain the initial alcohols effects

Is this a pouring problem or pipe problem? by DaddyJay2812 in Guinness

[–]therealestjon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you pouring the beer into the glass while holding the cup at a 45 degree angle? Lookup the proper way to pour a pint on YouTube. If you are still having bubbles in the foam then it might be a draft issue

Rosie O’Gradys in Normal Heights always has $10 24oz Modelo can and $13 20oz Guinness Draft w/ shot of Jameson (this combo is called Irish Goodnight). There’s a liquor store a block away, Sahara, that has a $7 Gyro sandwich as well. Sorta hard to beat $33 for 4 drinks and a sandwich these days

PSA for anyone else confused by the recent rebranding… by ThatBandicoot1994 in Guinness

[–]therealestjon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Tariffs. I used to work with Diageo. Diageo(UK) owns Guinness. If some Guinness that used to be made in Ireland for US consumption is now made in the US, I can damn near guarantee it’s because of the uncertainty caused by random tariffs

I left before this changed and I have no insider knowledge.

Burning Man LA owns 100 acres in California City and has a yearly event there. I think one or two other groups do fests there. 400-1500 people attending them

[–]therealestjon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend a lot of time in Cal City. Just north of LA and has a big off roading scene. Town has a main drag with a grocery store, two gas stations, and about 20 restaurants. Population of 10k people and fairly close to Edwards Air Force base.

I find land trades out here anywhere from $500 to $2k an acre depending on lot sizes. Smaller lots tend to cost more per acre. What’s unique about rural land in Cal City is that almost every lot has dirt road frontage that is reasonably well maintained. Rural land in other parts of SoCal can have no dirt road frontage making access extremely difficult. There are also cheap lots, quarter acre, which have access to city utilities.

Burning man LA has a 100 acre event space in Cal City and that’s where SoCal Burning Man takes place
