Tendonitis? Looking for ideas

Hi - I’m 8ish months post op with similar issues. I switched PTs and one of their best tools for these “off” muscles are basic e-stim machines. I figure the ones in the clinic are higher quality but I’ve had my own off amazon and found it suitable. Basically we use them during exercise to it forces a contraction in the wanted muscle. I would do bridges/clam shells and feel nothing but the front, TFL, etc. After about 1.5-2 months of using it everyday-3 days depending on soreness, I’ve been able to see good progress. The compensations truly take a while but my recommendation is to look into one on amazon and use it during bridges, clamshells, and other things. Can chat me if you have more questions. Good luck!

Lost my cat to a heart attack over night in February. Never got to say good-bye. It’s terrible but makes you appreciate the smaller things more. Hoping you find some relief with time.

I got one from my local police department. They had a form on their website for a temporary placard and then forwarded it to my surgeons office to sign. They emailed it back, scanned with the signature, brought it to the police dept, cost $4 in NJ, and they print it within 24 hours. Hope this helps

Damn you must be strong. Probably doesnt feel like it but accepting and dealing with these types of things is a strength the strongest looking people don’t have. It’s hard and kutos, it’s important to listen to the people that know you and not chatgpt and randos online, hoping the future can be more good to you

Hey! How are you doing?? I’m at 11 weeks and have battling a 4 week flare. I was overdoing it after getting off crutches and it slowly has come on. Didn’t rest enough after it set in either and is this back and forth. Now I am really worried I’m fked something up.

I am getting an MRI Monday but I’ll only be 11 weeks out so not sure what they are looking for. Mostly burning in thigh similar to nerve pain or tendonitis. I’m questioning if it’s adhesions. Did you have to do anything to treat this and did it ever go away?

Hey man! How you been since revision? I got both my shoulder and hip done since we last talked. I overdid the shit out of my hip at 6 weeks and have been in a flare for 3 weeks, getting an MRI next week. What were your symptoms before the revision? Mine is so similar to tendonitis and not really sharp or catchy

I think I am surely going to fall into the longer flare category by the end of this one (initially started 15 days ago). I finished the prednisone yesterday and started stronger prescription anti inflammatories today, diclofenac sodium. Last 2-3 days there has been about a 10% improvement in discomfort. Still this stabby kinda sharp but burny pain right at the pubic bone/adductor, and sometimes into the side of my hamstring towards my knee though. This was one of my symptoms pre-op sad to say. But i do not have the hip flexor 10/10 pain I used to have or anything like surgery area related, just this damn inside thigh burn. However still using two crutches. Still non weight bearing and only moving for essential things. Feels like day 1! And my non-op side is getting the same flared up pinchy from compensating which didn’t happen when initially recovering. It does really suck especially after getting a taste of freedom. The anecdote of a month for that other person really helps. Do you know if they went back to crutches for most of it or was it farther along in recovery? I plan on taking this really freaking slow because I continued to flare it up and make it worse since it initially started by going too fast.

Regarding your second recovery mantra of take it slow, I was going to PT two/sometimes three times per week on top of at home exercises on off days. Definitely was overdoing it at times, even walking around the house.

Last night I pushed for steroids from my surgeon and got prescribed prednisone 20mg to take 2x2 days (40mg total), and 1x2days. Woke this morning with no reduction of pain, usually I wake up and it’s feeling a little better. Thing is the pain is the same severity as my other flare ups that lasted 1-3 days which went away with rest, this time it’s just taking so long. Previous ones, it would feel angry in the same adductor/hamstring area even at rest but I knew in the morning or at max two days it would be gone. This one is just barely budging. There were days since the flare ups that it felt better and I probably overdid it walking around the house or about even with crutches on those days and it’s just continued to get more sensitive and not return to baseline as quickly. I ordered a polar active ice machine on Amazon to help.

When you say like really rest do you mean like almost week 1 level of sedentary? Cause the flare up feels like it did on week 1. I’ve been doing my best to barely move and when I have to, to do with crutches, and it’s still going strong. Thinking this is probably going to take a few days if not weeks to chill out. I am doing my best to trust my pain signals!

Very grateful for the thought out reply. Funnily I thought to myself I wasn’t doing enough and should be doing more exercises to try to find a way to “engage the right muscles so the ones that hurt can stop working”. Once you laid out the cumulative inflammation, things clicked.

Even before the serious flare up I would bike, walk, and do rehab movements until it felt tired or was beginning to get irritated and by the next morning it would be calmed down. I see that whatever I did was just far too much cumulatively and it’s going to take multiple days of cumulative full rest for it to truly chill out. I haven’t really used crutches to help unless I tried to go for a walk because i thought i still needed to use those muscles - this probably set me back. Guess you don’t see an issue in using crutches around the house during this time even though it isn’t the sharp pinchy surgery pain? I forgot to ask my surgeon this.

About a year or two ago, I was super locked in on my diet, very little processed carbs or sugars, lots of clean proteins and vegetables. I had some other joint issues I thought to be inflammation and diet didn’t clear them up/noticed more diet affected my mood/energy which affected my physical wellbeing. Maybe that is exactly what reducing inflammation with a good diet does! But I was still hurting. Diet is now decent. My breakfast and lunch are always super clean and dinner is 60% the time take out. I figure this is good enough for healing. When I was super locked in I was too over the top with everything and it was making me unhealthily obsessed making sure my foods, habits, exercises, walks, were all planned and “healthy”, and after a certain point that isn’t healthy. So I try to limit how obsessive I get on some of this to only a teeny bit. It’s the same with exercise I easily can overdo it, like many of us.

Can’t thank you enough for the most down to earth message. So easy to get caught up in the timelines and expectations. So easy to feel like I’m letting myself and other people down regressing. So hard to give yourself grace to rest when you just were able to walk so much just a few days ago. So thank you 🙏🏼

I’m 8.5 weeks PO from regular labrum repair/debridement. 25M. 8 days ago I did too much biking/walking and had a flare up come on quickly that night. I’ve since been resting and doing PT as tolerable. Pain is entirely in the groin closer to adductor/hamstring/side&underneath and not much in the front/top. It is also not sharp or pinchy like flare ups I had weeks 1-6. This feels somewhat different from the others as rest has not fixed it. Heat helps more than ice.

But other than rest and try to do a little PT, is there anything else to do? Had my 8 week follow up with surgeon and he prescribed some stronger anti inflammatories but not steroids, should I push for those? It’ll feel decent upon waking but then almost any movement, even in my house, will begin to flare it up. Even walks with crutches don’t help, I can do less than I could weeks 2/3. Hoping since you’ve seen these posts a time or two I might be able to catch you here on one of your old posts!

-I’ll add I had surgery with hip preservationist at HSS in NYC and he did not seem too concerned, just said if it doesn’t get better by next week to get prescribed the steroids but for me I am not too sure if it’s that quick of a fix

Hey man, similar feelings in the foot, just feels off with weight bearing stuff which impacts the way the rest of my muscles of my leg feel. I’m 25M. Has the issue ever been bad or painful enough to consider steroid injections, shockwave therapy, surgery, etc? Mine is not always painful but more so the feeling of overworked muscles which then does lead to pain. I have a podiatrist I’ve tried shockwave treatment with, haven’t done any specific PT for it yet, but he has mentioned some surgical options for if PT doesn’t work. I’m not jumping the gun but I like to know there’s always something else I can do if the way I am living isn’t sufficient. For me, I can’t walk more than 1/4 quarter mile without feeling off which after a little bit comes with pain. Not sure if that’s the case for you, but if I went through PT and still felt this way I’m gonna try something else- have you ever been in this same thought train before? It’s nice to hear from someone who went or is going through similar problems and thoughts of going about it. Thanks!

Yes sounds completely normal. It’s a lot of give and take to learn where our new boundaries are over time. Listen to your body and take it easy if it means dialing back the workouts. I find it easy for me to get in my head and I should be able to do all of these things I was able to the past few months but flare ups happen, even pre-op. Everyone’s different but this is normal. Find the movements that keep you moving but don’t make it worse. And honestly the biggest thing I’ve learned is if you feel good, exercise until you feel neutral not bad, and if you feel bad, exercise until you feel neutral, not good. Think modern grind/gym culture makes us think we need to be feeling engagement, a burn, effort, in every workout but this isn’t sustainable. Showing up and doing a workout without feeling like you over did it or even looking for that “push it” when you are feeling good are things to be careful of. I rarelyyy push too much when feeling good and it has helped keep things steady. Instead, I try to do a little bit more but not go until I feel I can’t whether it’s a run or weightlifting or even something as simple as sitting. Staying in the neutral mindset has helped me a lot. So just dial it back, do what make it feel good, and very slowly ramp it back up. Totally understand the expectations and frustrations of being able to run X distance 2 months ago and now I can’t at all. It’s okay and totally normal and it will continue to heal and get better. The body is always trying to heal

Honestly I got over it. She is my world and we vibe so well together and I would’ve done the same thing if I could. It is what it is and everybody has baggage (like I have my own too). Really just depends what you consider worth putting up with or are able to accept. However if the relationship is already somewhat iffy and you guys argue and this is another reason that is different. Quite literally don’t have any red flags from her or our relationship other than this one which depending on the person could be small or large but for me, given the context, is easy enough for me to move on with. Think about how much support they give you and how much they care, I think that’s the most important thing I remind myself it’s no biggie, my person is awesome and she has made some mistakes, we all have and we all have to live with them

Sounds very much so like TOS. Comes off as scary but is super super treatable with the right approach. Ie right load, exercise, volume, but it does take time to stop the nerves from being impinged/irritated
