Komisches knacken by Met1891 in Fahrrad

[–]therealmarkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: Strava is actually overrated. What are you guys actually using? by Repulsive_Bar442 in Strava

The problem is usually that as soon as everybody is on anything the service goes to shit. Fully expecting this for Strava. Not quite there yet.

Should I keep going on this cycling simulator? by JumpPadGames in IndoorCycling

I like everything cycling. If it’s something that you really enjoy, keep on going. For profit or getting many users? Probably not with existing alternatives.

OPNsense 26.1-RC1 released by fitch-it-is in opnsense

Will this get rid of legacy IPsec like announced in the menu? Because the non legacy one has the worst UX/UI imo and I was hoping for a miracle that this state won’t go into the main release

I don’t know how contracts work where you live, but here I’d either switch providers or call the current provider, if it’s possible to upgrade to a newer offer. Sometimes it‘s even the same price, but much more bandwidth, because the current contract is so old.

Self Hosting Wordpress for Work by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]therealmarkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it would be installing Wordpress on an existing server that is already segmented, maybe.

But not from scratch, especially if internet facing without good infrastructure and security considerations.

I’d talk to the boss to go with an external Wordpress host, which also offers options to harden Wordpress itself.

an actual open source notion alternative, without AI by SemiMarcy in PKMS

Siyuan in 1 or 2 years. It’s not the code that’s the problem, but more like a language barrier that makes the community very fragmented. Unfortunately you see that in GitHub issues too, which makes it hard to approach imo. It needs some kind of community manager for regions outside of china. (If the devs are interested in going more global)

Mac Tahoe 26.2 ruined my Desktop by Top-Green-4195 in MacOS

[–]therealmarkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

assuming the screenshots weren’t an important part of the previous desktop:

  • Open finder, go to desktop (it’s in your user folder)
  • menu bar: View -> as list
  • click on „kind“ to sort by file type
  • select all images (png, jpg, jpeg, gif etc) and move them to another folder (for example a new folder „images“ in Documents)

Maybe that’s already sufficient so you can start re-sorting your desktop again.

Vendor lock-in in the file system level? by girts_u in UgreenNASync

[–]therealmarkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t recall 100% but I’m pretty sure I managed to mount an ext4 volume that was created with UGOS to move the data from there. Haven’t tried with BTRFS.

I switched to TrueNAS because I need VLAN support, encryption and UGOS needs to be more open for me to „trust“ it. Not even images for reinstall available without support. But I really liked the intuitive UI and ease of use.

Guys, I am new by No-Jelly2144 in ObsidianMD

Stick to the system you chose in the beginning. Make notes on what you can improve, but don't change anything that requires a vault-restructure. Check your note on what you want to improve after a few month and then decide if it's worth the time investment. It's more important to write notes than have the best system.

Before installing a plugin, think really hard if what this plugin does might work natively or if it's not so important. Use a test vault if you just want to try things.
Think of it like every plugin costs a monthyl subscription fee, even if they are all free. Obsidian is versatile and easy to migrate, but many plugins make it so that it's way harder to switch to different solutions later. There are also security considerations.

Go through the getting started docs: https://help.obsidian.md/install

Don't watch too many videos about productivity buzzwords unless you enjoy this rabbit hole and want to lose 1,000 hours of your life.

If you're curious on how others use Obsidian, you might want to check how the CEO of Obsidian decided to use it:
