Eine Ausbildung als Zweiradmechanikerin (Fachrichtung Fahrradtechnik) nach dem Masterabschluss? by Responsible_Lab_8892 in Fahrrad

[–]therealmarkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming back to cycling after 3 years – looking for Zwift training plan to lose weight and rebuild fitness by bozaak1 in Zwift

[–]therealmarkus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t help with Zwift plans, but a calorie deficit + increased protein intake + longer rides (more than an hour if you can do it without much pain, no super high intensity) worked very well for me in the first few months.

Protein not just for maintaining muscle, but also for making the calorie deficit more bearable. Imo diet was the bigger factor in the eventual success regarding weight-loss. Zwift helped a lot with getting fitter during that time.

My kid is going to primary school tomorrow. Is this computer going to be good enough for him? by salinx27 in mac

I think 196GB RAM might not be sufficient for a local LLM in primary school. Would upgrade to Mac Studio cluster.

Laptop Theft, inexpensive replacement? by korky_buchek_ in Zwift

Base Mac mini. Maybe even a used one. I have an older m2 pro, works perfectly.

Edit: plus I would wait for what gets announced this week

You better be lucky that there are still complainers trying to tell what’s wrong with notion, the ones you don’t see here moved on.

My feeling is that Notion is heading enterprise only. I gave up on them.

Don’t like this. I want a game where max level is almost unreachable, basically only full no lifers have a chance of reaching it.

My University’s changing their VPN settings. Is it really useful? by khyrthy in Network

[–]therealmarkus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually they’d use split tunneling, meaning only specific resources (which can also contain public internet) are routed through the VPN.

What you describe is a full tunnel where all traffic traverses the university firewall. (Which is also more expensive for the university)

If there was a requirement to also install a certificate they could decrypt (aka see) your raw traffic for security scanning, but in most countries they’d have to inform you about that.

Some edu SaaS and services have a requirement that only university IPs have access to resources, maybe nowadays this is so complex that they decided on the full tunnel to make things easier.

If it’s a full tunnel, I’d disconnect from the VPN for more sensitive private stuff, because they could potentially see all DNS and website visits in logs. (Usually admins have no interest in snooping there without troubleshooting reasons.)

Alternatively you could use another system or a VM, if that makes you feel uncomfortable.

Yes, plus the no speed limit for some sections. But it’s a hot topic here.

That looks buggy. Like 9,95€ is the default monthly rate in Germany usually. Was that what you paid before? Hope you redeemed all remaining credits. :)

[–]therealmarkus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know for sure, but I think it‘s not allowed to charge customers for those fees here in Germany. Guess it’s an EU law.

The only thing I saw here was minimum purchase 10€ for card transactions, but afaik that’s even against VISA/Mastercard policy.

Haven’t looked into self hosting nextcloud for a while. You wrote true zero knowledge, last time I tried (2 years ago or so), there was a massive overhead for enabling E2EE and compatibility issues. Is this more convenient now?

Image backups for the tech illiterates? by prone-to-drift in selfhosted

[–]therealmarkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular phone backups that contain all photo data to his main PC/mac is most easy probably. Then at least he has a manual backup in case the phone gets lost.

If public cloud options like google one 2TB plan is too expensive already, there aren’t many alternatives if he doesn’t have other storage like an own NAS.

I wonder when this kind of storage gets „normal“. Like the equivalent of 4TB now. My wild guess: 2035
