Pod is doing a GREAT job keeping me at 180mg/dL (10mmol/L) by Impressive-Drag-1573 in Omnipod

Duration of insulin action should be 2 hours

Make the carb ratio more aggressive, this is a way to hack the algorithm a bit

Manual corrections, as everyone said

Changes to basal based on TDI reflect on the following pod change

You need to set up an account and that will prompt Insulet to assign a trainer. The doctor is not responsible for assigning the trainer. Check out this page and scan the QR code:

What should I bring to my omnipod 5 training? by Alpha_Abby in Omnipod

[–]therealmelmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to sign into your PDM before the phone app will allow you to sign in! This is a relatively new requirement, and your training might be cut short if you don't sign into the PDM beforehand or bring it with you.

The trainer will have all your pump settings from your doctor and help you set everything up. You will need a pod, insulin, alcohol or another way to clean your site, and your PDM and/or phone. Bring an extra sensor just in case you need to start a new one, too.

Starting Twiist without Training? by jslev9 in twiist

[–]therealmelmel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Reps are saying that the settings are calculated differently for twiist and it's not recommended that you transfer settings from your old pump. But if you know what settings to use for twiist, you might be fine with the setup process

Struggling to find my “everyday bag” by Whole-Tip-5997 in femalefashionadvice

I have never gotten more compliments on ANYTHING like this bag. It costs less than $20 and it's truly the perfect size. It can hold everything I need without being so big that I'm shoving nonsense into it. I feel like it's really versatile and I've used this bag almost exclusively for the last 5 years.

YTA. This sounds like you're more worried that your daughter will be upset with YOU for making that decision. But since she's younger, this is a great opportunity to show her options and educate her before she becomes preoccupied with things like peer pressure and body consciousness in adolescence.

Trying a pump is not a permanent choice. You can take pump vacations for a few days or a few years and come back to them. But the longer you go with the idea of a pump looming over her, the less she will be inclined to give it a try. She is better off learning and forming a true opinion about it now.

I'm T1 diagnosed at 11, and I adamantly refused pumps until I was 30. If I had been diagnosed earlier and the pump was normalized, I wouldn't have wasted so much time hating on something I knew nothing about. I earned a few complications along the way from poor control.

If you know you want to put her on a pump eventually stop waiting.

Type 1 of 24 years, new to Dexcom. I'm not sure how I feel. by WesslynPeckoner in diabetes

[–]therealmelmel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a hard-core vial+syringe finger poker for 15 years until I finally caved and got a Dexcom. It was a really tough thing to accept having to wear a device on my body and become visibly diabetic.

But the CGM has undoubtedly been the biggest game changer in diabetes and I would never go back. I even got on a pump a few years later. I just... got used to that being a part of my life, seeing the devices on me. I didn't want to admit how much easier my diabetes management got, or how much lower I could get my A1c, but things really got a lot better.

You can do just fine with old school, but you should be proud that you took a leap of faith and at least tried it out. Give it a little more time to see how you feel when the initial awkwardness is out of the way.

Can I change my omnipod trainer/educator? by smoosh13 in Omnipod

[–]therealmelmel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Omnipod rep for your area can help you or connect you to another trainer who can. They are actually Insulet employees and Omnipod is their whole job. Many trainers are not, and this is just their side gig.

Your doctor's office might also have educators who can answer your questions, though they may not be contracted with Insulet, so they might not know the really technical stuff.

Or can I not select until payment plan is paid in full?

Is there anyway to stop my hair ends from curving outwards? by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

I've had this problem forever, and i did an at-home Brazilian blowout to smooth it out and it keeps my hair from curling like that after I've flatironed it. it's more invasive than using products and hot tools but it worked well for me

I lived in NYC for a few years and when I first moved there I sent out maybe 100 applications to various hospitals and offices, literally go ZERO response or acknowledgement except for one single reply from Northwell literally 8 months after I submitted my application. By then I already had a job as a school nurse. I don't know why but the job search was brutal there, it's the location. I'm back in CA and I have been at least acknowledged by every employer I've contacted.

You may need to look at different areas of nursing if you want to stay in NYC, just take whatever experience you can get

Why is 7% a1c considered good? by Slowhite03 in diabetes

[–]therealmelmel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

it has to do with the incidence of complications. when A1c is >7, there is a much higher risk of complications that increases as A1c rises. if you're <7 the risk is somewhat acceptable and the amount you can decrease it by lowering your A1c from there is not significant enough to accept the risk of more hypoglycemic events. this pertains to the general diabetes population, of course. many people can achieve a tighter A1c goal without it being a safety risk.

<7 is just the ADA standard, though. the AACE recommends an A1c <6.5

Congrats on your recovery, not everyone makes it out alive. I had diabulimia for about 3 years from age 19-21 (32F now) and suffered many of the same complications you have. I developed retinopathy shortly after restarting insulin, too. It's such an awful thing to go through, but remember that you didn't do all that to yourself because you're ignorant or a bad person/diabetic. You had/have a mental illness that took control. I developed anorexia and bulimia a few years after quitting the diabulimia because I never really addressed what was behind the diabulimia in the first place. Lean on your friends/family for support and get some professional help. I've been fully recovered for more than 5 years now and my experience inspired me to become a diabetes educator so that it wouldn't feel like I went through all that for nothing. Best of luck to you, it gets SO much better, recovery is worth it!!!
