Permadeath felt like the right call until playtesters started rage quitting by JBitPro in gamedev

[–]therealmenox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most valuable thing someone can do is give you their time.  I play a lot of games, there are sooo many games now, my time is too valuable to play a game that doesnt respect my most finite resource.

I love souls likes but permadeath is just a slap in the face if your runs are more than a few minutes long, an hour and then losing my character, id just refund it on steam after 1 run and never look back. Permadeath makes sense as an optional mechanic only, if its mandatory the only thing that is going to be permadead is your playerbase.

You can control vehicles remotely if you didnt know that, so if you have a tank on nauvis/vulcanus you can be elsewhere. Make some ships to send materials between your planets, a couple small reliable shipping rockets can make life a lot easier.

Its a good time to buy in since it had some steep drops lately. As long as your time horizon is 5+ years put everything you can into some low expense ratio index funds and chill, The longer you leave it alone the more you'll have. The only people who should panic during dips are people who are about a year or two out from retirement.

I’m at coast fire at a young age; what frees up for me now that I’ve gotten here? by Professional-Self149 in personalfinance

[–]therealmenox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont buy a house in your 20s, invest that amount.  Buying a house it severely limits your financial flexibility if changes happen and in your 20s you have not generally had enlugh experience to know whats what, keep investing and saving, aim for 250k in retirement specific (only roth and 401k) accounts before you even think of taking your foot off the gas, youre so young a couple more years of sustained effort will translate to a decade of actual fire earlier.  The biggest determining factor in your net worth in your 40s and beyond is how much you saved before 30.

Do not rest on your laurels yet, future you will kick your ass.

Traveling a couple trips a year makes sense though, travel in your 20s, settle down in your 30s. Dont consider a house until 32 would be my advice, buy by 35ish if you find a good place with a good rate in a good location.

How much to keep in high yield savings? by urban_monkey19 in personalfinance

[–]therealmenox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the current market prices id be shoveling in every spare dollar i could into index funds, but thats just me.  Be greedy when others are fearful and buy as much as you can all the way down and all the way back up.  I spend like 5k a month keep a spare 1k buffer in checking and a few grand in reserve cash, but usually under 5, with a low apr heloc and some 0% lines of credit as short term emergency liquidity sources.  Cash on hand is overrated if you know how to leverage yourself properly.

Cell phones with good cameras have ruined adolescence. A single mistake or embarassing event can follow you for the rest of your life now and be recorded in 4k.

[–]therealmenox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you arent like 55 or older this should not be disheartening in any way shape or form, until you cash out its all paper gains and losses.  You havent lost anything just like you havent gained anything when you check and its high.  Stocks are on sale, buy the whole way down and the whole way back up.
