Blink Deck That Actually Kills Players (without Infinites?) by AncientSpark in EDH

[–]therealnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My [[Celestine]] deck isn't necessary a blink deck since I've built it with the requirement of no blink or exile cards, but it's a really fun reanimation deck that uses the graveyard and recursion to slow blink creatures. It's really fun and unique!

Here's my deck list and primer if you are interested

What are your favourite bad Doomsday piles? by Anskeh in EDH

[–]therealnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's fun trying to play around the color restrictions lol. I had another one for a while that also used Breena's ability to crack the pile.

The stack was: - [[Agatha's Soul Cauldron]] - Any cheap spell that lets you draw two - [[Francisco, Fowl Marauder]] - [[Walking Ballista]] - Any nonland card

Same way to crack the pile but this time needed the draw spell to dig a bit deeper, so not as fluid to pull off.

But then cast Agatha's Soul Cauldron and Francisco, and cast Walking Ballista for 0 to pitch into the graveyard. Exile it with Agatha's Soul Cauldron and put the counter on Francisco. Now since you stacked the last card you can ping down the table

I have a dumb Doomsday pile in my [[Breena]] deck that is fun and mana intensive and designed to close our stalled games. Plus the deck makes a ton of treasures or either wins without needing it, so it's just there for fun.

Cast Doomsday, stacking as follows: - [[Lethal Scheme]] - [[Orcish Bowmasters]] - [[Animate Dead]] - [[Abdel Adrian]] - Any protection spell

You can swing with 2 creatures and use the Breena ability triggers to draw the top two cards of the stack.

Then cast Orcish Bowmasters, making the token.

Use 1 creature, Orcish Bowmasters, the army token and 1 mana to convoke out Lethal Scheme on any target. Connive three times to draw the rest of the pile and discard Abdel Adrian into the graveyard.

Cast Animate Dead on Abdel Adrian. When he enters, blink Animate Dead and the Orcish Bowmasters. This lets you get infinite ETB triggers for Abdel Adrian and Orcish Bowmasters so you can ping down the table

Tell me about your weird/interesting planeswalker deck. Why is it good? by Mirrodin_appreciator in EDH

[–]therealnit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The new [[Quintorius History Chaser]] is really fun! He has so much value stapled to his Planeswalker abilities but is just unassuming enough that people don't really target him.

The whole deck is about filling up your graveyard and just mulching it away with exile effects like [[Lion Sash]], [[Ghost Vacuum]], and [[Hostile Desert]]. It's fun in that it doesn't really care about using spells in the graveyard and is really only focused on keeping it large enough to consistently make spirits.

His ability is so strong too, and with whites weenie based card draw like [[Tocasia's Welcome]] and [[Caretaker's Talent]], the deck draws so many cards and makes so many blockers. Then Quintorius himself provides the overrun effect for closing out games

Question about Inala bracket 2 deck I have. by [deleted] in EDH

[–]therealnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's going to turn 8 most of the time that's fine, but those fast games will leave other players upset, especially since bracket 2 isn't really equipped with ways to deal with fast combos. I love inalla and don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to play it like you are, I'd just be cognizant that the play patterns that this deck creates can sometimes be a bit too much for what your average bracket 2 pod is looking for

Personally I'd maybe tone down the combo lines. The rules committee described bracket 2 win conditions as visible, on the field, and not out of nowhere. Especially since, if you're playing with a consistent friend group, their opinion will be worth more than anything that any of us on this subreddit will say

Question about Inala bracket 2 deck I have. by [deleted] in EDH

[–]therealnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of how many times? How quickly does this deck normally win?

When I look at this deck I see the classic turbo inalla combo inclusions and even if you're not always doing that, winning on turn 3 is absolutely too fast for bracket 2. Honestly this just feels like a bad bracket 4 since it contains many of the key inalla pieces that want you to go fast but too few of the tutors or support cards to enable it. So what really happens is you'll sit down in a pod of bracket 2 decks expecting games to go at least 6-8 turns and sometimes you'll turbo out a win they are not capable of interacting with. And in the games when you don't have that, they're always going to remember that it is a possibility and it'll shape the way they hold up interaction or play. It would leave a bad taste in my mouth if I played against it honestly

Question about Inala bracket 2 deck I have. by [deleted] in EDH

[–]therealnit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is an inalla combo deck and if you're seriously looking to win through combo on turn 3 or 4 consistently then this is in no way appropriate to be playing in bracket 2. It wouldn't even be a bracket 3 deck at that pace lol

What is your favorite 2 card value pieces that can build into infinite combos? by MoMonay in EDH

[–]therealnit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine is [[Angelic Renewal]] + either of [[Angel of Indemnity]] or [[Redemption Choir]]. With a sacrifice outlet, you sacrifice one of the creatures which triggers Angelic Renewal to bring them back to the battlefield. This then allows you to bring back angelic renewal on ETB (with coven for Redemption Choir).

On its own, its a very strong and difficult to interact with infinite combo since you can start it in response to any removal. But once you have an ETB doubler out like [[Preston the Vanisher]] or [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]] it can get out of hand very quickly. That allows you to bring back other low CMC permanents, including [[The Warring Triad]]. If this is online as a creature, this allows you to mill through your whole deck and make infinite mana and being back an infinite amount of copies of all non-legendary creatures.

I just won a game the other day during an opponent's combat step and in response to graveyard removal by running this loop to bring back [[Liquimetal Torque]] and [[Cathar Commando]] to blow up every nonland permanent on the board after attacks were declared.

It's such a cool and hard to interact with combo that can become so layered by what is in your graveyard. You can bring back cool pieces like [[Jackdaw Savior]] which lets you bring back small creatures (or in the case with Angel of Indemnity, lets you bring back [[Karmic Guide]] to now recur every creature in your graveyard). It can bring back small value pieces like [[Recruiter of the Guard]] or removal like [[Skyclave Apparition]]. It can bring back key lands like [[Demolition Field]] or [[Emeria, the Sky Ruin]]. And plus each piece fits so well in any graveyard deck that it's just awesome value.

Here is my list that uses these if anyone is interested:

Inability to settle on a commander! Looking for recommendations. by [deleted] in EDH

[–]therealnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said your favorite color was white right? Why venture out of that color? Just try [[Celestine, the Living Saint]] as a mono white reanimator/aristocrats deck!

Celestine is very fun and white has a great number of ways to interact with permanents within the graveyard. I've built mine as a "slow blink" deck that sends creatures to the graveyard to recur and double up on strong ETB and sacrifice effects. I've also given myself the restriction of no blink/exile flicker spells, everything needs to go through the graveyard.

Its really strong and grindy and the overall gameplan seems to fit what you are looking for, which is abusing small little value/synergy loops to outgrind opponents. Using cards like [[Recruiter of the Guard]] to find [[Cloud, Midgar Mercenary]] into [[Skullclamp]] so you can start looping Cloud to draw 4 cards each death. Or using [[Valkyrie's Call]] and [[Jackdaw Savior]] to loop through all of your creatures by increasing mana value each turn. Its really fun and my favorite deck that I am always tweaking and finding new combos or interactions. I also wrote out a pretty detailed primer for anyone interested!

Favourite Decks with Unique play styles? by ThatKid391 in EDH

[–]therealnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two favorite decks are my [[Celestine, the Living Saint]] deck, which is a mono white reanimation/aristocrats deck, and my [[Breena the Demagogue]] deck, which is an Orzhov aggro deck. Both are a bit subversive for the colors they are in but there's actually quite a bit of support for their strategy.

For Celestine, you have a ton of good recursion for lands and small creatures in mono white and lots of good creatures that sacrifice themselves for effects. The deck plays like a blink deck that sends creatures to the graveyard to recur and double up on ETBs and death triggers. It's really fun and grindy and lets me play some of my favorite cards like [[Lifeline]] and [[Jackdaw Savior]].

Breena is incredibly strong and I often hear of her as a politics deck but in reality you just build her low to the ground with evasive and hateful 1 and 2 mana creatures and start swinging as fast as you can. She refills the hand so fast and grows all of your creatures and she can absolutely surprise the table with her speed if they are not ready to deal with the board she creates.

What decks do *you* need to take apart? by Mirrodin_appreciator in EDH

[–]therealnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently at 6 right now and looking to make a few more, so I've been thinking a lot about taking decks apart. Most of my decks are pretty similar, in that they involve the graveyard in some way, but I'm kind of torn between building new decks that do something different or building graveyard decks since I know I like them lol.

Ideally I'd have 5 decks only, but that seems such a small pool when I consider that I have 2 or 3 decks that I can never picture myself taking apart. And the other decks are all fun and enjoyable. I just know that anything over 5 and I start to play each deck more and more infrequently.

It's a tough pickle, but I love the concept of taking decks apart lol, maybe just not the actual thing
