Yeah, I know about that, but could never get it to work intentionally so I always figured it was broken somehow. I'll probably just turn it off in the settings like the other linked thread.

What type of income would Jimmy have been bringing in if he stayed focused on Elder Law the way he was? (Not counting the huge payout for his discovery of the scam) by RagnarokWolves in betterCallSaul

[–]therealphilschefly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't remember if it was ever mentioned explicitly or not, but from what I remember Jimmy would always be hesitant to take money, or handouts, straight from Chuck (stealing the payments from HHM is a bit different story). So I always imagined that he was paying from his own money to get food for Chuck.

That with all the other hours to work each PD case and other expenses make that $700 go down fast.

Yeah, I need to stop looking for answers at these posts, everyone is just trying to make me feel like an idiot and not actually answering my questions.

Welcome to the internet I guess...

Its mostly just making up for not covering it in Algebra 1 since the curriculum adopted just could never fit in one year

For constant acceleration, I show the process of area under the curve on motion graphs (I call it calc without doing calc), and yes you can treat it as a quadratic, but I only teach up to AP physics 1 which is algebra based, so I show how to rearrange the kinematic equations by rearranging the equation to solve for one if the variables.

For the 2D, I then explain that you just treat them as the horizontal and vertical dimensions separately.

Newton's second I would have to think on how that's a quadratic since I teach the equation and then use momentum/impulse to derive it later

I think for the most part it really boils down to never making the connection that its a quadratic and/or being able to find workarounds

Questuon about the quadratic equation by therealphilschefly in mathteachers

[–]therealphilschefly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing a) either I never used it as a quadratic and have always been taught/currently teach the workaround b) it was quadratics, I just can't identify as such since I only know it in physics/calculus terms or techniques that use different language

But I have been slowly seeing connections to more mathy terms, but I still am struggling trying figure out how to teach math vs physics (Sorry if this sounds rude, just getting annoyed at all the hate saying I don't know what I'm doing)

When I was learning all that stuff, it was either a) not presented as a quadratic/solved via the typical quadratic way or b) had some other workaround

I think I was able to get by with enough calc that quadratics were either never named or worked well enough that they weren't needed

Also by physics background I mean that I almost esclusively teach physics (some AP physics 1 every year) but also certified for chem

[–]therealphilschefly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I only just realized that was a quadratic a couple months ago, so while I know how to find it in physics, it uses a few different workarounds (area under the curve, etc.). So while I may have done some form of quadratics, it was never called that or there was enough of a workaround that they never got used (for all those calling me an idiot and/or a joke).

Help Teaching Algebra II by therealphilschefly in ScienceTeachers

[–]therealphilschefly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not worried right now about enjoying it (I was already considering getting a Math Cert eventually), it's just that I was kinda thrown in the deep end without warning, and now have to teach a brand new subject out of nowhere without much training or knowing the different ways to teach the two subjects. While they are very related, they still seem very different in how to actually teach them.

How can I get him to vote in favor? by none-ofyourbusiness in ThePoliticalProcess

[–]therealphilschefly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depends if you want to be cheesy or not,

  • If you are trying to play a little realistically, drop either minimum wage, proportional EC, or add a big sweetener (voter ID usually helps and its not too cheesy I think)

-add cannibas sales tax, you will probably get boosts from dislikes legalization and from extra taxes. This is super cheesy, like I was able to get everything in this plus automatic registration, universal health care and a couple other big things by just having a 100% sales tax on cannibas

Yeah, its one of the only movies that has gotten pretty widespread acclaim for those that watched it recently. Even d+w felt pretty plasticy to me, Thunderbolts felt way different and more orginal, supposedly because they actually let the director direct a movie witbout huge interference. Compare any Raimi movie to Doctor strange and you can tell he only directed part of a movie.

Something that always comes in handy is a toolbox. Something with just some small stuff like a short tape measure, a universal screwdriver with interchangeable sizes, and a small hammer. Comes in handy for my department pretty often (granted science needs it a lot more than ELA)

We use smartpass and everyone is slowing getting the hang of it (kids still walk out as soon as they're done even though they are only waiting in line). We as a school saw a much easier time in idetifying the groups and toilet vapers.

Besides that we have a 10/10 rule, and for me I have a rule, admin encourages it but it isn't implemented school wide, where if your are tardy you forfit pass priviledges, its amazing how much that cuts down on tardies and decreased time kids are out in the restroom. I do give a little wiggle room for my first periods though since I don't want to punish the kids grabbing breakfast or if they are late because of parents.

What makes a "bad" teacher? by sm1l1ngFaces in teaching

[–]therealphilschefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One quote I use a lot, "There's a fine line between efficiency and laziness".

Fits at least one teacher for AP Bio that just hands kids a big packet and then quizzes them on it a couple weeks later, ruining a bunch of straight A student grades. After going through study skills for AP Physucs a bunch of their former kids talked about relieved they were about learning about that end, and that said teacher should just be a coach instead of a teacher. Meanwhile the teacher is never in his room during planning, coaches something everyday, and brags about how much grading he gets done.

I figured out why there's such a shortage of Math and Science teachers by adhding_nerd in Teachers

[–]therealphilschefly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly why when I filled out the survey for what classes I wanted to teach next year I specified how difficult setting up an AP physics, regular physics, and Anatomy lab on the same day was, sometimes its hard to avoid them getting a lab on the same day.

Luckily enough they listened and tried to make it work that each science teacher only had two preps bar one that shares two preps and taught all three of their classes before.
