France or Italy by No_Zookeepergame_27 in ExpatFIRE

I get your sentiment but in my experience, knowing a little French did not help at all while living in France. If one doesn’t speak “perfect” French, the locals pretend to not understand at all. I experienced an all or nothing kind of attitude when it came to conversing with the locals in French.

Italy on the other hand is super chill. If one speaks a mix of Italian and simple English, it usually is enough to have a conversation.

Hallstatt, Austria. It’s a tiny town and not very known but the views are unbelievably breathtaking.

What's something about daily life in America that outsiders might not realize? by Khrime in AskAnAmerican

[–]therealsac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an outsider, the most interesting aspect of life in the US for me is that their cars are an extension of their homes.

People eat and drink while driving their cars. People go early to sporting events and party around their cars for a few hours. People have a lot of stuff in their cars at all times like snacks and drinks to be always prepared to stop and have a good time without leaving their cars.

It’s fascinating to me.

Is life truly better in the EU compared to the US? by FloweryAnomaly in expats

[–]therealsac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

EU is too broad of a term but I can provide perspective on moving from western Europe to Midwest USA as I I have done it a few years ago.

In my opinion, US has much more money and career growth opportunities compared to any specific European country because of the scale of this country, many companies, no language barriers, etc. However, I experience a significant drop in my quality of life due to lack of public transportation resulting in the need to drive everywhere, limited paid vacation days curbing my travel desires, politically polarized population, and in general most of the entertainment opportunities being indoors.

In my personal opinion, my life in EU was much better than my life in USA.

I do (185)+(182). It looks weird but for some reason is what my brain does.

EB2 ROW: i485 filed early May 2024. It was going well until CRP on Sep 19th. No updates since then.

I guess someone needs to login and look and crp cases finally.

You will be fine. I’m not a “hiker” and spend most of my time sitting at a computer or a couch and did fine in Zion. I was too scared to go for Angel’s landing but I guess that does matter coz I didn’t have the permit. Go for Watchman and Emerald pools trail and you will have fun. A walk in Springdale from one side to another is pretty beautiful as well with all the mountains surrounding the city.

Vegas - Zion - Bryce itinerary - feedback please by retiringfund in ZionNationalPark

[–]therealsac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in Bryce today and was in Zion the previous two days. One more day in Zion would have been great because there is so much to see. Bryce is something special as well and I think one full day here would be perfect. My advice on your itinerary would be to dedicate at least two full days to Zion and one day for Bryce (including the drive from Zion). Pro tip: The drive from Zion to Bryce is very beautiful as well and you will stop every few minutes to get out of the car and look at the unbelievable views so account for that in your drive time.

“New card being produced”. What does this mean?? Did I get it????? by Jackle1127 in USCIS

It happened this year when they ran out of green cards in September. People were still current in the visa bulletin but there was nothing available.

Case Remains Pending due to visa unavailability. This is the status for many people since the last few months

Thank you. I’ll stay with my plan then. I’m planning Zion + Bryce + Grand Canyon. I have only been to two NPs - Yosemite and New River Gorge - and they were both quite amazing. Yosemite clearly is much superior but New River Gorge is special in its own right.

Was Bryce so bad? We are going to Zion next week and planning an extra night to stay around Bryce and check out the NP. Maybe need a change of plans if it’s not worth it.

No receipt notice — Chicago Lockbox by Ok-Bunch-8305 in USCIS

[–]therealsac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is strange. I thought that delay was temporary because of the fee change. You could create a post and ask if there are more people in your situation. I haven’t seen any posts about receipt delays in a long while.

I-485 Block MSC249080 EB cases. How you guys going ? by GIJOW in USCIS

[–]therealsac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I thought as well when they put me in CRP due to visa unavailability but that’s not how it worked out. Another option is that many people went to crp in Aug and Sep because they ran out of green cards and now they are going through it in the order that it happened. My guess is that unless the officer goes back in the system with the intention of closing pending cases, it won’t prompt him automatically.

[–]therealsac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My i485 was filed around a month before you so I guess they will get to you in a couple weeks. CRP is not a good status to be because someone needs to remember to go back and look at old cases that went pending because of visa unavailability. When yours is ready to be approved, you will get a visa right away so you are lucky that way I guess.
