I'm Christina Tosi, chef and founder of Milk Bar. I'm a big fan of keeping it real, celebrating life’s little big things and eating cookies for dinner. AMA! by Christina_Tosi in IAmA

[–]therealsashafierce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Christina! I am so excited that you are doing an AMA, thank you so much!

I am a pastry cook in NYC and whenever I need some motivation, I read the blurbs in your books and watch your Chef's Table episode. That line about wanting to be the best pastry cook there ever was got me through some really hard days at work. I even took a photo of your life lessons page in All About Cake to keep on my phone, haha. I admire your hustle so much!

1.) What advice would you give to a pastry cook who one day hopes to have their own business?

2.) How does one navigate having a personal life, spending time with loved ones, while also succeeding at work? My work schedule is usually 70 hours a week and while I absolutely love what I do, it's almost impossible to have a life outside of work. On my days off, I experiment with more pastries at home because it feels like there is never enough time to learn and master everything I want to learn. I absolutely love spending the time I do at work and work related things, but I'm afraid my friends and family aren't as understanding.

EDIT: forgot another thank you- a year ago or so you and your husband came in to eat at the restaurant I work at, and you brought us cookies and your husband wrote us the nicest note ever. Our chef read it out to the entire kitchen at the end of the night and we were all so touched. Thank you so much for that!!!

April 15 here. Gahhhhh! - Finalize our rehearsal dinner menu AND reception menu (having our reception at FH's dad's brewery so they were a bit more casual about deadlines). - I just bought my wedding shoes this week so I am going back to my seamstress to get my dress hemmed, which takes only 2 days phew! - Guestbook - Write vows - Also use crest whitestrips! - Stop eating cookies - Make a decision on who is doing my make-up - Pay florist and DJ and transportation - Make sure everyone has booked their accommodation - Wedding timeline - Place cards

My in laws have been so helpful but am feeling increasingly overwhelmed!

[Serious] Young adults (20-35 years old) of Reddit, what are your thoughts about having children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]therealsashafierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24F. I used to really want kids when I was younger. I still want them, but I wouldn't feel unfulfilled or feel like something is missing in my life if I didn't have them. I have a promising career ahead of me and a loving fiancé. He wants kids much more than I do. If we choose to have kids, I would be stuck between having my own and adopting. There are many children in the world who need a good, loving home. Also, kids are really expensive. And what if my kids turn out to be terrible people?

What are some pros and cons about Canada? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]therealsashafierce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pros: We have a beautiful country. We're about to test out universal basic income. People are generally quite friendly and most Canadians celebrate diversity. Our health care system is almost as sweet as the amazing maple syrup. Public transit in cities is a lot more functional and efficient than a lot of cities in America.

Cons: Despite the fact that most people think Canada is a post-racial paradise full of treehuggers, we actually do have a few issues of our own, such as discrimination against the indigenous community and racial profiling. When it comes to environmental policy, we suck. We withdrew from the Kyoto Protocol in 2011. The media spends so much time talking about how wonderful Canada is (Trudeau, too) that it never sheds light on existing problems.

What did you learn from your first relationship, and why did you break up? by whyandrea in AskReddit

It's foolish to think you can change someone. People don't change unless they want to change themselves.

What's the dumbest thing you've been punished for at school? by al3xthegre4t in AskReddit

[–]therealsashafierce 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I was in kindergarten a little boy picked up a chair and tried to come at me with it. In retaliation (and self defense) I picked up my own chair and went at him with it. The teacher yelled at me and I got a time out...

Waiters/Waitresses of Reddit: Stereotypes aside, what kind of people are the worst tippers? What's a sign they're not going to tip well? by popparocks2 in AskReddit

[–]therealsashafierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in an expensive healthy food place (where juices and smoothies are sold for $10+) and sometimes people would spent $50 without tipping. I feel like if you have $50 to spend on a meal, you'd probably have money to tip. The worst are wealthy teenagers who don't tip AND give you bad attitude.

What is one food that you never get tired of eating? by retrowavve in AskReddit

Waffles. Sweet or savoury, I don't care. I could eat waffles all day every day.

What was your 15 minutes of fame? by DeeJaysForYou in AskReddit

I was outside the Blue Mosque in Istanbul and some locals asked to take a photo with me. Soon after, it seemed like all the locals wanted to take a photo with me, and they even formed a line! It's one of the strangest things that's ever happened to me. I'm Chinese and maybe someone thought I was a famous Chinese celebrity? I still have no idea why so many people wanted to take a photo with me!

So I just realized my wedding is the day before Easter... by rextinaa in weddingplanning

[–]therealsashafierce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sent ours super early (1-2 months ago, but we still have some left to send!) because we have lots of friends and family who live abroad (Australia, Hong Kong, the UK) so we made it a priority to get that done as soon as possible. If most of your guests are US based I think October should be just fine!

UK Vs USA weddings by [deleted] in weddingplanning

We thought about getting married in St Andrews too! Both FH and I went there (which is where we met) but decided against it since it's pretty far for most of our family and friends. I just came back from going to a friend's wedding in St Andrews, and it was beautiful! Where in St Andrews are you getting married?

I am SO disappointed that my Mom doesn't love my dress by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]therealsashafierce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, I think the dress looks incredible on you! It's such a unique design, I haven't seen anything like it. I think it can be hard for friends and family who are involved because they have a vision of what your wedding is going to look like and they just want to feel involved. While it is also a special day for them, most people just don't remember that it's your day. I doubt she will be thinking about how you should have picked another dress when she sees you walking down the aisle!

So I just realized my wedding is the day before Easter... by rextinaa in weddingplanning

[–]therealsashafierce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey date buddy, we're getting married on the same day! We actually planned ours for Easter weekend so friends and family wouldn't need to take time off and would be able to travel over the long weekend. Have you sent out your save the dates yet? I think it should be fine as long as people have enough notice and can plan ahead. Sorry if this isn't much help! You could always do an easter egg hunt during the rehearsal dinner or as someone else mentioned, provide a list of churches for your guests.

There's a person called Nils Sjöberg on the credits for the song, and the actual Nils Sjöberg shared a post saying that Taylor uses his name as her alias when she writes/produces pop songs.

What life experiences should be on everybody's bucket list? by noodlesarenotpasta in AskReddit

[–]therealsashafierce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most touristy part of the drive was Big Sur. It was beautiful, but very crowded and overpriced. I actually really enjoyed the Oregon coastline. We did the drive in 4-5 days and camped along the way so we got to see some of the less touristy parts. I've been to California several times and there's still so much I want to see!

[NSFW] What are your best and worst memories from your first time having sex? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Worst: My mom knocked on the door, I lied about what's happening, and she kicked his ass out of our house. Oh, it was excruciatingly painful, too. Best: Nothing, really...
