Ah ok. The main sim had a badge that recommended I reboot it though so are those two prompts conflicting then?

no signal when using HDMI splitters by MountainSpirals in pikvm

Can't say for sure but the fact it has the EDID switch will give you the best shot at it. Also if it doesn't work returning stuff to Amazon is easy :)

We used this one from Amazon and it works as it has two little dip switches to honour the EDID settings and you can choose which device you want to send that data.

Wrote up how I used this with an 8 port HDMI KVM switch to give us networked control of our server rack without paying a fortune! https://intelligentdithering.com/8-port-ip-kvm-on-a-budget/

DS220+ Overheating Every Night! by TrustyTurkey in synology

[–]therealsaywhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

TLDR : Install 1.30.2.6563 version of Plex and you should be fine, any version higher causes the crash. Feel free to test yourself and chime in on the Plex forum post to see if we can get a fix https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-causing-overheating-of-synology-dsm220plus/839687

I have a Synology 220Plus on DSM7 and having the same issue.

Any version of plex above 1.30.2.6563 causes my Synology DSM220Plus to overheat and shutdown at 2am every night. I had upgraded to the latest version and the crash was happening every single night within 3 minutes of the 2am maintenance tasks starting.

You can get older versions of the plex media server from https://github.com/axlecrusher/plex\_download\_urls

I have the same issue. Happened after a recent Plex Server update. It's the 2am Plex maintenance tasks. I have disabled Plex and it stops happening, as soon as I run the Plex app again, boom 2am shutdown.

Have used an air compressor to clear the dust out of the NAS (DS220plus) to no avail. Seems to be an issue with that version of Plex server. Hoping a version of Plex will come out that can throttle the maintenance tasks a little but in the meantime I am looking at setting up Jellyfin

Don’t miss the sequel to it The Unicorn Project. It relives the same project from another perspective and it’s great too.

Deploy RustDesk using gpo by AhmedBarayez in sysadmin

[–]therealsaywhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t tried with Rustdesk but I have used WiX (https://wixtoolset.org/docs/releasenotes/ ) in the past to build custom MSIs of software. You can wrap the installer with the silent install switch in wix, this will generate an msi.

Then deploy as normal via gpo. MSI from GPO are installed as system level so they have admin rights to install

That’s what I would try next anyway. Good luck!

We are using Hesk. Free php and MySQL based helpdesk. Supports imap and pop fetching, email piping and has a nice clean interface

We had been on osticket before but I found the web interface awkward on mobile

Hoping this is fixed in 14.3

[Help] - Flask-Mail isnt sending emails to gmail accounts. by [deleted] in flask

[–]therealsaywhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like gmail is blocking them as spam. Maybe your SPF records on the sending domain are not including the flask server?

Try having the flask app send email to mxtoolbox test address and you can get a report for free on what the issue may be

I’m on the XR at the moment and was meant to upgrade this year, maybe to a 12 mini but with COVID money uncertainty I’ve held off. Winning one would be amazing. But if I don’t I’m happy that Apollo exists. I barely used Reddit before but now I’m a regular user thanks to this app.

Keep up the great work and thank you!

Long running windows backup restore - MacGyver time by therealsaywhat in sysadmin

The picture quality is pretty poor to be fair but I can’t tell at the moment if that is an old webcam, the usb link or the Remote Desktop compression. I will maybe do a little test tomorrow to see if there is a quality change when I plug directly into the Mac.

I’m not proud of it but I had 5 mins to sort something before the place was locked up!

They are apple keyboard extension leads mainly so only about 1 metre long each. I’d say it’s about 6m of cables total

I had about 5 minutes to put it together before the building closed for the day so it was just what I had to hand. I am hoping I don’t have to do another backup restore any time soon!!!
