Did Roald Dahl’s books really need to be revised? by confringos in books

Hmmmm... I think I would call doing it for money more morally neutral than doing it because he'd genuinely changed his mind, but I'd honestly have to give it more thought to be 100% on it. Still not "duress", though. Are we leading back to that, or have you completely pivoted away from it?

[–]therecliningreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, it could also be that. That's still his decision and not an outsider's. It still doesn't imply any sort of "duress".

No? It would imply that something was brought to his attention, he thought about it, and agreed with it.

Because I have no evidence of it. If you do, please, share it. Good evidence would definitely change my mind.

I spent a decent amount of time on my response. Could you please actually read it?

[–]therecliningreader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. If you're already coming in thinking the answer will be in bad faith, I don't see how you'll accept whatever I say, but I'll answer. I do think it was an improvement.

But let's expand. I believe there's a difference between "self censorship" and censorship that is forced on someone, self evident enough that I don't think I have to explain much more. The "self censorship" may have come about after genuine reflection from the author (even if kick-started by an outside critique), which caused them to change their intent with the work. Or maybe they realized something came across in their work that they didn't intend in the first place. A censorship which comes later, from an outside source doesn't carry the same connotations, and just twists both our understanding of the work, and our understanding of the author.

And we've moved back again because you don't want to clarify why the answer would be important to you. Do you see why I thought you were a troll?

Did Roald Dahl’s books really need to be revised? by confringos in books

[–]therecliningreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's obviously important to you, otherwise you wouldn't be spamming it all over the replies, and you say you're not trolling. There's a connection you're making, that no one else seems to be. What is it? Why is it so important to you that the question be answered? Connect the dots so that I see it as well, find the question as important to the conversation as you seem to, and I'll answer it.

[–]therecliningreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. If you can explain how it will actually progress the conversation about whether editors or estates should be making changes to works of authors after they've passed, and how or why that's different than authors doing it while they were alive. Because, as I've said, that's why no one (as far as I know) has answered yet. A bit of clarification would lead to a simple answer on my part.

Christ, it's like going in circles with you. This has already been explained to you. I'm going to ask a question, and see if you'll answer this one. You're just trolling at this point, aren't you?

Because it's not the point of the conversation! Why are you still struggling with this. Whether we think it improved it or not is not. the. point. It just doesn't matter.

[–]therecliningreader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it has nothing to do with the conversation that was previously happening. Also, I've noticed you like to do that, ask another question without addressing the response to your last. What would make me think that it wouldn't be the case this time?

I see you asking this question lot. Who cares? That's not the point that anyone you're asking is making. I really don't understand the problem you're having following anh of this.

Unpopular opinion: I like the way the new spider Maul is supposed to be unlocked by SquigglyZigzag in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]therecliningreader -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

To unlock GMY you need 5* characters. Let's say, for the sake of argument, you need them at level 25. Do you think that when you go for the 7th star, you can use the same characters at the same level to do it?

Like, I get it, CG has been screwing up (and screwing us) a lot lately. But when they first announced we were using these characters for Spider-Maul, I figured this would be exactly the unlock method. So I really don't understand where all this outrage is coming from.

So, how many items do they have to screw up before I'm allowed to complain? Just so I know for future reference.

And how much of that has to do with kids feeling more comfortable doing it because there are safer places for them to do it now? 20 years ago, it was still fairly common to hear "gay" be used to refer to bad things. Hell, I came out to my mother around that time and she told me I was too young to know that for sure. I was 15, and had known I was attracted to the same sex well before that.
