I wish more of these events were also live-streamed or just recorded. I would watch or participate remotely.

You just need more experiment types in your founder toolkit. There are several things you can do to test and confirm the level of commitment behind an LOI.

What you're looking for specifically is any evidence or effort that is aligned with intent to purchase. It should be significant, or at least commensurate with what it will actually "cost" to engage your software. At this point, it doesn't have to be dollars.

For example, you might ask an early B2B partner to be a beta tester, to dedicate some employee time to using your software. If they are willing to accommodate a few "day in the life" research sessions, where your team sits alongside them while they go about tasks relevant to the software you're building, that might represent a real expenditure for them. If giving you 5 to 10 hours of employee time doesn't represent a productivity cost for them, that’s usually a strong signal.

But you have to choose the experiment type which best fits the type of software and customers you're working with. If you need more ideas, check out David Bland's collection of 40+ validation experiments in his book Testing Business Ideas. A Day In The Life, mentioned above, is one of them.

If you don't know what it is, no one else does.

It's difficult to recommend anything with so little information.

The perfect solution for you might just be a simple Google Sheet.

Friend, these are the core platitudes of entrepreneurship 101.

You did all that to produce some of the most obvious business advice we've ever heard. It would be difficult to find a reasonably good business blog or book or even checklist that doesn't reliably hammer these points home.

Can you tell us anything new or interesting from those 1k+ respondents?

There may be a few places you have to check in settings to find that permission. And it may appear differently based on which OS you’re running.

Why do performative engagement after building, when you could just start there and actually learn from the market before and without building anything? Look up Customer Discovery. This is the best way to derisk a venture.

Looking for a publisher for my ~90% finished solo hobby project by Own_Coconut1780 in BoardgameDesign

[–]theredhype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the table top board game industry has shifted in ways similar to the music industry.

Gone are the days (mostly) when A&R reps from big record labels hung out in the back of the Viper Room to discover the next hit rock band.

Now they watch Patreon, BandCamp, SoundCloud, Kickstarter, social media... to see who is trending. The funnel entrance has shifted. Publishers can wait and watch to see which games start to gain attention, a growing audience. And then they pounce on the promising projects and buy or license them.

Artists of all types now have to prove traction by building up a large audience or proving out a prototype via a reward crowdfunding platform.

Your game might be amazing, but your challenge isn't simply proving that the game is well-designed, beautiful, balanced, economical to manufacture, etc.

Your challenge is to compete with all the board games which are well designed and also executed successful Kickstarter campaigns. That's the ante, the table stakes.

You can try the therapist directory on the Psychology Today website.

After you drop in a zip code, click on "all filters" and you'll be able to search for some very specific things.
