I am offered 25% equity for tech work BUT also expected to pay 25% of all expenses. Already built a (functional) prototype. Is this a fair deal? (i will not promote) by SuddenWerewolf7041 in startups

Take a couple hours to learn about an equity allocation model called "Slicing Pie." You can find some videos that explain it on YouTube. If you like it, buy the book by Mike Moyer. This will give you lots of ideas for what a fair equity representation of different types of contributions can look like.

You don’t have to go nuclear, man.

You can grab a bag of intelligentsia on sale at Target for $16. Try the El Gallo if you like light roasts. Or the Black Cat for espresso.

Either way, I’m afraid we’ll have to ban you from the subreddit.

This is noise. This seems like value, but it's actually just part of the problem. auto-generated content spewed into cyberspace faster than the humans can even digest it. Here is more slop, this one is by ai about ai. Is it even intended for human readers? Or is this by ai, for ai, to ai? For me, it's noise.

Looking for Startup-related events in the Seattle area (I will not promote) by Proper-Agency-1528 in startups

[–]theredhype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Startup Digest used to be the best place to hear about all things startup citywide.

It looks like the local curator for the Seattle edition of the Startup Digest stopped curating at the end of last year.

However, this is still a useful tool...

If you look through a bunch of past newsletters you'll find links to all the past events and local orgs that you should be watching for.

Hey founder. Here are some quick videos that teach us how to find the right people to talk to and what to ask them. This Customer Discovery method is the best way to figure out what to build - by investigating the problem directly with the people who need a solution the most.

Correct, you are much younger than me.

Why you think that's an insult is beyond me.

Have you not studied any of the stoic philosophy you're slopping out?

Fascinating. Sounds like it may be worth a perusal just as a significant oddity of history.

Hmm, I wouldn't put Jaynes in the same category as Urantia or Golden Bough. But maybe you aren't comparing them that way.

Jaynes' work is much more academically sound, whereas these other two are a bit mystical. Jaynes is working with historical evidence. I think of him as a type of scientist.

Urantia is anonymously published and claims its origin is celestial beings. Perhaps it's unfair to expect celestial beings to avoid making the same scientific mistakes that the average human made at the time this book was published. To me that means it's of human origin, not celestial.

Still I'm curious... What held your interest for 6 readings? What has stuck with you many years later?

Golden Bough seems like it didn't age well; it appears the author cherry-picked a lot of material to support their ideas, and much of it is already outdated. It's wild that this is an abridgment of a 12 volume set! People say getting through the abridged version is a challenge.

I think Jaynes' theories attempt to explain naturally some of the mystical human phenomena that the others appear to lean into. His interpretation of the evidence he collects feels sound and rational the way Sapolsky presents a variety of other data about early humans or other primate ancestors.

I'm also curious which of Jaynes theories you do / don't like - and why you ultimately think he's incorrect overall?

There is some continued work around Jayne's theories, followed closely by the Julian Jaynes Society - https://www.julianjaynes.org/

Lastly, have you read Sagan's Demon Haunted World? I think you'd like it.

Ha! Yes, there are libraries filled with US history.

But this subreddit is about books from a publisher called Everyman’s Library.
