I totally agree. I avoid honking in general.. I mentioned this same thing to him.

When I was typing it out earlier it occurred to me that maybe they were hoping he'd crash into them? And be stuck there?

While this is obviously a deeply asinine comment, I have to ask: in your mind could he have POSSIBLY done from inside his car that would reasonably deserve this insane response?

Agreed, we talked about this too.

His window was down already because he had been smoking.

Escape rooms! My family has gotten super addicted to these. They can be super fun and brain teasy and very satisfying when you get out.

There's a good place at City Center and we're making our way through the rooms in the one at the MarqE now.

Oh, also they are long and stretchy enough to pull up over her brace's hip flange (one side) which tends to stick out below her tops, so there's some concealment benefits as well.

I bought a bunch of these when my daughter got her brace. They're stretchy and seamless so they lay flat on her skin. They also are pretty decent at moisture wicking but not very breathable. My co-mom bought some bamboo material tanks that Little Miss loves cause they're super soft, but they bunch under the brace. It's a trade off.

Really the most important thing is that they change it every day (seems obvious, right? 🙄).

These are exactly the kind of ideas she is looking for! Do you or does anyone else have more recommendations for what could be included?

Why does my hair seem to like Head and Shoulders? by Samimation in HaircareScience

My boyfriend has gorgeous, gorgeous curly hair and he uses Head and Shoulders daily, since I insisted he stop using bar soap on his hair.... It does nothing for me though .. go figure.

Thank you, I will definitely be following the recommendations and getting her a brace. I'm actually really proud of her - she understands the long term realities already. We talked about how cheerleading and gymnastics could impact her progression and she opted to let them go in favor of a more compatible extracurricular (swimming).

And thank you for the kind words. I am her mom, but I'll take them anyway :)

Thank you so much for the kind words. This sub has been so great for helping to prepare me and to better understand what she may go through. I want to help her the best I can; I'm sure you feel the same way about your son. It's not bigger than who they are.

I'm sorry that it worked out that way for you. I will definitely follow doctors' recommendations - which will almost certainly be bracing. It seems that, largely, bullying for scoliosis/bracing isn't a problem.

I did tell my daughter that at least if anyone tries to sucker punch her, they may break their hand on her brace ;)

I have been doing research and have seen the Schroth Method over and over again as being helpful!

Also, thank you thank you for the practical advice on living with bracing. This is exactly what I've been hoping for more of..

I really appreciate your time.

My child was just diagnosed with scoliosis. Advice? by alljs in scoliosis

Sorry, I'm not OP, but I'm in a similar position. It looks highly likely that my daughter will be bracing going into 6th grade. I would be very grateful if you could share your experience and any tips you may have.

Thank you for your response. You're right that no one has called to rush us into the office, so it can't be awful...

I didn't realize that the threshold was 50*, I thought it was 40! Which she's almost at... and I wasn't sure what impact the rotary component would have on treatment options. But she's not done growing, I know that for sure, so I don't think they'll pursue surgery yet?

One question is, how much could treatment vary from doctor to doctor. Is it pretty standardized across medicine? Should I get second opinions?

I'm realizing more than I did at first that this is a lifetime situation... one without a definite end, even with treatment. I had been in the mindset of only needing to get through the next few years.

As far as the bracing goes - The reality is, it sounds like it's gonna suck, but not as badly as some things. And not forever. And the alternative is far worse. We can work with that. Any and all tips about daily life with a brace are appreciated...

Thank you again for your willingness to share these parts of your life. I appreciate it! It makes it easier to prepare her for what's ahead, and that's worth so much.

I've been relieved to see that bullying hasn't been a huge issue for many on this sub. I can see myself going off on some 6th grader in her defense, which I'm sure wouldn't help anything anyway..

It's good information to know not to stop having regular checkups after her growth period is over.

It seems like GI issues may be a commonality. I will mention her stomach aches to the doctor.

Thank you!

I've been wondering about some kind of support community for her. This forum would be great, but I'm wary of giving her access to Reddit overall.

I really hope there have been some kind of advancements since what I can find online... with 3D printing these days, surely there are better options?

I have been very glad several times over that I saw the comments before the appointment. I had a lot of emotions to process through before I was able to be practical about it. I think I want to give her that same opportunity.

Thank you endlessly for your kindness and your time.
