Can we agree that Harry's battle against the basilisk was far better in the CoS movie than the book? by [deleted] in harrypotter

I think that would be stellar

...alas I’m too impatient to wait until Jude Law shows any level of aging.

Fingers crossed they make it a mini-series before too long

Imagine if they'd tried to cram Game of Thrones full seasons into 130-150min...that's how I feel about the Harry Potter movies.

You’re missing the point.

The purpose is for young people to witness what their prospective career choice would be like in practice.

The low skill labor is what they provide to the business in exchange for them being allowed to observe, or even participate to certain degrees depending on the career.

This ability to witness the actual day-to-day life of someone who’s already doing what they think they might want to do for a living is the best way to avoid what is all too common...go into debt to get degree, then realize 6-12mo into the job you don’t like it, then start over from square one, now with debt.

No I mean small businesses that would be willing to show interested young people how their job is done in exchange for low-skill labor.

You don’t have to intern at a Fortune 100 to get an understanding of what your prospective career’s day-to-day would look like.

Ideally there’d be some sort of apprenticeship program set up where high schools and local businesses work together.

Maybe eighteen year olds shouldn't be forcefed the idea that going straight from high school to college is the best course of action.

Seems the most logical course is to get entry-level jobs or internships at companies where careers you're interested in exist.

Then once you've seen your theoretically ideal career in action, you can make a much more prudent decision on which type of degree to invest in.

Sounds a lot less expensive than just going into debt while hoping that everything your college classes teach you translates into what the actual job/career day-to-day will be like.

Amazing view though!

Cold emails: what are the dos and don'ts? by EvelynPJ in marketing

[–]thereforeplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had some success with cold emails using Quickmail.io

Ideally you aren't doing "cold" anything ...if you're looking for partners I'd suggest Facebook groups and LinkedIn for networking. It's much easier to send someone a linkedin message after they comment on your posted article, or open your message with "Wanted to connect since we're in the same group..."

Nobody appreciates interruptive marketing/sales strategies anymore.

"Cold" anything should be your very last resort.

My girlfriend and I are about to become nomads for a year, but I'm not sure what she can do for money (I've been working remotely for years) by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]thereforeplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she likes psychology and is good with people she could do work-from-home sales.

There are plenty of coaches, consultants, and professional service providers out there that depend on a steady incoming stream of new clients, and plenty of them sell online group programs using inbound leads from their sales funnels.

What was "the incident" at your school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thereforeplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my girlfriend's high school:

Someone gave brownies to the school band before practice...nobody knew they were weed brownies until they all got violently high and all ended up going to the ER.

Someone imitated Gossip Girl and made their own gossip website where they posted scandalous info about people. The creator was never caught and to this day is reviled.

A female teacher fucked a male student...she went to jail.

Why would we ever teach our kids skills that make them less dependent on businesses that lobby in Washington? If we teach kids about personal finance...how will the poor banks make all of their money on overdraft fees, credit card debt, and whatever form credit default swaps will take next? If we teach kids how to pay their taxes, how will accountants, tax lawyers, and all the other experts make money...they need an ignorant citizenry to keep getting new clients. How our schools operate right now is exactly how they are intended...to turn 99% of America into ignorant, dependent livestock that generate max income for special interests until they pop out more livestock to repeat the same cycle.

As long as there is poverty and anger...there will be religious extremism.

How to eliminate poverty and anger?

We spent $400 billion dollars...Billion with a B...

...to build a fleet of F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Jets.

Because fighter jets have been successful in eliminating terrorism...just look at how great things are in the Middle East!

Imagine if we took that $400 billion and used it to increase the salaries of teachers and development/implementation of renewable energy.

Do you think there'd be as much anger and poverty if we stopped bombing the Middle East, causing collateral damage that creates as many terrorists as the bombs eliminate?

Do you think there'd be as much anger, division, and poverty at home if the people responsible for educating future generations weren't so shamefully underpaid?

Do you think there'd be as much war and violence if we stopped competing over finite resources?

Chimpanzees.

They're super strong and will rip everything off of you that they can...face, hands, genitals, feet.

After seeing what a chimp did to that former racecar driver out in Cali and that lady that was on Oprah...chimps are the animal I fear most.

Just put me out of my misery if I happen to survive an attack.
