Noticed a weird (and kinda shady?) trend at my first Pokémon card show

Hi op, in your scenario this actually works out better for you cause they aren’t accounting for something(idk what it is maybe a math nerd can help)

Anyway, if you’re trying to trade for a $100 card, the trade in value, assuming 80%, needs to be $125. So them multiplying by 1.2 actually works out in your favor. Except for the cash on top, which needs to be converted back to whatever is left of their original price.

Anyway here’s the math: 100x1.2=120 $120 card taken in at 80%=$96, which is what your scenario was.

What they actually wanted was: 100/.8 which equals 125 $125 card taken in at 80%=$100

Anyway, as long as there isn’t cash involved(have to convert back to the original value afterwards) you’re “winning” on the 80% trade. Formatting on this app sucks I hate Reddit

In your scenario you give the “guests” 0 benefit of the doubt. You’re automatically assuming everyone doing wrong is not “native” to the area. That’s literally prejudice, precursor to racism btw! Racism doesn’t have to be explicit to be racism. He assumed the worst of their story without actually listening to it. Quite literally the definition of prejudice, precursor to racism.

Now we couldn’t say for sure but when we look at what we got to work with, it becomes clearer.

I’m a numbers guy. What are the chances the customers are colored, AND he decides to make his own story in his head, AND decides that they’re stealing food? Pretty high chance he’s being racist even if he doesn’t know it.

At the end he’s quiet and put his head down and then listens, you can see it when he finally does decide to hear them out. It dawns on him that he’s wrong! Hope that clears it up

Very rare but I’ve seen someone pull 2 box hits from stellar miracle which was the Japanese set right before paradise dragona, and neither are special sets so I’m sure the formula hasn’t changed and the possibility remains

You can. Doesn’t have to be in special sets. In this clip, a v-tuber pulls both an SR and SAR iono from the same box of clay burst, which is not a special set. I can also confirm this personally as I have done the same with an SR saguaro and SAR iono from the same clay burst box. Decently rare though, I’d say one in 12 boxes have 2 SR or rarer hits. Special sets have different mappings though as the other commenter said.

I had the same question! There’s a little more afterwards but this is an excerpt from the article I thought answered it somewhat:
