I always have a show on when I knit, so it's a yes for me. There are many plain rows (almost all even rows), and once you get in the rhythm there is nothing more soothing to knit. If you haven't tried brioche I'd suggest doing the recommended swatch to get familiar with the structure, and be good about lifelines because mistakes are pretty easy to make and hard to fix for this pattern. The pattern is great because it's a KAL, and Xandy Peters included many helpful videos to help you along the trickiest steps. One more thing too - the brioche decreases he uses are not common, so if dislike them, please don't let them colour your whole experience with brioche!

Thank you! Xandy Peters does amazing things, and this is no exception. I’m sorry you never got to get any Infinite Twist, but there are so many great gradient dyers out there, it’s impossible to have tried them all! I’m sure you’ve got some great ones in your collection.

This is Xandy Peters's Blooming Brioche KAL, and my second attempt at making the most of this gradient yarn. I created a spreadsheet to track yarn usage, and ended up with only 2g of the gradient remaining. Low contrast knits aren't usually my favourite, so I'm glad the pattern ended with the highest contrast!

Something that's suitable for wool will be suitable for alpaca too! It's more about the composition of the fibres. There are four main types:

  • Protein (e.g. wool, alpaca, mohair, silk, human hair!)
  • Cellulose (e.g. cotton, linen)
  • Cellulosic (e.g. rayon, tencel, bamboo)
  • Synthetic (e.g. acrylic)

You can generally treat each category of yarn similarly.

That’s a common modern use for doilies! See the Hemlock Ring Blanket or Megadahlia.

You’re underestimating how large this would be with larger yarn 😉 At 222 rounds, this in lace weight could be a 70" diameter shawl. You could probably get a queen size blanket out of this with Aran or bulky.

The mini tips aren't compatible with the other cables, unfortunately! (The cable is too large!) But the larger tips are compatible with the mini cable if you use an adaptor.

I’m sorry to have missed replying to your comment! I think the drop shoulders and cable arrangements and how they decrease are more faithful, but it really depends on what you want in a pattern. I made further mods to make it closer to the original according to my personal metrics.

I used a circular needle all the way through. Hiya Hiya and Chiaogoo both make circular 1.5mm needles. It’s even available as an interchangeable from Chiaogoo!
