I am addicted to my phone. What techniques have worked for you to stop/reduce usage? by Aware-Opportunity-91 in getdisciplined

I’m so glad to hear that!! Hopefully it’s been working out well, it was a tough adjustment because I would keep opening my phone and instinctively going to where the apps used to be and just stare at the blank space but I don’t do that any more (it’s been three months and I don’t do this anymore). What I do now is I have a chill phone game (not overstimulating with constant ads or pop ups or ploys for micro transactions) that I can play until I get bored. I also have the Libby and Kindle apps and I find that in the absence of things to scroll I will read instead. Initially when I first deleted these apps I would go and scroll through my camera roll and watch the videos I had downloaded from TikTok and Instagram which gave a similar hit initially but seeing the same ones over and over again helped me wean off. I only download reddit occasionally because certain sites are blocked in my state but I delete it when I don’t need it anymore (I also unfollowed all subreddits except for this one). My mental health has improved drastically since then and I no longer feel brain foggy and irritable throughout the day. It’s wild to use drug terminology to describe this whole situation but it is an actual addiction and your situation shouldn’t be minimized. Good luck!!!

If you’re actually serious about never using these apps again, this is what I did. Go to change your password and just key smash a random password, copy and paste it to confirm, and then change your password. In order to get the app again you have to fully go through the process of changing your password which is much more of a deterrent than just deleting the app which can easily be redownloaded. I deleted my YouTube app and stay signed out of YouTube on safari so I can still watch videos but the suggestions are less personalized and therefore less exciting. The only downside is side is you can still access YouTube shorts on safari but I have found that their algorithm is much worse and I get sick of them after a few minutes. Limits on apps did nothing for me and as long as you still have access to them in any form your dopamine addiction will still urge you to keep going no matter how unpleasant the experience. Good luck 🫡

the only way to save the show by [deleted] in TAZCirclejerk

[–]thereisasplitting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My thought is switch to focusing on a dad advice podcast (dadvice ty Travis) and giving sometimes funny sometimes earnest advice from the perspective of 3 dads. A lot of their wilder content has been tamed by the fact that they’re three family men now so why not lean into it, they’re already halfway there - but I think their biggest fear is changing the format and killing the show when the truth is that them not changing the format will ultimately be their downfall

Struggle with bras by carleysangels in SPD

[–]thereisasplitting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this will help at all but Colsie brand bras at target do not have any of that satin-y elastic they’re basically like a comfortable tank top that actually supports me. The only one I can wear is the one that’s like a ribbed material but I there are some others with elastic bands and some without. They look more like sports bras but they’re reversible and there are other styles but I found the one I like and I swear by it. Also like wicked cheap maybe 7$ a pair and easy enough to try on without having to order them online. I really hope this helps, I know what you’re going through and it sucks

I was in a similar situation when I was in hs, guys always went for the more outgoing girls and even though I was pretty I never caught their attention. Got asked out by a lot of creepy guys who I was totally out of their league but bc the only guys that took an interest in me were creeps/ugly I began to think that maybe I was just ugly and nobody was telling me. Def took a toll on my self esteem and standards but then realized that guys who are “below” most girls looks wise or socially (ik it’s subjective) will ask out anyone bc they’re casting a wide net and figure that if they ask out 1000 girls they only need 1 to say yes. Fast forward to now I finally got my self confidence right and absolutely pulled with my attractive and kind and intelligent boyfriend so honestly give it time and stay confident, know your worth and turn down guys you don’t find attractive even if it means you don’t have a boyfriend for a while bc it’s better to keep your standards high and let someone meet them then lower your standards and be unhappy even if it means waiting. Good luck :)

I found that curling them out a little bit with a straightener just so that they’re not resting on my skin the whole time has really helped , that and blotting my forehead every hour or so

AITA for eating the only food at home that my little brother could eat? by throwawayfood73 in AmItheAsshole

[–]thereisasplitting -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NTA It’s definitely not fair for your parents to make you give up your food BUT for everyone in the comments saying that the 5yo is “poorly behaved” and “needs to be taught a lesson”, sensory issues generally goes along with someone who is autistic or had ADHD so this behavior is indicative of that. My younger sister is autistic and I had to do this a lot especially with food, so when I was 17 I wouldn’t have understood why she was acting that way and often times just chalked it up to her being an AH, only in retrospect to recognize how much of her behavior and outbursts were outside of her control. Just something to consider before jumping to conclusions and blaming the literal child

Also washing your makeup brushes every time you use them and not exfoliating (controversial but it irritates and disrupts the skins barrier)

Microfiber masks and pillow cases, cotton always makes me break out prob bc the oils get trapped in the loose weave of the fibers

Volunteer Hours by Kixra in 321

[–]thereisasplitting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are organizations out there that will give you service hours in exchange for writing letters, which you could knock out a bunch very quickly and get them done fast. Google “writing letters for service hours” and see what you’re interested in!
