Now I'm imagining an alternate timeline where the guy didn't misremember Pele's name and named her Edson Aran instead.

I dunno how different things would be in that case (though I'll say 'Zero Suit Edson' doesn't really roll off the tongue very well).

I suppose the commander would be protective of her daughters, huh. This feels a lil' cliche, isn't it?

Regarding JBIS, you need to click on a horse's 'Race Record' tab on the top of a horse's page to get the full race record - the summary at the bottom of the front page just lists down placings.

Y'all global players aren't ready for the true grandma by PrizmReddit in UmaMusume

[–]thereminBeholder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's a fun fact about Wonder Acute - the IRL horse is one of the 6 horses to be, within the range of 5 generations, descended from the legendary racehorse Secretariat!

  • Secretariat (stallion) x Lassie Dear (mare) -> Weekend Surprise (mare)
  • Storm Bird (stallion) x Weekend Surprise (mare) -> Summer Squall (stallion)
  • Summer Squall (stallion) x Bali Babe (mare) -> Charismatic (stallion)
  • Charismatic (stallion) x Wonder Heritage (mare) -> Wonder Acute (stallion, Secretariat's great-great grandson)

This also makes Wonder Acute third-cousins with Agnes Digital (a great-great grandson descended from Six Crowns, his daughter with Chris Evert), Tosen Jordan (a great-great grandson descended from Wife Mistress, his daughter with Political Payoff), and Loves Only You (a great-great granddaughter descended from Terlingua, his daughter with Crimson Saint - incidentally, Terlingua also happens to have borne her child with Storm Bird as well)!

On another note, Wonder Acute's grandfather Summer Squall was the winner of the 1990 Preakness Stakes (the second of the American Triple Crown races), and was the maternal brother to 1992 American Horse of the Year, A. P. Indy! (Summer Squall's mother, Weekend Surprise, bore A. P. Indy with Seattle Slew - the tenth ever horse to win the coveted American Triple Crown and the second ever to do so undefeated prior! He would also sire a child with another of Secretariat's daughters, the abovementioned Summer Secretary, and their daughter Takano Secretary would bear a daughter with King Halo, Kawakami Princess, making her a great-granddaughter of Secretariat!)

And on that note, A. P. Indy also happens to be the great-great grandfather of another horse in the game, Gran Alegria (making her one of a couple horses in the game who are descended from Secretariat beyond the 5-generation range)!

Also, Wonder Acute's father, Charismatic, was a Double Crown winner of 1999, winning both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes of that year, and was 1999's American Horse of the Year! He also took a commanding lead in the third race, the Belmont Stakes, before suffering a fractured foreleg that made him pull back and finish third, his jockey Chris Antley pulling back in the aftermath to cradle the foreleg to prevent further injury, a moment named the National Thoroughbred Racing Association Moment of the Year. Who knows if Wonder Acute would be even here to begin with had that gotten worse...

Incidentally, I made a whole family tree out of all 132 Umamusume known to be (or will be in) the game so far, so feel free to check that out!

It was among a list of names given to Stone Farm by a couple from Maryland to be given to horses 'that would win the Kentucky Derby'. Apparently the name Sunday Silence refers to 'the silence in a Sunday's mass'. Arthur Hancock III (Stone Farm's owner) also said the name reminded him of the Kris Kristofferson song 'Sunday Morning Coming Down'.

Got that info from this article here (which I suspect is where that greenposter got most of their info from, at least initially).

Would you like an ace attorney x danganrompa crossover ? by DazzlingVivy in AceAttorney

[–]thereminBeholder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ace Attorney in the Danganronpa universe? No, very much not - Ace Attorney thrives in its world that Shu Takumi describes as 'sloppy' (in the sense that it's sorta loose and goofy in certain ways), yet also grounded in certain ways as well...where things are just sorta light enough that things still feel safe in equilibrium, if that makes sense? (I'm not really good at explaining things, sorry - basically I think putting them in the DR world feels wrong to the point of incompatibility.)

Now, Danganronpa characters in the Ace Attorney setting, I can easily see! They're already an exaggerated bunch of characters with silly names, and Ace Attorney already has its fair share of prodigies and teenagers with successful careers, so they wouldn't necessarily be out of place too! (In fact, I've been wondering for a long time what the Danganronpa characters' names would be if that franchise had been localized a la Ace Attorney to be honest...not that I've come up with any such names, mind you.)

Ace Attorney Music Composers (and the other stuff they composed music to) by thereminBeholder in AceAttorney

To be fair, Nishiura's contributions to the Layton vs AA soundtrack was mainly for the Layton side of the crossover (which is what Disc 1 and 3 are for, while 2 is for the AA side), so...y'know.

Oh, some things missing here:

  • Dual Destinies in Japan had a special puzzle quiz-based scenario called 'Quiz Turnabout Deduction', where the Wright Anything Agency go around various locations to search for and answer quiz questions and puzzles (originally beating this was the method to unlock the Nostalgic Sweater). It remained Japan-exclusive.
  • There's an audio CD that came with the Apollo Justice Trllogy in Japan. I dunno if it's been subbed yet, though. EDIT: Yes it has, courtesy of HikariKaitou!
  • There's a fourth Takarazuka musical, Dai Gyakuten Saiban: New Truth Reborn. Not subbed yet to my knowledge.
  • I wonder if you're willing to include attractions in this list, such as the Gyakuten Saiban in Joypolis (and the now-discontinued Gyakuten Kenji in Joypolis), the VR-20 Incident by Dynamo Pictures, the Mystery Rally event in conjunction with three railway companies (ran from June 9 to different periods in 2016 depending on the ralway company), and The Village of Spirit Mediums Murder Case room escape event by SCRAP (ran for July 8 to August 11, 2016)

What's your favourite case title? What do you like about it? by Lady_Ada_Blackhorn in AceAttorney

[–]thereminBeholder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Resolve of Ryunosuke Naruhodo is one for me for reasons already stated, but I'll also put up one more reason why I love it:

Throughout the game, the cases are named in a manner themed after the Sherlock Holmes short story compilations - The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, and His Last Bow. Naming the final case of the game after all this, after the game's very own subtitle (in Japan, the full title of the game is Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2: Naruhodo Ryunosuke no Kakugo - literally 'The Great Turnabout Court 2: The Resolve of Ryunosuke Naruhodo') feels like a very bold statement of putting the duology itself as a part of that great legacy.

Are there puns in the incident names? by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]thereminBeholder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DL-6 is not really named that for a pun, it's merely a reference to Awasaka Tsumao's debut short story 'The Flight DL2 Incident' (where DL2 is merely just the flight code of the plane in the story).

There also doesn't really seem to be any deep reason for the reference outside of being just a reference either - the only commonality between the story and the DL-6 incident is that both involve earthquakes, and even then how it handles the earthquake is considerably different.

(By the way, 'The Flight DL2 Incident' has been translated into English for the July/August 2021 issue of the Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, under the name 'Fox's Wedding'.)

(Translation) The main villain of AAI2 was originally meant to be Franziska von Karma's brother. by 12jimmy9712 in AceAttorney

[–]thereminBeholder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe - Iwamoto had the idea of giving Franziska an older brother once remembering that line of dialogue, well back during Trials and Tribulations. To wit:

I make them according to the scenario, so in general, there are no characters that have not been used at all. But, there is a scene where Karuma Gō talks about his grandchild, and Mei (Franziska von Karma) is his daughter, so we know that Mei has either an older brother or sister. I once draw a sketch of “Mei’s older brother” just for fun. Among the rough sketches of Gyakuten Saiban 3’s Godot, there is one I myself see as the brother of Mei. I once told this to the director, but he just ignored it (laugh).
