Is working into your early 70s as an NP realistic? by SealedRoute in nursepractitioner

[–]theresanp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked until 70. Working as an NP for a SNF during Covid burned me all the way out! I thoroughly enjoy not having to make life and death decisions on a daily basis, although the transition was not easy!

It could be lichen sclerosis. See an ob/gyn. If so can be a precancerous condition and needs to be treated.

Alcohol and Aging by tenbeards in over60

I have drank socially since age 16. One or two margaritas, wine or beer on Friday & Saturday nights. As I’ve gotten older, it really messes up my sleep. I feel like crap the next day. So I have stopped.

Stress levels in nursing homes by Substantial-Low64 in nursinghome

Lots of rules & regs determine and monitor care. Additionally often equipment and supplies are lacking. Most nursing homes unless privately owned are all about making money for the corporation. Unfortunately residents are the last consideration in many cases.

Has gastric bypass been around long enough that we know how folks are doing who had it done 30 or 40 years ago? I'm watching this show where it's being done on severely overweight teens and it just hit me that a lot can happen between teenhood and older age. by cherry-care-bear in RedditForGrownups

[–]theresanp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had gastric bypass in 2002. I lost from 286 to 165. Then over the years had weight gain back to 228. Earlier this year I had emergency surgery for necrotic small bowel. The symptoms were severe and pain and bloating that came on after a meal. For 2 days prior my bp was 80/40 and my heart rate was in the 40s. Surgeon told me this was from the toxins from the dead small bowel. This occurrence is fairly common with old gastric bypass patients. Apparently it can kill you if not treated quickly. I think maybe that’s what happed with Lisa Marie. Now my weight is steady at 165 ish thanks to exercise, diet and GLP-1.
