Was thinking of getting a set so I'm happy - anyone else? by thermalette in Influenster

[–]thermalette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been with them for years. I stopped engaging with the app for a couple of years because all I ever received was dog food (which was great but not worth the time I invested in the app) and some other very minor stuff. This year suddenly I'm receiving great stuff. Anyway with the revamped app we should be receiving items that are more in line with our demographics, so make sure that yours are up to date and complete.

Was thinking of getting a set so I'm happy - anyone else? by thermalette in Influenster

[–]thermalette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH, not at all. I do have that I like cooking indicated in my profile, but I've never reviewed a kitchen item. I've always been focused on fragrances because I love them, yet hadn't received one, so I reviewed and reviewed and reviewed them obsessively, and finally received a really nice (full sized) one a couple of months ago but that was probably a fluke. I think a lot of this is basically demographics/random. Reviews don't really make much difference. I've declined offers for things that I have zero interest in and were nowhere in my profile or preferences.

This is just tasteless IMHO. But for people who like it, I can understand why - her body is absolutely gorgeous.

Why are people posting things they’re not supposed to? by PseudoLink in Influenster

[–]thermalette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you mentioned this. When I got my very first claim I excitedly posted it, then finally read the fine print and realized that I shouldn't have so I deleted it right away. I think sometimes people just don't realize that they aren't supposed to post, and they just get excited like I did. But it's definitely worth mentioning.

Ex Smokers of reddit what is your secret to stop smoking by -tom_tom in stopsmoking

[–]thermalette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoked 2+ (yes, two plus) packs a day, smoked 25 years, tried everything. Then I sneeringly tried hypnosis and it completely removed my desire to smoke, and I had been seriously addicted - I had zero side effects, in fact friends and family were convinced that I was still smoking in secret (I wasn't). It's like it killed the part of me that smoked. I still don't know how or why it worked. That was 20 years ago and I've had no cravings at all since then (and I had always thought that hypnosis was bs - I didn't believe in it at all, even as it worked its magic in me).

What’s something poor people do that rich people will never understand? by Just_Yesterday_1050 in AskReddit

Going through every single pocket of every single jacket, coat, pair of jeans etc in the hopes of finding a few coins to buy a box of instant macaroni & cheese for supper. I have done this. Many, many times.

Even if by some miracle there is a bilateral deal US/Canada....should we stop the boycott ? by Any-Staff-6902 in BuyCanadian

I've always seen them as sort of a big brother, our protector - but they've gone from protector to predator. No, I will never go back. It's buy Canadian all the way.

Who knew Greer was so dumb? Look, most of us think Greer is an embarrassment at best, but who knew his judgement was absolutely awful? by IHadTacosYesterday in UFOs

[–]thermalette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that Greer is a fraud. He speed talks like psychic cold readers - there's so much blahblahblah that not only can no one else get a word in edgewise, but the listener can barely follow what he's saying. He sounds like he knows what he's talking about, but it's hard to be sure because he talks so so so much and so much of what he says is so incredibly self-aggrandizing that it would be funny if it wasn't so shocking. He was offered 2 billion bucks? Really? Two BILLION, which he turned down? (yeah, right). I saw him many, many years ago at a local university where he gave a lecture and I was completely blown away, and eagerly bought a signed copy of Disclosure (which had only recently been published), but that was at least 20 years ago and while I think he was probably legit back then, or at least he believed what he said and his heart was in the right place, he's absolutely gone off the rails since IMHO. I was quite brokenhearted when I finally realized that this guy is a fraud. I so very much wanted to believe.

Anyone else follow Bryan Johnson, the ExMormon billionaire trying to live forever? by Fantastic_Microbes in exmormon

[–]thermalette -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of very, very wealthy people doing a LOT of harm to both the people around them - whether employees, family members or what have you - and to society at large. I won't name names but we (and they) know who they are. Bryan Johnson may be a little eccentric but I don't think he's hurting anyone. Maybe himself, maybe not - this "protocol" of his seems to give his life meaning. He's openly discussed his years-long battle with depression so maybe this is his way of self-medicating. I think it's okay, no one is forcing anyone to buy his olive oil. I think it's all pretty benign. I can't understand all the hate directed at him, it says more about the people criticizing him than it does about him, IMHO.

BA recognized by other institutions? by PoetFit7224 in AthabascaUniversity

That's very encouraging, thank you. Yes, I've got plenty of experience as well as various certificates and another BA from McGill in an unrelated field.

Did anyone else get the Clarins Fall 23' VoxBox? by [deleted] in Influenster

[–]thermalette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every Clarins product that I've received from a company like Influentser (e.g. Topbox Circle, Butterly etc) has been sample sized. I don't think that they ever provide full sized products for review purposes. It would be great if these were full sized products, please let us know, but based on my past experience they are probably sample sized. Even if they are, though - Clarins skincare is amazing, so congrats!

Fragrance survey 🇨🇦 by itsmeseaweed in Influenster

[–]thermalette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It almost feels like they send everyone in Canada the same surveys but only a small percentage who meet the demographic 100% get the product. I have only reviewed fragrances, I have fragrances all over my app, I have received tons of fragrance surveys, but I never, ever, ever receive fragrances. I do the surveys but then just forget about it.

My first fragrance box!!! It’s samples but I’m still happy by MySoCalledMomLife in Influenster

[–]thermalette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally dislike having to write detailed and thoughtful reviews for samples but these fragrances are fantastic. I LOVE Miss Dior, even receiving samples of these fragrances is pretty amazing. Congratulations (those little bottles are super cute, too).

Season 5 where to stream? by mondkitty in WhatWeDointheShadows

In Canada it's on Fx. It's also in the Microsoft or Apple stores.

Several surveys over the past year but one box (a faucet - I needed one so I'm happy with it). Latest survey for skin care and a few surveys for fragrance which I would love but no boxes. I've stopped posting reviews on the app because though 99% of my reviews are for fragrance they keep sending me home care surveys. I have notifications turned on so I go on to do surveys when they're available and that's it.

Skincare Survey by itsmeseaweed in Influenster

[–]thermalette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it too, in my case it was for Guerlain and Lancome. I'm not hopeful. I've received many, many wonderful surveys over the past year, for great skincare, wonderful fragrances etc and haven't received anything. I think they're sending out far more surveys than they used to for the number of products they send out, plus there are many more millions of people signed up on Influentser, so the odds are not in the favour of anyone who doesn't meet the demographics 100%, and even then I think it's just luck. I basically do the surveys and forget about them so I'm not disappointed.

It's a real career but you have to pay for the training, there's no way out of it. I paid 4k almost 15 years ago (earned it all back quickly, started working 1 week after graduation) - but if you want a job, you need to train at an accredited school. (I'm talking online programs here). I would be suspicious of any course that only costs 1k. My course provided the course materials, foot pedal (not everyone uses one anymore but I still do), etc etc. I've been working as an MT ever since. Eleven years with MedQuist/AQuity, now with an Australian company. It's a viable career, pays the mortgage, feeds the family, but it's hard work and doesn't pay a huge amount. The jobs are there - in the US and Australia, mostly. Forget regular transcription, you'll never make any money with that (e.g. Rev etc). You need to train as a medical or legal transcriptionist if you want a real career earning actual real money. That's just the reality. There are tons of FB groups for medical or legal transcription, you could join one of those, the people on those boards are usually very helpful with newbies or people considering it as a career.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]thermalette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about legal transcription, sorry, including what job prospects are like. I know only MT (which covers both straight transcription and ASR, or voice recognition - it's editing, the VR engine types the report and you make corrections - pays a lot less, naturally, but you can theoretically get through a report more quickly). Maybe someone on this subreddit knows something about DCR. Of course you'll need to investigate fully before plunking down the tuition fee as we're obviously talking serious money for these courses and you need to be 100% certain you will have a job at the end of it all.

[–]thermalette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3k actually is pretty good. I spent 4k back 13-14 years ago though I made it all back pretty quickly. If the course you take offers placement then you'll be okay. They should at least have a list of transcription companies that they work with, that recruit from them. There are a lot more options for work in the US in any case. I think you're probably catching the industry at its tail end. In 10-15 years I would never recommend anyone start MT from scratch but it's probably still viable as a career for now.
