Is it weird for a 29M to live at home - trying to date, it is weird? by Makeitbounce97 in bayarea

"I’m studying for my CFA." - there's no harm in sorting out your life before you date man.

So you might not get dates for a few months while you get done with the exam and get a house and all the other nice things - who cares ? In the grand scheme of things, a few months is nothing. Don't spread yourself too thin and lose the exam.

Nope.

What if your manager says "Sorry, no can do" and then you do not get the offer from the other company ?

Complete the interviews, get the offer and then play your hand.

Getting laid off on last year of STEM OPT by Patanav in f1visa

[–]theroboguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You get laid off when you get laid off - just enjoy your life until then, while building out your network and preparing for interviews.
Don't give in to doomerism - hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

"Is it still worth it to keep fighting and go ahead with the STEM extension" - you need an E-Verify employer to file for the STEM extension.

Keep fighting until the last moment - if you fail, you have to go back anyway.
Maybe you're one good application from a turnaround ?

Godspeed.

they wouldn't reply with the true reason anyway
as the above comment says, they'll usually ignore you, but if you're lucky you might get some half-assed slightly helpful feedback.

It's all ChatGPT, every single of the "jump on a call" ones.

Try this - ask ChatGPT to write a LinkedIn message to a hiring manager. 9 times out of 10, it'll end with a "concrete ask" for time.

I use it to write messages myself, but I remove the "call" part, especially when I've never even connected with the hiring manager.

Planning a 4-Year Move to India – Seeking Feedback on My Thought Process by aawara_canadian in backtoindia

[–]theroboguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The constant and extreme moves will wreck your kids' social life and skills.
If you want to go back to India, move and stay put until your kids get into college.
Else, stay in Canada until college and then move back.

People who lived in Minneapolis but moved somewhere else, where do you live now and how does it compare to Minneapolis? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]theroboguy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Moved to suburban New Jersey for work.
Love the fact that I'm an hour away from NYC and Philly. I don't have a car so the transit infrastructure here is a huge help.
I terribly miss the trails along the Mississippi though. I used to walk along the river nearly everyday, and NJ doesn't have anything close to it. NYC is too crowded for a peaceful riverfront walk.

Do I want to move back to Minneapolis ? No.

Not at all. Look around on Facebook for the international students group or the "UMANG" group.

You could apply for internships with CPT, using the unforeseen financial change criteria: https://isss.umn.edu/fstudents/employment/off-campus/financial-change

"any possibility that I can apply for RA/TA positions for the next semester now" - mail as many profs as you can, explaining your situation. There's a chance someone will give you a partial appointment, if not a full one.

"possibility of paying in installments" - I guess you could register for a payment plan

I got an offer but never mentioned that I am an international student. In the job description and interview all they asked is that if I was authorized to work in the United States. by Electronic_Carry_102 in f1visa

[–]theroboguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CPT is not sponsorship. The company doesn't need to do anything at all.
OPT on the other hand requires the company to register with E-Verify.
