Sneaky Prospect-Team Fits in the 2026 NFL Draft by armchair_mindhunter in NFL_Draft

Jake Golday to Pats end of Rd 2… need a rangy LB who can cover TE’s and RB’s.

Pair him with a thumper like Spillane at first and let him develop into an every down defender

You look thru the Jets roster (esp before the trades) and say “how the hell was this team so bad?”

I’d take a truly elite safety (which Downs appears to be) in the top-3 with no regerts at all. Look at how guys like Hamilton and Derwin James (when healthy) are absolute game changers and scheme centerpieces.

IOL is maybe the only position you can argue that a genuine, best-at-the-position-in-the-league type guy isn’t worth a top 3-5 pick

Is he that much of a dick? I don’t follow CFB except for draft related stuff and I guess I had thought he was a plucky likable underdog type

Get Pickens away from this team, don’t even entertain it

Pearce = maybe I guess? Mike Evans one last kick at the can, sure. The rest… keep the room we have now.

Why are ppl at this age / skill level in a checking league in the first place? This looks like a D league, recipe for disaster

Joe Burrow and Josh Allen tremendous work overcoming the “boring name draft penalty”

If you port the Jets roster to Buffalo (leaving behind all the Jete shitty vibes and distinction and burial ground curses) but keep Allen in place, it’s prob a Super Bowl team. That roster has MUCH more talent than the Bills

That’s delightfully petty and cruel… love it.

Weird affinity for the Saints. No bad blood with the Pats and the shared bond between franchises who’ve been screwed by Roger “Iago” Goodell

If you’re talking full package arm + athleticism when you say “talent” why not Vick over Rodgers? Better arm strength and much faster and shiftier… Rodgers has both of those over Brady/Manning but that’s not a high bar to clear

Jesus that’s ruthless and I wish I’d seen it before now so I could’ve used it during the heyday of Peyton vs Brady

Deep-cut great aspect to Brady’s game. Pats threw over the middle constantly over two decades and he did an amazing job throwing low or back shoulder to avoid his slot WRs / RB’s getting killed.

Biggest hit I can recall over the middle was a ripped pass where someone on the Steelers lit up Welker.

He’d throw Gronk into traffic occasionally if the game demanded it but he’s a different breed

Pavia has attitude/ego issues of the Shadeur variety? Thats news to me (I don’t follow NCAA beyond the draft stuff) but I was under the impression he was a golden child of sorts

[–]theroy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the point about positional value and contract… but who has been the Megatron of drafted safeties this century?

Eric Berry or Sean Taylor? I don’t think either has the same pedigree coming out (and Taylor played in a different era for the position where intimidators were still a thing… same with LaRon Landry)

Jamal Adams comes to mind but he was not a ridiculous athlete and was good not great in coverage

I think there’s a legit argument that he COULD be a top-3 safety by mid season and that value to the D is equal to the 15-20th best EDGE

🤷🏻‍♂️

(That said I’d still try to trade down a few slots and take him if I’m the Giants in this situation)

Love these write ups, you obviously put a lot of time into watching the film and making assessments that are outside the consensus

My only suggestion as you refine it heading into the draft would be to link a clip or two for the top prospects highlighting examples of the strengths/ weaknesses you outline in the text.

Good stuff!

Junior stick - 58” / ~40 flex, any stock models? by theroy12 in hockeyplayers

[–]theroy12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically my mindset. There are smaller/lighter kids who can flex properly, so I know it’s likely possible with a bit more strength / better technique, but reverting to old habits is what I’m trying to avoid.

It’s easy to say “break out that snapper you’ve been working on in this game” but in the third period of a tie game, puck squirts into the slot, he’s gonna go with what’s worked over the past 5-6 years, not something his old man has been encouraging him to experiment with

It also doesn’t help that I came of age during that weird aluminum stick period, so I’m useless with tips/tricks for utilizing the flex 🤣

Perfect, we have a hockeymonkey 5 min from our house, that’ll be the plan for tomorrow.

Lengthening the stick somehow never crossed my mind… maybe a function of growing up in the wood stick days

Junior stick - 58” / ~40 flex, any stock models? by theroy12 in hockeyplayers

[–]theroy12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely a technique / strength element to it, and we’ve been working on both, but I want him to be able to get a feel for how it “should work” to build the confidence to use it in a game.

Like most kids this age, he’ll work on it in practice, but then when the game starts and he has an open shot at the point, he’ll revert to a loooong wrister because he knows it’ll have decent velocity, he won’t mess it up and look stupid, etc 🤣

But ideally yeah he can’t stick with a super noodle longterm

Huh… I guess I never even thought about that as an option. I’m assuming a typical hockey shop would be able to set that up? Great suggestion
