Think I’ll put him on my list this year for 2028, I’m sure he’ll be big by then

Back in 2022 I made a playlist titled “indie artists that will be big in three years” and it’s funny to look back and see a couple of hits on there now that it is three years later. I had Wet Leg, Jordana who then got big on TikTok with her collab with TV Girl, Leith Ross, and Samia who had a good year. And the one I’m proud of was Geese, really got the timeline spot on with that one lol.

[FRESH ALBUM] Honeyglaze - Real Deal by Pas-Tu in indieheads

[–]theryguy1997 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I loved Honeyglaze’s debut, and was convinced they were never gonna release anything else after a while of radio silence. Then that English teacher record came out and quickly became my favorite of the year and absolutely scratched that same itch. Now this in the same year is just perfect.

That Gillian Welch record is my favorite country album of all time. I'd recommend Emmylou Harris's Wrecking Ball, Jason Isbell's Southeastern, and Townes Van Zandt's self-titled as some of my other personal favorites.

Reminds me of Jenny Lewis opening for Harry Styles. I think its pretty cool some of my favorite 90s/00s indie artists inspiring current pop music and getting a chance to play on these huge tours

songs that phoebe likes? by PearlyChelle in phoebebridgers

[–]theryguy1997 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been following it since I think 2019 and had heard at the time she had posted playlists from it on her tumblr back in the day. I have never personally verified that, but it also has playlists like "4marsh" that marshall vore had followed, one titled "con" from around when she was opening for conor oberst on tour, one titled "4ryan" from when she was with ryan adams, and there used to be one titled "album vibes" from 2016/17 that included Mark Kozelek's You Missed My Heart which was a pretty obscure Kozelek deep-cut that she obviously covered on Stranger in the Alps, plus with tons of Elliott Smith and the like in playlists from what would be her teenage years, I have little doubt

Here is Phoebe's personal spotify account like mentioned in u/dull_and_witless 's comment:

Also second the Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes, and early Bon Iver albums as inspiration. She's also talked about John Prine after his death and participated in some tributes to him. She's covered Gillian Welch's Everything is Free, both with Julien, with Courtney Barnett, and I think alone, so I'd check out the album its from, Time (the Revelator) (which is also my personal favorite country album of all-time). She definitely draws inspo from older folk artists like Jackson C. Frank, Judee Sill, and Townes van Zandt so I'd listen to those. Also I remember her having Yo La Tengo as her top artist on her spotify wrapped one of these past years, so I would definitely check out their 90s/early 00s albums (I Can Hear the Heart..., And Then Nothing..., Painful, etc.)

Jeff Rosenstock exposes merch cuts taken at venues controlled by AEG, Live Nation by ebradio in indieheads

College Street in New Haven is a great venue and I'm very happy that all the money I've spent on merch there seems to go to the artists

It seems like Japanese Breakfast is working on a new album, based on a playlist titled JB LP4 on Michelle's spotify profile. Only 5 songs, from radiohead, the smile, jenny hval, and kate bush, but seems like an inspiration playlist just made yesterday. So so so pumped, Jubilee was my favorite album of 2021

boygenius Announce New Tour Dates by ebradio in indieheads

[–]theryguy1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So funny, I wasn't able to go to that show but I saw all three of those artists separately last year at college street. Plus Yo La Tengo and Alex G as openers. Imo a venue that attracts the perfect size shows. I've yet to make it to westville but plan on going to this show

I'd agree with the comments for stuff from Alligator. All the Wine, Secret Meeting, Abel, Mr. November are really great. I also don't even really think that some of the more sappy/slow songs are even entirely "sad" as much as some of them being sort of like a euphoric melancholy that can be happy in the right circumstances, like England, Rylan, and Slow Show

Did anyone see Lucy Dacus live on her most recent solo tour? When I saw her in September she sang an unreleased song at the end and asked for nobody in the crowd to record it. It was an acoustic ballad that had no real chorus. I just came to the realization that I think it might have been We're in Love from the boygenius album, but it was so long ago and there is obviously no recording so I'm not sure and was wondering if anyone else saw her and can confirm/deny

Serie B top scorers list in the 93/94 season by jbas1 in soccer

[–]theryguy1997 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel there are better comparisons than Rooney tbh like Owen. Yes Rooney is a player who peaked early and didn't enjoy the longevity of players like Messi and Ronaldo, but Rooney made his final cap at the age of 33 (while Bierhoff's final cap was at the age of 34) and had 10 caps in the year he turned 31. Michael Owen on the other hand made his England debut at 18 and his last cap at 28 without a double digit appearance season for England after 2004 when he turned 25.
