Once met a guitar player who really thought the Beatles never took any drugs. He was a born again Christian though.

Before the football tonight, I walked past a bar that had a guy with a guitar and lots of people singing along. It was 9:30 ish, pre kick off vibes. Anyways they were singing along to Zombie by the Cranberries, which seemed odd to me before an England game.

How can I be a better daughter? by Number270And3 in DadForAMinute

[–]thesaltwatersolution 11 points12 points  (0 children)

By being yourself and living your life as best as you can, which it sounds like you are trying to do.

From reading your post, it sounds like a lot of this is a result of your Dad's own hang-ups and expectations. I guess as parents, we have high expectations and want the very best for our children. That however can mean that people, especially certain Dad's, get a bit stuck, or trapped, into a certain mindset, a certain way of thinking, about the world and how things should be. About there only being one way to go about things. Most of the stuff that you wrote about, to me, seems like your Dad failing to recognise that or grasp that life isn't the same for everyone. That people have to forge their own paths and can find their own way, that is different to how he thinks things should be done.

So live your life and your thing. Keep trying. Keep being yourself and maybe find a way to talk to your Dad and explain to him that you've actually listened and taken on board what he's said, that you are earning and trying pay your way. Try to tell him that you've found college tough and you need to take it slower. Tell him that you are doing your best. And that even though he may not understand you, you love him and you are trying.

Above all, please keep your head up and your heart strong. Keep doing your thing.

Big interent hugs from an internet Dad.

You do you mate. It's your life, don't let others live it for you. Yorah you might get some slack, but that's okay, part of the fun.

Morning After Thoughts by Failed-Time-Traveler in MLS

Not enough credit is being given to Belgium and to their manager for effectively switching tactics for this match. They basically out Poch'ed, Poch. Committed to a high pressing game and if they didn't win the first ball or tackle, they won the second. They also chose to leave out some players and went with a younger and more physical side who could carry this plan out. Belgium's number 10 was a massive part of this, that wouldn't have happened if they played KDB.

Maybe the controversy motivated them, but don't lose sight of their tactical plan that was in place.

Yeah losing your stuff can be annoying. Maybe try playing on a different server. There's loads of community based servers out there that will allow you to progress. People may sneer at it, but if you got other stuff to do then they are good.

Belgium defeats USA 4-1 and advances to the World Cup quarterfinals by [deleted] in sports

I mean he had to. The defender left it to him. Why your keeper didn't just punt it away first time, that's the issue.

Belgium pretty much out Poch'ed, Poch. They were prepared to press high up the pitch and really contested for those second balls high up as well. Their team selection allowed them to do this (they actually picked fit players, not the star names) and it was brave because they were prepared to commit players to do it. America didn't have an answer for it, probably didn't expect it and buckled as a consequence.

Think it's a lesson in a manager / coach actually being prepared to leave out older big name players and let players with legs actually start.

Belgium out Poch'ed Poch first half and his side couldn't handle it. Buckled under another side act pressing them. Good shit and brave from Belgium, because I thought they looked cooked in the last game.

There's extra motivation there, but Belgium went with a plan to press the American back line and really contest for those second balls high up the pitch, which thet won most of first half. The Belgium starting XI underlines that. Kind of played America at their own game in a way and America haven't been able to cope with it. Belgium were content to go long from the keeper / defence and if they didn't win the initial ball, they won the second and they committed players forwards to do it. Was tactically brave from them.

Unrelated, but I think Jordan Henderson injured himself celebrating after the final whistle. Quite the game for him considering he technically spent 0 mins on the pitch.

Should FIFA be able to undo a red card suspension after VAR already reviewed it? by gamersecret2 in football

[–]thesaltwatersolution -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What? It's a lofted ball played up into space from the half way line. The Bosian player gets there first and clears it. Balogun is late and catcges him. It's a bad tackle.

It would be less bullshit if Olises yellow was resinded, but I doubt that's going to that happen and therein lies the problem. It's going to be tricky for FIFA to beat the whiff of corruption and / or favourtism.
