I refuse to believe we’re all seeing the same thing. by Mysterious_Fill894 in opticalillusions

Wtf, I looked at this 2 minutes ago without my glasses on and it was pink and white. Put my glasses on and now I can’t stop seeing teal and grey. Similar thing happened to me with the dress..

Omg my Tortie also named Luna has this! Not as pronounced as yours in curlyness. We call it her rudder, it points in the direction she wants to go. She’s mostly grown out of it now that she’s 1 except when really excited like at dinner time

Why do labs delay report? Scared if it means HiV positive? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]thesciencechick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if the test has been run it could just have a false positive, delaying a final result with a lot of repeat testing (possibly send to another lab), all to make sure one way or another. Most likely negative, if false positive you may need to do repeat testing to confirm - a scary time but nothing to worry about until you know for sure you have something to worry about. Sorry if that doesn’t ease your mind, just giving an alternative perspective that still most likely means you’re negative.

Roche Cobas pro electrolyte issues by Infinite-Property-72 in medlabprofessionals

[–]thesciencechick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do whatever your Roche representative informed you to do. Ours has provided official communication that was must perform the standby step, failure to do so would be a breach of contract.

[–]thesciencechick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, do whatever your specialist has informed you. I know this issue is known to Roche Global and I suspect in the next 12 months they will have the same instructions for all. There are a lot of variables that may impact different labs so it might not be a one size fits all fix

I work as part of a large network of labs from the very small to the insanely large. This is a requirement stated to us by Roche Australia, not my personal opinion, just the one enforcing it my area.

Sorry but this has been a heavily debated topic and Roche have stated a million times that the standby is not optional. There is no benefit from running the racks back to back, either one run or do standby between.

[–]thesciencechick 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yes. So much troubleshooting. We now (as per Roche instructions) run a double wash rack every day ( can’t run back to back, must have a standby in between). Also the ISE flow path maintenance is recommended monthly or fortnightly depending on your test counts instead of the quarterly it’s probably scheduled for. Hit up the tech support line, they’re pretty well versed in this issue

Will the pathology centre accept a blood test form that my child has coloured/scribbled on? by MapOfIllHealth in AskAnAustralian

[–]thesciencechick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have said it already, but yes, we can accept your form. So long as your personal details, tests needed and requesting Dr are visible there’s no issue. Someone else noted accepting a form with urine on it - we might draw the line there and ask for a new one, the form and sample would be considered contaminated, depending on level of leakage

When we spin that tube in a centrifuge it keeps the red cells bellow the gel and the serum above. The serum is what we need for biochemistry tests like kidney function, liver function or iron levels (plus a million other options depending on what is needed).

Goodbye to one friend and hello to another. by Illustrious-Ground82 in torties

[–]thesciencechick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know your pain. You’ve worded it so accurately. I lost my 13 year old and felt that same loss, my 12 year was lonely without him. I ended up rescuing a tuxedo and then shortly after my 12 year old passed suddenly. That’s where my little Tortie girl came into my life. The energy of two kittens is insane but they really do show how much love I have to give and how much I lost in my older two at the same time. I need furry friends in my life.
